Please join us in listening to the ISS contact with participants at the *Bay View Elementary School, Burlington, Washington, USA* on Wednesday October 14. Aqusition of Signal (AOS) is anticipated at 19:41 UTC The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between OR4ISS and IK1SLD in Italy. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Bay View School in Burlington, Washington has been serving kindergarten through eighth grade students in the Burlington-Edison School District for 22 years. Named after the small community of Bayview, which was later incorporated by the town of Burlington, it serves mainly in-district neighborhood students. This year 562 students are enrolled. The town of Burlington is 66 miles north of Seattle, Washington. Located at the intersection of two major highways, Burlington serves as a retail and commercial hub for the region. Industry is mainly agricultural, retail, and commercial. Audio from this contact will be fed into the: EchoLink *AMSAT* (101377) IRLP Node 9010 Discovery Reflector Streaming Audio at: https://sites.google.com/site/arissaudio/ Audio on Echolink & web stream is generally transmitted around 20 minutes prior to the contact taking place so that you can hear some of the preparation that occurs. IRLP will begin just prior to the ground station call to the ISS. Please note that due to control issues on Echolink there are manual breaks approximately every 3 minutes. Connected repeaters may time out. Breaks on IRLP are manual and occur approximately after every third question. ** Contact times are approximate. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Tun Dr Ismail (1), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 09 Oct. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 08:00 UTC. It is recommended that you start listening approximately 10 minutes before this time.The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and 9M2RPN. The contact should be audible over Malaysia and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Our first ARISS contact was made in 2007 when, Malaysia's first Astronaut Shiekh Muzapher went on board ISS. We made 5 direct contacts when, some 80 school children to talked to him and asked questions. Since then it has become highly sought after yearly event which is tied up with the Prime Minister's Space Challenge Trophy. This year 2015 we would be making our 8th yearly contact. Since the schools do not have ground stations, they make use of Satellite Ground Station at National Planetarium established in 1995 under the call sign of 9M2RPN. The schools are the nurseries to produce future astronauts and space scientists. The forthcoming contact in October, 2013 provides the hands on experience and the seeding operation for tomorrow's space scientists. 1. How far you have to go to escape gravity? 2. How do astronauts train for launch, orbit and reentry? 17. How would a candle burn in space? 18. Can you blow your nose in space? 19. If you sneeze in space do you float backwards? 20. Reminder: SAREX Reflector to close 1 November

SAREX Reflector to be Closed 1 November 2015 At the request of the ARISS US Team, AMSAT-NA Vice President for Human Spaceflight Frank Bauer, KA3HDO has announced that the SAREX reflector will be closed 1 November 2015, and its functions folded into the AMSAT-BB list. Frank explained that at one time operations from the Space Shuttle and the ISS were considered as sufficiently different from other satellite operations as to need separate forums for their respective interest communities. More recently, changes in the human spaceflight operations, the new generation of satellites, and the interests of the general AMSAT community have removed the reasons for this distinction. Frank explained that "The AMSAT membership, in general, has embraced all vehicles with amateur radio on-board that are operating in space on equal ground. They enjoy the SSTV events on ISS as well as a quick QSO on AO-7". He went on to note that "This past year my team has noticed that those on AMSAT-BB have missed out on some ARISS significant events. These include school contacts in their area that were only posted on SAREX." Moving all discussions to a common list will insure that ISS announcements as well as operational information will be available in one place. What does this mean to the current subscribers? If you are subscribed to both SAREX and AMSAT-BB, there is no need to take any action. You will cease to receive new postings on the SAREX list 1 November 2015. The SAREX archives will continue to be available for historical purposes. If you are not subscribed to AMSAT-BB and wish to continue to receive human spaceflight announcements, please go to http://www.amsat.org/mailman/listinfo and subscribe to AMSAT-BB. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 16:29 UTC. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Corpus Christi Catholic School is a K - 8 Roman Catholic Elementary School, located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Students in the primary grades participate in weekly swim lessons at the local YMCA. Intermediate grades place a strong emphasis on STEM related concepts and careers. Grades four through eight have background knowledge of NASA starting with Gemini and continuing onto Mars. In 2013, three teachers were selected to be on the Reduced Gravity Flight through NASA Explorer Schools. This experience increased the entire students' awareness of space flight and experiments being conducted in microgravity on the International Space Station. Middle school students are able to expand their curriculum by traveling to major cities such as Pittsburgh, Washington DC, and Williamsburg, VA. Scores on standardized tests are above the national average. School pride runs deep with the students, faculty, staff and parents. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. Name one way you are affected by being in space. 2. Name one thing you will miss when you leave space. 3. What has been your scariest moment in space? 4. How do you tell the difference between day and night? 5. What do you do in your free time? 6. How do you take a shower in space? 7. Does food taste the same in space as it does on Earth? 8. What kind of exercise equipment do you use? 9. What are your thoughts on privately owned space companies transporting people into space? 10. Name one experiment that you are currently working on that affects humans on earth. 11. What part of your daily life in space do you like the most? 12. Do you feel being aboard the ISS has improved your knowledge and character because you have explored farther than most people and you aren't distracted by the world? 13. What is your favorite spot on Earth to look at from space? 14. Name one object from earth you wish you had in space. 15. Have you seen an asteroid or other space object pass by the ISS? 16. Do they use robots in space? 17. What made you want to be an astronaut? 18. What is your favorite food to eat in space? 19. Can you see pollution from space? 20. Have you ever experienced something on the ISS that you were not expecting? 21. What is the first thing you think of when you look out the window and see Earth? 22. Are there any lifestyles that you had to give up while living on the ISS? 23. Do you have any fears living on the space station? 24. Does your sleep and wake time get affected in space?
