As part of my zillion other duties as an ARISS mentor, I post ARISS announcements to the SAREX-BB. Oftentimes Dave AA4KN (another ARISS mentor) will post an announcement for each specific school a few days before the actual contact that has a little more information about the school itself to the AMSAT-BB and SAREX-BB. We do not have an ARISS only type of list. As part of my announcements I do indicate where one can find the complete schedule. The term, "Tuskegee Airmen," refers to the men and women, African-Americans and Caucasians, who were involved in the so-called "Tuskegee Experience", the World War II Army Air Corps program to train African Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft. ECCTAI strives to increase understanding of the "Tuskegee Experience" by honoring the accomplishments and perpetuating the history of the men and women who participated in the "Tuskegee Experience" and to introduce young people to the world of aviation and space through its Youth in Aviation Program (YIAP). YIAP motivates and inspires America's youth to strive for similar excellence of these earlier pioneers. ECCTAI YIAP has a strong long-term partnership with Oxon Hill High School (OHHS). Many Oxon Hill students have pursued aerospace careers as a result of this relationship. OHHS was established in 1925. It is now a renowned public Science and Technology High School in Prince Georges County, Maryland with an enrollment of 1,436 located approximately 1.5 miles from the Nation's Capital along the Potomac River. OHHS has developed stand-out programs in Business and Finance, Engineering and Science, Graphic Arts and Media, Hospitality and Tourism, and Military Science. The school also has a long standing and prestigious Music Department. OHHS' Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFJROTC) program was established in 1966 and remains one of the largest and oldest active units with more than 350 cadets. Within AFJROTC, Aviation Ground School introduces cadets to all aspects of aviation. OHHS hosts a Regional Center that provides services to special-needs students in the area. As a fully functioning tech school, each student is provided a NetBook for all school related academic activities. Call for Proposals Proposal Window February 15 – April 15, 2015 The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Program is seeking formal and informal education institutions and organizations, individually or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a crew member on board the ISS. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between January 1, 2016 and June 30, 2016. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is April 15, 2015. The Opportunity Crew members aboard the International Space Station will participate in scheduled Amateur Radio contacts. These radio contacts are approximately 10 minutes in length and allow students and educators to interact with the astronauts through a question-and-answer session. *ARISS NEWS RELEASE * *no. 15-10* *P1 of 1* *Thursday, April 2, 2015* *David Jordan, AA4KN* *ARISS PR* aa4kn(a)amsat.org *Russian SSTV Scheduled for Next Weekend* *In celebration of Cosmonautics Day, Russian ARISS SSTV activity is planned for the second week of April.* *Cosmonautics Day celebrates Yuri Gagarin’s famous flight on April 12, 1961 becoming the first human to reach space. * *The SSTV event is planned for Saturday, April 11, beginning at 10:00 UTC and continuing until 21:00 UTC. All transmissions will use the high resolution SSTV mode PD180. Transmissions will be at 145.800 MHz. If similar to past events,* *12 different photos will be sent through the weekend with 3 minute off periods between transmissions.* *To receive the images in real time, all that’s required is a 2 meter radio receiver and a computer to convert the receiver’s audio to image form. The next call for proposals to host an ARISS contact is coming up in February, 2015. Call for Proposals Proposal Window February 15 – April 15, 2015 The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Program is seeking formal and informal education institutions and organizations, individually or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a crew member on board the ISS. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between January 1, 2016 and June 30, 2016. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is April 15, 2015. The Opportunity Crew members aboard the International Space Station will participate in scheduled Amateur Radio contacts. These radio contacts are approximately 10 minutes in length and allow students and educators to interact with the astronauts through a question-and-answer session. An ARISS contact is a voice-only communication opportunity via Amateur Radio between astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the space station and classrooms and communities. ARISS contacts afford education audiences the opportunity to learn firsthand from astronauts what it is like to live and work in space and to learn about space research conducted on the ISS. Students also will have an opportunity to learn about satellite communication, wireless technology, and radio science. Because of the nature of human spaceflight and the complexity of scheduling activities aboard the ISS, organizations must demonstrate flexibility to accommodate changes in contact dates and times. Amateur Radio organizations around the world, NASA, and space agencies in Russia, Canada, Japan and Europe sponsor this educational opportunity by providing the equipment and operational support to enable direct communication between crew on the ISS and students around the world via Amateur Radio. In the US, the program is managed by AMSAT (Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation) and ARRL (American Radio Relay League) in partnership with NASA.
