An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Valley Manor School, Martensville, SK, Canada on 11 Mar. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 19:23 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between NA1SS and VE5RAC. The contact should be audible over portions of Canada. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Valley Manor School is an Elementary school located in Martensville, Saskatchewan. This Pre k to Grade 8 School has a population of 611 students and over 50 professional and para-professional staff members. The school offers a wide variety of both academic subjects and extra-curricular opportunities. A great emphasis is placed on the schools Code of Conduct which includes the key characteristics of Respect, Responsibility, Caring Attitude and Sharing. Students are given a great deal of responsibility for their own learning and the direction it takes. Teachers support this learning by teaching various strategies that enhance personal growth and satisfaction. The City of Martensville has a population close to 8000 residents. It is located 10 minutes north of Saskatoon and has one of the fastest growing populations in Canada! There is considerable growth both in the residential and commercial areas. Recently a new pool has been built and within the upcoming years an addition to the high school will see its population double. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. What can and can't you take into space? 2. What personal items, other than your camera and guitar, did you take on this mission? 3. Your pictures are amazing. How powerful is your camera's zoom lens? 4. Does the microgravity in the ISS change your voice? 5. How can you actually digest food if there's only microgravity in space? What happens to the acids in your stomach? 6. What happens if you get sick in space? 7. Last year you told our school you wanted to go to Mars. Will you be signing up with Mars One to travel to Mars in 2023? 8. How does it feel being with the same people for 3 to 6 months? 9. How fast can you move inside the ISS? Can you run/float fast or do you move slowly? 10. What's it like to control Canadarm2? 11. We are sampling some "space jerky" from a Saskatchewan company. What is the most disgusting food you've eaten in space? 12. We watched your launch, but what does it feel like while going up into space? 13. Did you get to move around in the Soyuz during your trip to the ISS - it looked pretty cramped! 14. Please join us in listening to the ISS contact with participants at the Mt. Ousley Public School, Fairy Meadow, NSW, Australia on Tuesday March 13th. AOS scheduled to begin at approximately 07:35 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between OR4ISS and IK1SLD in Italy. The contact should be audible over portions of Europe. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Mt Ousley (ooze-ly) Public School is a government school in coastal Wollongong, New South Wales about 100km south of Sydney. We have 185 students aged 5-12yrs and have 12 teachers. We enjoy learning experiences that connect us with the world and use technology to help us communicate and follow the crew on Facebook and Twitter. Audio from this contact will be fed into the: EchoLink *AMSAT* (101377) and *JK1ZRW* (277208) servers IRLP Node 9010 Discovery Reflector Audio on Echolink is generally transmitted around 20 minutes prior to the contact taking place so that you can hear some of the preparation that occurs. IRLP will begin just prior to the ground station call to the ISS. Please note that on Echolink there are automatic breaks of 1.5 seconds in the audio transmission. These occur every 2.5 minutes during the event. Breaks on IRLP are manual and occur approximately after every third question. ** Contact times are approximate. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Lycée Polyvalent Anatole France, Cedex, France on 09 March. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 11:42 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and F4KIS. The contact should be audible over France and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Anatole France is a French high school located in Lillers, a small town in the center of the Pas-de-Calais department. There are about 850 students aged between 15 and 20 years old. The science teachers and the local amateur radio club F6KIS, which became in 2010 the "Artois Lys Radio Club", have developed a partnership since 2007 collaborating on projects to send sounding balloons into the stratosphere. This year, they are working with a group of students to contact the ISS. The students are preparing the TPE project for their final exam. They need to define the subject of their research, find information about it and run experiments over a period of six months in order to give an oral presentation of their work in front of a jury. Ten students have chosen to join the ARISS project for their TPE and are divided into three groups working on: - Recycling in space. - Travelling to space and back: taking off, putting a shuttle into orbit and landing it. - The effects of weightlessness on the human body Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. Have you ever been space sick? 2. Do you sort your rubbish? If you do, what do you recycle? 3. What do you feel when the shuttle is launched? 4. Do you have the same notion of time as on Earth? 5. How do you get supplies? 6. What is required to be part of the ISS crew? 7. Is it easier to move from zero gravity state to gravity state or vice versa? 8. What system do you use to recycle water? 9. Do you have free time and how do you spend it? 10. What is the best time to exercise? 11. On average, how long do you stay aboard the ISS? 12. How long is it safe to stay in space? 13. Do you get tired faster than on Earth? 14. Why did you want to be an astronaut? 15. How long did you study to become an astronaut? 16. How many hours a day do you sleep? 17. What experiments are you currently working on in the station? 18. How do you treat your wounds? 19. How often do you communicate with planet Earth? 20. How does the space shuttle dock the ISS? An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Stonepark Intermediate School, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada on 07 Mar. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 16:26 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between NA1SS and VY2PEI. The contact should be audible over eastern Canada and the U.S. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. Grade 9 students at Stonepark Intermediate, Charlottetown, PEI have been involved in preparing for their contact with the International Space Station through a number of in class activities , research and guest speakers. In the past three months they researched life on the ISS and watched YouTube segments of various facets of the ISS. Any news stories featuring Chris Hadfield and the ISS were read and discussed. The students attended sessions by a local university professor of engineering who worked for NASA and local amateur radio operators. Both sessions gave students insight into the workings ISS, NASA and the ham radio. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. What does zero gravity feel like and does it affect your thinking? 2. Is earth at night as beautiful as we see in the pictures? 3. When your eyes water in space what happens to the tears? 4. What is your favorite thing to do in space that you could not do on Earth? 5. What type of qualifications do you need to be commander of the space station? 6. What is the strangest thing you've ever seen in space? 7. What types of routine activities do you do on a daily basis? 8. What concern you the most about living in space? 9. Who or what inspired you to become and astronaut? 10. What's something that on earth that is just regular everyday stuff, but in space is really cool and fun to do? 11. Why did NASA cancel the shuttle Program? 12. Would you ever want your family to live in space with you? 13. What is the most difficult adjustment that you have had to make while in space? 14. What was the hardest part of your training? 15. What does your body feel like when you are in space? 16. What is your favorite view from the space station? 17. What prompted your interest in space? 18. What is the first thing you will eat when you get back to earth? 19. Have you ever played any kind of sport in zero gravity? 20.
