Call for Proposals Proposal Window February 15 – April 15, 2015 The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Program is seeking formal and informal education institutions and organizations, individually or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a crew member on board the ISS. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between January 1, 2016 and June 30, 2016. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is April 15, 2015. The Opportunity Crew members aboard the International Space Station will participate in scheduled Amateur Radio contacts. These radio contacts are approximately 10 minutes in length and allow students and educators to interact with the astronauts through a question-and-answer session. An ARISS contact is a voice-only communication opportunity via Amateur Radio between astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the space station and classrooms and communities. ARISS contacts afford education audiences the opportunity to learn firsthand from astronauts what it is like to live and work in space and to learn about space research conducted on the ISS. Students also will have an opportunity to learn about satellite communication, wireless technology, and radio science. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 15:18 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between IR0ISS and IZ7EVR. The contact should be audible over Italy and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English/Italian. Presentation Istituto Tecnico Statale Economico e Tecnologico "Elena di Savoia" - "Piero Calamandrei" The School I.I.S.S. ELENA DI SAVOIA - PIERO CALAMANDREI is a technological (his field includes the study of chemistry and environmental biotechnology, chemical and healthcare biotechnology) and economic (his field includes the study of financial administration and marketing) school. It serves the educational needs of the town and the metropolitan area because it is the only sanitary and environmental school in town. It caters for boys and girls, aged fourteen-eighteen. Located in one of the region's tourist areas, it is in the suburbs of the pleasant town of Bari, in the south-east of the APULIA region, south-east of Italy. In its Curriculum the school focuses on: sanitary, the Environment, Science activities in lab., chemistry and biochemistry, microbiology. The sanitary and environmental section of the school has an auditorium, three computer rooms, two chemical laboratories, two biological laboratories, a physics laboratory, a new biology laboratory, five multimedia boards, twenty five classrooms. At present there are five hundred students on roll and they attend classes daily, from 8.15 am to 1.00 pm. The school located in multi-district Japigia south of the city of Bari is divided into several buildings with three floors and linked together. The transmit frequency will be 145.800 MHz with a 3 minute off time between transmissions. The expected mode is PD180 producing a high quality image with a frame scan of 187 seconds. A total of 12 different photos will be sent throughout an operation period. Image transmissions for Dec. 18 should begin around 14:20 UTC and on Dec. 20, look for signals to start around 12:40 UTC. For both days, operation is expected to terminate around 21:30 UTC. Below is information on the new procedure announced 2014-10-17: Call for Proposals Proposal Window October 17 – December 15, 2014 The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Program is seeking formal and informal education institutions and organizations, individually or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a crew member on board the ISS. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between May 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is December 15, 2014. The Opportunity Crew members aboard the International Space Station will participate in scheduled Amateur Radio contacts. These radio contacts are approximately 10 minutes in length and allow students and educators to interact with the astronauts through a question-and-answer session. An ARISS contact is a voice-only communication opportunity via Amateur Radio between astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the space station and classrooms and communities. ARISS contacts afford education audiences the opportunity to learn firsthand from astronauts what it is like to live and work in space and to learn about space research conducted on the ISS.
