Retransmission of ISS packets

In preparation for ISS coming back up on 145.880 in packet mode, I would like to relay all packets received to my 440 repeater output to increase local interest in ISS activities. I must admit I am over my head in setup and connection of the TNC. I have a 10 year old TNC-3 (not Plus) with version 6.0 software on it. While it has served me well with ISS UNPROTO, I would now like to have it work at the repeater site, receive on 145.800 and feed into the cor/ audio chain of the 440 transmitter...sounds simple... Not to me! TNC-3 is no longer supported by Kantronics, All setups that look appropriate utilize version 8.13 using UI*** commands not acceptable by ver. 6.0, and UIView has come on the scene along with the move toward WIDEn-N. My brain is fried trying to figure this out. Is there an Elmer out there that could help me work through this? I must be missing something. As 145.800 is a "clear channel" I could repeat all and just use a COR but that seems messy for packet along with the potential for missing the early portion of the opening packet. Please reply directly...and help me un-fudge my brain... Thanks! Roger WA1KAT

NASA to Rotate Station Astronauts on Next Shuttle Mission

After several months working aboard the International Space Station, NASA astronaut Suni Williams will come back to Earth aboard the space shuttle Atlantis, targeted for launch June 8. That shuttle mission, STS-117, will carry her successor, astronaut Clay Anderson, to the station to begin his duty as an Expedition 15 flight engineer. The exchange of Anderson and Williams was originally planned for the STS-118 mission, now targeted for launch in August. However, that flight, first set to fly in June, had to be postponed after an unexpected hail storm damaged Atlantis' external fuel tank and delayed STS-117. NASA managers approved the crew rotation Thursday morning after a more detailed review determined there would be no impact on space station operations or future shuttle mission objectives. Since an earlier crew rotation was possible, NASA managers decided it would be prudent to return Williams and deliver Anderson sooner rather than later. With the new plan, Williams' mission on the station will be approximately the same length as originally anticipated. Williams, a Massachusetts native, launched to the station Dec. 9, 2006, aboard the space shuttle Discovery as part of the STS-116 mission. During her stay, she set a record for spacewalks by a female astronaut by conducting four excursions for a total of 29 hours and 17 minutes. Upon Williams' return, she will have accumulated more time in space than any other woman. Anderson, a Nebraska native, makes his first spaceflight when he joins Expedition 15. An International Space Station Expedition 15 ARISS school contact has been planned with students at Samuel-von-Pufendorf Gymnasium, Floeha, Germany on 28 April. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 14:19 UTC. The contact will be a direct between stations NA1SS and DL0GYM. The contact should be audible in most of Europe. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The participants are expected to conduct the conversation in English. Samuel-von-Pufendorf Gymnasium leads the pupils to the Abitur in a 8 year course beginning with grade 5. More than 600 young people in all grades are taught by 65 teachers. The school amateur radio club DL0GYM was founded in 2003. The main purpose is to prepare pupils to pass the amateur radio examination and become licensees. The club station supports education by demonstrating the possibilities of modern amateur radio technologies like packet radio, satellite communication via the "OSCARs", ATV, SSTV and so on. The club cooperates with the German Amateur Radio Club "DARC e.V." and the "Arbeitskreis Amateurfunk in der Schule - AATiS e.V." Students will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. Can you watch an eruption of a volcano from your station? 2. Is it possible to you to watch TV programmes by using satellites? 3. Can you receive terrestrial radio programmes in the orbit? 4. Could you watch sport events by television? 5. How does a higher sun activity influence your space station? 6. Can you see Northern Lights from the orbit? 7. Can you see the lightning of a thunderstorm? 8. Can you notice any influences of the atmosphere on the ISS? 9. Does the weather on earth influence your work on the station? 10. Can you notice the melting of our poles? 11. Do you see the ozone layer? 12. Can you surf in the Internet or send E-mails? 13. How can you avoid damages by space debris? 14. Is the ISS hit by cosmic particles? 15. Can you see other satellites? 16. Can you work on the space station with soldering irons? 17. Do you need to clean the windows of the ISS? 18. How can you communicate with your family members? 19. In which language do you talk together? 20. Do you have your personal free time maybe to read a book?
