An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at ESA Space Camp, Külsheim, Germany on 03 Aug. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 10:47 UTC. It is recommended that you start listening approximately 10 minutes before this time.The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between NA1SS and W6SRJ. The contact should be audible over the west coast of the U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The European Space Agency (ESA )Space Camp 2015 will be held in the Germany at a sport and activity centre Aktiv-Welt in Külsheim, which is situated on the beautiful landscape of Baden-Württemberg. The camp will run from Sunday 26 July to Saturday 8 August 2015. 165 children aged 8 to 17 years old will be participating in this annual space camp from every ESA establishment in Europe where their parents are working. The children will learn in the spirit of international cooperation and team work where the camp theme of " My planet, beyond Earth", will be take these young explorers on a continuing journey around our planet and beyond. The children will be participating in a range of physical and cultural activities as well as a full space education program. Apart from the science element, the children will learn how to work as part of a team, to be respectful of different cultures and embrace and appreciate the various talents each child brings to a group. Good training for any 'first contacts' that the future may bring! Learning through active participation will be paramount as with every camp - as well as having FUN! Beyond Earth - as last year, the children will continue to 'reach for the stars' with new and innovative activities involving rocket design and launches as well as making observations of the night sky using telescopes. With such an environment as in Külsheim, we hope to explore more of the sky in relatively low light pollution. The children will be expected to communicate activities in a range of ways from designing and drawing to building models. It is hoped that the spirit of fun and collaboration with such an international group of young children will enable them to learn new things as well as share information which will help each other be better acquainted with the space environment their families work in. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. What was the most difficult thing to learn during the training? 2. What do you like to do most in your spare time when you are not doing experiments? 3. What every day object are you missing on the space station? 4. Can you talk with your family in the space? 5. How is the new espresso machine at the ISS? 6. Can you tell us if there is a difference with growing things like vegetables compared to on Earth? 7. Does the weightless situation impact your body in terms of 'size', circumference and length? 8. What inspiration do you get from the view of planet Earth from space? 9. What smell does your shower gel have and does it work? 10. What is the most important difference between life on ISS and life on Earth? 11. Is there a difference between night and day like on earth? 12. How do astronauts sleep in space? 13. What do you do in your free time? 14. Do astronauts play football in Space? 15. What are the differences between your expectations of space travel and the reality of space travel? 16. Do you use robotic tools at the space station? 17. What happens if someone gets sick on the ISS? 18. Do you miss any food from your home country? 19. Do you have internet and Wi-Fi access on the ISS? 20. Can you get fresh bread on the ISS? 21. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at 23rd World Scout Jamboree Nippon Boy Scout Amateur Radio Club, Bunkyo-ku, Japan on 31 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 11:26UTC. It is recommended that you start listening approximately 10 minutes before this time.The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between NA1SS and 8N23WSJ. The contact should be audible over Japan and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The theme of the 23rd World Scout Jamboree (23WSJ) is “Wa: a Spirit of Unity”. The Kanji character indicates awide variety of meanings such as unity, harmony, cooperation, friendship, and peace. Moreover, it encapsulates the essence of Japan, a country where tradition and the latest technology coexist in harmony. There will be various walk-in activities that Scouts can enjoy during their free time. Such activities will include an amateur radio workshop (Callsign is 8N23WSJ).　 Age of scouts who will talk with an astronaut is 14 – 17. The following questions will be asked by the students as time permits: 1. In the journey from earth to the ISS, when was the most stressful time? 2. How do you taking a bath and shampoo your hair? 3. How do you count the time you start to work each day in the space and do you have a holiday up there? 4. Have you been a scout? If yes, what activity do you like the most? 5. How do you feel when you look back to the earth? 6. Which planet you would like to visit the most? 7. How do you get fresh fruits? 8. Have any astronauts got sick in space? If yes, what was the sickness and what do they do? 9. After the mission was over, did you want to come back to space again? 10. Why do you want to be an astronaut? 11. Are you doing anything because you do not forget the sense at a day of the week and the date? 12. What trouble does you to eat the space food with micro gravity? 13. How do you shampoo your hair? 14. Please advice if the scout hams would like to make contact with ISS station. 15. How do you drink the water? 16. Have any astronauts got sick in space? Upcoming ARISS contact with United Space School, Seabrook, TX

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at United Space School, Seabrook, TX on 28 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 12:52 UTC. It is recommended that you start listening approximately 10 minutes before this time.The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between NA1SS and W6SRJ. The contact should be audible over the west coast of the U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The United Space School is the premier educational program hosted by the Foundation for International Space Education (FISE). For two weeks each summer, FISE invites approximately 50 students from 23 different countries to the Clear Lake, Texas area to introduce them to aspects of working in the space sciences. During their stay, the students work together in teams to assemble a manned mission to Mars, utilizing knowledge gained from guest lecturers and interactive field trips. The Foundation for International Space Education Board of Directors has two head teachers and five team mentors to assist the students in their day-to-day activities. United Space School culminates in a project presentation, in which the students present their final project to a panel of industry experts and the public. Upon successful completion of their final project presentation, the students are awarded a graduation certificate. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. How has your understanding of the universe changed now that you are seeing it from space? 2. What do you think about the plans of some multi-billion dollar investors to mine raw materials on asteroids and satellites? 3. If you were in an emergency situation inside the ISS where an ammonia leak is quite high and the hatches don't work, what would you propose as escape route to save you and your team, and why? 4. What is the most interesting experiment to perform, and why? 5. Do you see the speed of space travel progressing much further than the point it's at now (within our own solar system)? 6. When you return to Earth what do you think you will miss most about the Space Station? 7. What are your expectations of the manned trip to Mars? 8. Isn't the NanoRacks deployer a cool temperature when it's actually working? 9. How do you maintain a natural sleep pattern aboard the ISS? 10. What were the steps you took to become an astronaut? Do you have any advice for those of us who wish to go into space? 11. What do you think the biggest challenge to the space industry today, besides budget? 12. In terms of hardware, if you could have one thing installed on the ISS, what would it be? 13. What went through your mind while listening to the final countdown before lift-off? 14. How does the ISS keep away from space junk? 15. What are the first effects that you feel in zero gravity? 16. What was a favorite experience of yours while in space school? 17. How many meals do you eat in a day, and has your appetite changed at all? 18. Is moving around in microgravity conditions always fun, or does it get uncomfortable and annoying? 19. ARISS Apollo-Soyuz Commemorative Diploma

All, The ARISS commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the joint Apollo-Soyuz mission is going quite well. Some absolutely beautiful pictures have been posted on the ARISS SSTV image gallery. Also, fantastic efforts on ISS and in Dallas Texas yesterday for the Moon Day/Frontiers of Flight Museum contact. It was fitting to have a US school and the Russian Cosmonauts conducting a joint ARISS contact on the 40th anniversary of the of the Apollo-Soyuz docking. In commemoration of the Apollo Soyuz SSTV event, ARISS will be distributing a limited edition diploma to all that received the SSTV images. If you want to get a commemorative diploma e-mailed to you, we are cordially invite you to listen on 145.800 MHz FM, decode the audio and share your received images with us. Ballots have been mailed to AMSAT-NA members in good standing, and must be received at the AMSAT-NA office by 15 SEP 2015 in order to be counted. Those sent outside North America were sent by air mail. If you have not received your ballot package in a reasonable time for your QTH, please contact the AMSAT-NA office. Your completed ballot should be returned as promptly as possible, and those from outside North American preferably by air mail or other expedited means. Acquisition of signal is anticipated at approximately 0840 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between RS0ISS and W6SRJ in California. The contact should be audible over the west coast of the U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Moon Day/Frontiers of Flight Museum, Dallas, TX on 18 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 16:55 UTC. It is recommended that you start listening approximately 10 minutes before this time.The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between RSØISS/OR4ISS and W6SRJ. The contact should be audible over the western U.S.and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Moon Day, the largest annual celebration of space exploration in the state of Texas, is presented jointly by the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas and the National Space Society of North Texas. This STEM-focused event features three dozen exhibitors with widely varied displays and activities ranging from Van de Graaff generators to portable planetariums. The first 200 younger visitors receive "Lunar Sample Bags" of space-related magazines, posters, brochures, and other items of lasting interest. Moon Day is held every year on the Saturday closest to the anniversary of the first human footsteps on our Moon, and for 2015 the event is scheduled for July 18. While honoring previous accomplishments, Moon Day focuses on current and future activities in space exploration. This year's event, with an anticipated audience of 2,000 visitors, will highlight the International Space Station. Programs and classes for all ages include model rocket building and launching for younger visitors as well as serious academic presentations for mature audiences. Many of the activities correlate to requirements for Boy Scout and Girl Scout badges. This year's programs include presentations from ISS visitor Anousheh Ansari (the first private female space traveler), Dr. James Carter (the creator of simulated Moon soil for NASA), and author and former NASA mission controller Marianne Dyson. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. How do you get internet? 2. How is your perspective of Earth different from ours who have not been to space? 3. What has been your most exciting and memorable experience during your time on the International space station? 4. As you don't have gravity in the Space Station, and nothing drops or drips down, what happens to a scoop of ice cream in space when it melts? Once it has melted, can you suck it up with a straw? Have you ever tried that? 5. What happens to fire in space? 6. What do you eat when in space? 7. What happens if an astronaut gets sick in space? Do they have a doctor on board? If not, do they have to go back to Earth early for treatment? 8. Has your time on the space station helped in the research of finding a way to send someone to Mars for a longer period of time? 9. If a meteorite, space junk, or another spacecraft collides with the ISS, or there was a fire on board, what kind of emergency procedures would be performed to ensure station integrity and crew safety? 10. What has been your biggest unexpected obstacle, and how did you solve it and still reach your goal? 11. How do you put on your spacesuit to go out in space? 12. Thank you Patrick, I did not know Arizona didn't follow DST. I often have a hard time with these calculations and that is why I put "I believe," to be corrected if I was wrong. Tips for posting time-sensitive messages

Hi, People sometimes post time-sensitive messages to AMSAT-BB and SAREX. Examples are last minute grid activations, unexpected satellite mode commands, requests for critical telemetry after a launch, etc. These normally go through promptly, but occasionally get held for two primary reasons: While AMSAT-BB and SAREX are both open lists, that means they are open for membership. In order to post to the list, it normally must be from the same account you originally registered. For instance, if you registered from your home account, and post from your office account, it will normally be held for release by a moderator. Likewise, some people have all their email forwarded to a single account from which they reply. We can easily create a filter to pass the second address, but that is not automatically done on the first posting, and does require moderator action. Both mailing lists receive literally dozens of pieces of spam for each legitimate message. As part of the filtering process, emails larger than 40-50kB are blocked. This usually happens to legitimate email when someone attempts to attach a large file, or replies to a long message without trimming. These also require moderator intervention, and are normally not approved but bounced back to the originator for adjustment. Also, there is a limit to the number of addresses before an email is held as potential spam. I have seen legitimate email sent to 20+ addresses. We have a team of volunteer moderators, but they are not available 24/7. The result is that a message sent in the evening or on a holiday, US time, may well be held for 10-12 hours before being released. So, if it absolutely, positively needs to be distributed promptly: 1. Post from the same account you registered for, or one which from past experience you know has been flagged as acceptable. 2. Post a message less than 40 kB, with no attachments which will always be stopped. (Pictures should be included by a link.) 3. Send it to AMSAT-BB, SAREX, and a few other addresses a most. If you must send to a large distribution list, send to them, and another copy to the AMSAT lists. 4. Consider also posting to the AMSAT Twitter and Facebook accounts. There is overlap in membership, though at present it is far from 100%. 73s, Alan WA4SCA

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Pima County 4H/Vail Vaquero's 4H Club Tucson, AZ on 15 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 18:01 UTC. It is recommended that you start listening approximately 10 minutes before this time. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between RSØISS/OR4ISS and W7LB. The contact should be audible over portions of the western U.S. and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The Vail Vaquero's 4H Club is a local 4H Club in Pima County, Arizona. Pima County 4-H is just one out of over 3,000 county 4H Clubs nationwide that work with youth, aged 5 to 18, preparing them to make a positive impact in their communities and their world. The STEM based programs offered provide leadership that engages the youth to impact their communities. 4-H reaches every corner of our nation - from urban neighborhoods to suburban school yards even to rural farming communities. 4-H has a network of more than 6 million youth, 540,000 volunteers, 3,500 professionals and more than 60 million alumni! 4-H has helped to shape our youth to move this great country forward in ways that no other youth program can with programs designed to shape future leaders and innovators. 4-H'ers engage in hands on learning activities in areas of science, citizenship and healthy living. ARISS Contact Saturday

Please join us in listening to the ISS contact with participants for *Moon Day at the Frontiers of Flight Museum, Dallas, TX on* Saturday July 18th. Acquisition of Signal (AOS) is anticipated at 16:55 UTC The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between RS0ISS/OR4ISS and W6SRJ in Santa Rosa, California. The contact should be audible over the west coast of the U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Moon Day, the largest annual celebration of space exploration in the state of Texas, is presented jointly by the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas and the National Space Society of North Texas. This STEM-focused event features three dozen exhibitors with widely varied displays and activities ranging from Van de Graaff generators to portable planetariums. The first 200 younger visitors receive “Lunar Sample Bags” of space-related magazines, posters, brochures, and other items of lasting interest. Moon Day is held every year on the Saturday closest to the anniversary of the first human footsteps on our Moon, and for 2015 the event is scheduled for July 18. While honoring previous accomplishments, Moon Day focuses on current and future activities in space exploration. This year’s event, with an anticipated audience of 2,000 visitors, will highlight the International Space Station. Programs and classes for all ages include model rocket building and launching for younger visitors as well as serious academic presentations for mature audiences. Many of the activities correlate to requirements for Boy Scout and Girl Scout badges. This year’s programs include presentations from ISS visitor Anousheh Ansari (the first private female space traveler), Dr. James Carter (the creator of simulated Moon soil for NASA), and author and former NASA mission controller Marianne Dyson. IRLP will begin just prior to the ground station call to the ISS. Please note that on Echolink there are automatic breaks of 1.5 seconds in the audio transmission. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Kopernik Observatory & Science Center, Vestal, NY on 10 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 16:05 UTC. It is recommended that you start listening approximately 10 minutes before this time.The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between RSØISS/OR4ISS and K2ZRO. The contact should be audible over portions of the eastern U.S. and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. In case of a technical problem, the backup downlink for this contact will be 145.55 MHz. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The Kopernik Observatory & Science Center is a non-profit informal educational institution that promotes interdisciplinary education in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Through its classes, events and programs, Kopernik's multigenerational approach emphasizes experiential, engaged and active learning as a model of STEM education in our region. Founded in 1973, Kopernik has offered hundred of thousands of students of all ages the opportunity to learn about their world and the universe surrounding them. Kopernik's resources include three permanent telescopes, a heliostat, weather station, three classrooms, computer lab, and amateur radio station. It also offers a robust outreach program in which its educators bring programs directly into the classroom. Kopernik has had two previous ARISS contacts (2010 and 2013). Kopernik has offered middle and high school students attending its summer engineering camps the opportunity to participate in the 2015 ARISS contact and learn about life on the ISS. In preparation for the contact, the camp curriculum will include satellite orbits, satellite tracking, and radio communications. Students will ask the cosmonaut a wide range of questions about life on the ISS and space exploration. 1. How does the space station deal with the threats of that "junk" or steer clear of any natural pieces of space debris - like a meteor or bits and pieces of comets? 2. Do you have any animals aboard the space station? 3. How long can an astronaut stay in space? 4. What kinds of food do you eat and do you gain weight or lose weight? 5. Do you actually have a defined Day and Night, as we do on Earth and do you sleep 8 hours a day? 6. How do the astronauts keep in touch with their families while they are away so long? 7. Does being in space change your view towards earth? 8. What do you like to do for fun in space? 9. Have you gone on a space walk and what did you do? 10. If someone gets sick or needs emergency surgery on board the space station, is there a doctor that can treat them? 11. Is the space station's orbital constant or does it need to be periodically boosted back into its proper orbit? If so, how is that done? 12. How do you sleep in zero gravity? 13. How is plant grown affected by microgravity? 14. Is it scary to fly in space? 15. Are you able to see pollution from the Space Station? 16. What is a normal day like on the Space Station?
