An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Scuola Secondaria 1° grado "Arturo Toscanini", Capiago Intimiano, Italy and Scuola Media Massimiliano Kolbe, Vercurago, Lecco, Italy on 29 June. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 11:50 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a combination of direct and telebridge with the contact starting with IK1SLD, then proceeds to IZ2WLC and finishes back with IK1SLD . The contact should be audible over Italy. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in Italian. Scuola Secondaria 1° grado "Arturo Toscanini", Capiago Intimiano, Italy The school is located in Capiago Intimiano, a small town in the north part of Italy, 7 km far from Como. Como and the surrounding area can be clearly seen from space due to the unique shape of Lario lake (like a Y upside down). It tooks the name from "Arturo Toscanini", a famous musician and conductor lived across the end of 19th century and early 20th. There are 10 classes and the students are from 11 years old to 14. Scuola Media Massimiliano Kolbe, Vercurago, Lecco, Italy Local secondary school with students aged from 10 to 14. It's located in a building, built in 1950 by the government, originally used as a sanatorium converted into school in late 1970. Vercurago is a small town not far from Lecco, built on the shores of Garlate's lake (as it comes out of Lario lake and become Adda river). Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. Why did you decide to become an astronaut? 2. How do you recycle water? 3. How did you feel on your first day in space? 4. What are the main characteristics of the Earth seen from space? 5. What was your first impression of the ISS? 6. How the northern lights appear from space? 7. How do you treat waste? 11. Is the Sun different seen from the space? 12. How do you shave in space? 13. What do you usually do in your free time? 14. How does life in orbit influence vital functions? 15. When you'll come back to the Earth, what will be the first thing you'll do? 16. When the Earth is in the dark, which are the brightest cities? 17. Can you see pollution on the Earth from the ISS? 18. What kind of studies did you attend to become an astronaut? 19. Which was the strongest emotion you felt when you passed quickly from the Earth to space? 20. What is the human construction visible from the space station? 21. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Ruder Boskovic Technical School, Zagreb, Croatia on 26 June. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 17:32 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and 9A1A. The contact should be audible over Croatia and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Ruder Boskovic Technical School in Zagreb is a secondary school with more then a sixty year tradition. Even since it was founded in 1948, it has been one of the highest rated schools in northwestern part of Croatia,on the present county of Grad Zagreb. It was named in honour to famous Croatian 18th century mathematician, astronomer, physicist, philosopher and theologian Ruder Boskovic who was born in Dubrovnik. There are 44 classes devided in 4 grades and 4 school educational programs : IT technician, electronics technician, mechatronics technician and optician. There are approximately 1.100 students aged 15 to 19, and more then 110 professors. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. How do you get to the ISS? How long does the trip last to get there? 2. How long does the astronaut training program last? Is it difficult? 3. How long do the preparations for launching into the space last? 4. How long do space missions on the ISS last? 5. Is it difficult to operate a spacecraft like the ISS? 6. How do you get enough water and electricity supply in the ISS? 7. How do you sleep in the ISS and have you got your own beds? 8. What do you eat and what is your diet like? Is there a diet plan? 9. How do you practice personal hygiene? 10. How does your body withstand a long stay on the ISS? 11. How long does it take to orbit the Earth once? 12. How do you move the ISS when some space garbage is approaching you? 13. How often do you contact your family and in what ways? 14. What kind of medical treatment do you receive when you get sick? 15. What is the procedure in case of a solar storm? 16. How do you make outdoor repairs on the ISS? 17. What is your favorite free-time activity? 18. What do you miss most in the outer space? 19. What is the most beautiful or inspiring thing you have seen in space? 20. Would you like to be on the first human spacecraft dispatched to Mars? 21. What do you do in dangerous situations, for example when bigger meteorites approach the ISS? 22. How do you return to Earth after your mission has finished? 23. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 14:57 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between NA1SS and VK4KHZ. The contact should be audible over portions of Australia. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in Italian. The Galileo Galilei school has a good reputation for the scientific activities and the laboratory teaching offered to the students. It's a school with almost 2000 students. Most of the students try to enter Medicine or Engineering after graduation. All students study English at any level. At school there are three labs with computers, internet connection is available in any classroom. Participants will ask as many of the following questions (translated) as time allows: 1. Isn't it difficult to live in a small closed space for a long time? 2. What kind of food do you eat? 3. Is there any process for recycling water in space? If so, what is it? 4. How do you manage to keep the level of oxygen steady inside the spaceship? 5. How do you get rid of your waste? 6. Do you have any trouble in falling asleep? How do you distinguish if it's day or night? 7. Before leaving for any mission in space, you have many months of preparation. Is the reality very different from the tests you go through on Earth? 8. What do you feel when you see the Earth from the space? What's the feeling? 9. What kind of scientific research are you doing now? 10. What do you think about other planets colonization? Will it be possible or is it only fiction? 11. Can you observe unusual natural phenomena from there? 12. Science can make man feel intelligent and powerful. Do you think men are that powerful? 13. How long can you stay in space for? What is the maximum time? Is there a limit for the number of missions an astronaut can do in space? 14. When you come back to Earth from a space mission, how will you adapt to gravity? Do you need any external help? What kind of help? 15. What's the importance of space research to science and technical progress? 16. In which way have your inner thoughts been modified by this experience? Upcoming ARISS contact with Astronomy Camp, Tucson, AZ

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Astronomy Camp, Tucson, AZ on 08 June. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 19:55 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between NA1SS and VK4KHZ. The contact should be audible over portions of Australia and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Astronomy Camp is a week-long residential program held at Kitt Peak National Observatory and the Catalina Observatories near Tucson, Arizona. Several thousand teenagers from 49 states and 20 countries have attended the program since 1988, participating in an informal education program involving hands-on activities in astronomy and related subjects. The camp also operates workshops for adult leaders in Girl Scouts, USA. The ARISS contact dovetails well with the camp's projects involving radio astronomy. The students engage in experiments with electromagnetic energy, construct crystal radios, and tour the radio telescope facilities at Kitt Peak, including climbing into the antenna structure. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. Of the experiments you are working on, which is your favorite? 2. What affects do the fluctuations of sunlight have on experiments? 3. How much oxygen is used each day aboard the ISS? 4. How do your 90-minute "days" affect your "internal clock" when you return to Earth? 5. Is re-entering Earth's atmosphere scary? 6. Are you taking any precautions about collisions with space junk? 7. How long will the ISS be in orbit? 8. We predict that a hammer and feather will move together toward the back of the ISS during a reboost. Will you do that experiment for us? 9. How does zero gravity affect your analysis of samples? 10. What do you do for fun in space? 11. Can flowers grow in space? 12. How did your Ocean Engineering degree help in your becoming an astronaut? 13. How quickly can the space station be abandoned? 14. What is the most potentially beneficial experiment you are working on now? 15. Have station-wide sicknesses ever been a problem? 16. How many years of school does it take to become an astronaut? 17. Do you do anything other than exercise to combat the affects of zero gravity? 18. Have you ever seen an asteroid burn through the atmosphere from the ISS? 19. What makes learning about space so important? 20. How would a helium balloon move during a reboost?
