All, Roscosmos has announced the ISS will be reboosted 3.7 km tomorrow. Since the orbital period changes _roughly_ 1.2 seconds for each 1 km of altitude, we should see almost 5 seconds of change. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Luitpold-Gymnasium Muenchen, Munich, Bavaria, D-80538, Germany on 17 March. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 14:06 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and DN2MQT. The contact should be audible over portions of Europe and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The Luitpold-Gymnasium is a secondary school in Munich located near by the "Englischer Garten". It was established in 1891. Famous alumni include the biochemist and Nobel Laureate Feodor Lynen, and journalist and recipient of the Buber-Rosenzweig-Medal Schalom ben Chorin. Educational activities: A special course "space flight" started in September 2009. 15 highly motivated students aged about 17 are learning about various aspects of aeronautics and are being introduced into the basics of scientific work. The planning of the scheduled radio contact was initially a collective project for this course. In September 2010 a project group consisting of students from different lower grades formed to assist their preparations. In two talks, members of the German amateur radio organization (DARC) gave a comprehensive introduction to amateur radio on the ISS. Many elements of the examination for the highest German amateur radio license ("Technische Kenntnisse" zu den Amateurfunkzeugnissen der Klasse A) are closely related to the physics curriculum and have been addressed in the respective grades. We are working with the ESA ISS Education Kit, e. g. with ESA Science (Newton in Space) Videos. In August 2010 three students presented the project at the Global Hands-On Universe Conference in Garching. A periodic newsletter called "Countdown" has been issued, with issue numbers counting backward, of course (starting with "T minus 10 months (and counting)". In this newsletter for pupils of all grades the proceedings of the project have been reported. In addition there have been news from the ISS, the members of the current crew, instructions to see the ISS, little contests, a glossary on amateur radio and so on. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. In the space station, do you dream of Earth or Space? 2. What will be the first things you'll do when you return to Earth? 3. What do you do when you get homesick? 4. Greetings to your colleagues Alexander, Oleg, and Dimitri. How do you work together? 5. What's your favourite thing to eat on the ISS? 6. Are you scared of the return flight or of everyday life on Earth? 7. Do you think that the increasing commercialization of space travel brings a positive or negative effect with it? If you could choose who could come as a tourist to the ISS during your mission, who would you choose? 8. Can you have a private life? 9. Are there ever problems due to the long time spent working with the same people and staying in such a small and tight space? 10. Is it quiet or loud in space? 11. If you were separated from the station during an EVA, what would you do? 12. What do you do when you're ill? I've heard that astronauts don't have any beds! That they just sit. 13. What do you have to learn when you learn to fly the shuttle? Do you have to do homework? 14. Is it warm or cold in the space station? And if it is warm, do you get sweaty in your spacesuit? 15. Has the ISS been hit by space debris? 16. How was the lift off for you? How did you feel? 17. Are there often arguments? 18. How often can you communicate with your family? 19. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. 1. The Scout Amateur Radio Club SP5ZBA Founded in 1968, on the air since 1970. Primary Club activities are HF digital and field operations. 2. Pawel Wlodkowic University College in Plock Almost 20 years of tradition. It is one of the oldest non-state universities in Poland. The university offers eight specializations: Administration; Computer Science; Pedagogic; Nursery; Political Science; Physical Education, Management and National Safety. Levels: BA and MA. A lot of courses at postgraduate level have been offered as well. Over 10000 students study at Pawel Wlodkowic University College every year at the main campus in Plock and two branches in Ilawa and Wyszkow. 3. Plock Scientific Society It was founded in 1820 and one of the oldest scientific societies in Poland. It is a regional and open type institution. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report March 14, 2011 1. Upcoming School Contacts Fair Lawn High School, Fair Lawn, New Jersey has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Monday, March 14 at 15:44 UTC. The contact will be integrated into the curriculum covering space and earth science as well as human anatomy and physiology. Students from five schools in Plock and Liszyno, Poland will jointly participate in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Thursday, March 17 at 09:21 UTC. Through this activity and related studies, students will learn about space and space exploration, communication and technology. The Scout Amateur Radio Club SP5ZBA will handle the radio connection for the contact. An ARISS contact has been scheduled for Luitpold-Gymnasium Muenchen, Munich, Bavaria, Germany on Thursday, March 17 at 14:05 UTC. To prepare for their contact, seventeen year olds taking the course "Spaceflight" were joined by children from lower grades to learn about aeronautics and scientific work. The ESA ISS Education Kit was used in their studies and the German amateur radio organization (DARC) gave the youth a comprehensive introduction to amateur radio on the ISS. ISIP Cossar / Da Vinci, Gorizia, Italy has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Saturday, March 19 at 08:38 UTC. The radio contact, the telecommunication equipment installed and used in the school as well as the collaboration with a local group of amateur radio operators will offer telecommunications students the chance to test instruments able to connect to listening posts 300 km away. 2. Recent ARISS Contacts On Tuesday, March 8, youth from ICS "Marco D'oggiono", Oggiono, Italy spoke with Paolo Nespoli, IZØJPA via an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact. The astronaut fielded 13 questions before the ISS went over the horizon. Students wanted to know for example, what one needs to do to become an astronaut and what type of research is performed on the ISS. The contact was the featured event of lessons emphasizing astronautics, astronomy, radio techniques and English. Nearly 400 students and teachers and about 100 visitors were present for the contact. Regional television, local media and newspapers covered the event. An ARISS contact took place between youth attending Schulhaus Dorf in Richterswil, Switzerland and on-orbit astronaut Cady Coleman, KC5ZTH on Tuesday, March 8. Coleman answered the 22 questions prepared for her with time left to exchange greetings. The contact was the culmination of science lessons on space and gave the students the opportunity to practice their English. Students from "Francesco d'Assisi" Middle School and "Don Lorenzo Milani" Primary School in Modugno, Bari, Italy, experienced an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Saturday, March 12. The event was held at "Cittadella Mediterranea della Scienza" in Bari where an audience of approximately 150 students, teachers, visitors and media were assembled. Astronaut Paolo Nespoli, IZØJPA on the ISS spoke with the youth over 2 consecutive passes, answering 30 questions about what it is like to live in space. He answered a final question concerning the earthquake in Japan and expressed his concern for the Japanese. Regional television, local media and newspapers covered the event. On Saturday, March 12, Shri Krishna Vithyaalayam Matric School in Pollachi, India participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact with ISS astronaut Cady Coleman, KC5ZTH via telebridge station IK1SLD in Italy. Twelve questions were asked and answered. The contact was integrated into science lessons about astronomy, satellites and the ISS and included radio classes taught by the Anamalai Amateur Radio Club located at the school. 3. Astronaut Training Status Astronauts Luca Parmitano (Expedition 36) and Chris Cassidy (Expedition 35) both passed their amateur radio license exams on March 8. Their call signs should be issued within a week. On March 9, Michael Hopkins completed his ARISS introductory course and is currently preparing for his amateur radio license exam. Hopkins is slated to fly with Expedition 37 in September 2013. An ARISS refresher course was provided to Chris Hadfield, KC5RNJ/VA3OOG on March 11. Hadfield is currently scheduled for Expedition 34, November 2012. 4. ARRL QST Covers ARISS Activities The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) printed a few ARISS items in its April issue of QST, which has a circulation of 156,000. Under its "Media Hits" column was a piece about ARISS and the newspaper articles and TV news stories about Adobe Bluffs Elementary School's ARISS contact and about Foster Heights Elementary/Nelson County Area Technical Center in Kentucky. The "Inside HQ" column, a column giving ARRL 2010 highlights, had a paragraph on education programs including the 48 ARISS QSOs of 2010 (not NASA's fiscal year 2010), and ARISS's 10th anniversary.

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Shri Krishna Vithyaalayam Matric School, Pollachi (TK), India on 12 March. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 13:34 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between OR4ISS and IK1SLD. The contact should be audible over Italy and portions of Europe. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The school is located in rural part of Tamilnadu state in India. The school has got a global partnership program with Westborough school in UK. Mr.M.K.Anantha Ganesan, the founder and the Principal visited The Westborough school in September 2009. He is an amateur radio operator (VU3GPF). He visited the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society and is made a honorary member. Anamalai Amateur Radio Club functions from our school. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Scuola Media Statale "Francesco d'Assisi", Modugno, Italy and Scuola 3 Circolo Didattico Don Lorenzo Milani, Modugno, Italy on 12 March. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 10:22 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between IR0ISS and IZ7RTN. The contact should be audible over Italy. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in Italian or English. The "Francesco d'Assisi" Middle School is located in Modugno, a little town in the hinterland from the Adriatic coast not too far from Bari. The school is attended by about 300 students, aged from 11 to 14. The school also offers a variety of elective courses in the early afternoon, i.e. extracurricular activities. Priority is given to additional science, mathematics and Italian language courses, sports programs (such as volley), chorus and musical education, visual arts, publishing (student newspaper), preparation to mathematics competitions such as the annual "Kangaroo of Mathematics". The school has a gym, a small library and a number of laboratories: science lab, computer labs, graphic arts lab, music lab. The Primary School 3° Didactic Circle Be them "Don Lorenzo Milani" is situated in Modugno (BA), inner a city small not a lot far away from the Barium city (9 Km) chief town of the Puglia. The school is made up of 6 plessi: 3 of school of Infancy and 3 of Primary School. In 2010/2011 the school accommodates 1,039 pupils of which 613 of Primary School of age between the 6 and 10 years uniforms in 32 classes, and 426 pupils of School of Infancy of age between the 3 and 6 years uniforms in 17 sections. The pupils attend for 6 days to the week, the timetable for every lesson to the day are 5 hours of 60 minutes of the following matters Italian, mathematical, sciences, geography, English, computer science laboratory, music, image, motoria activity.
