The NASA-TV schedule is showing that NASA-TV coverage of tonight's launch of multiple student CubeSats begins at 6:30 PM. The launch should be visible along the East Coast since it's from Wallops Island.

Northern Virginia Radio Donation Offer

Hi everyone, I received a phone call from Joy Gephart, the spouse of Karl Gephart, who passed away 3 years ago. She said her husband had a "large radio collection including satellite radios." She would like to donate these radios to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ... such as AMSAT. She does not know which radios are in the collection. She asked for assistance in assessing the type and value of the radios. She would donate the radios but wants to know the value of the gift for her taxes. Mrs. Gephart is in the northern Virginia area around Washington DC. I hope one of our members in that area could help close the deal on the donation. Rather than blast her home telephone number out on the e-mail list please reply to me and I'll send it to you if you wish to make contact. AZ-EL antenna rotator and Raspberry Pi project

Friends: I recently came back from the AMSAT Symposium where I did a presentation of The Montgomery College Satellite Antenna Rotator Project. The conference presentation, the conference paper, the source code, and the circuit schematics are found at http://code.google.com/p/mc-satellite-antenna-rotator-project/ At this point the project is a work in progress since I have a rotator reliability issue to resolve. AMSAT-DC Workshop Planning: DATES

WE ARE LOOKING for a good (nearly) all-day Saturday date to hold our next AMSAT-DC Spring Workshop 2014. Which dates are BAD because of other events already planned? I automatically avoid Easter weekend (Sat Apr 19), Passover time (Sat Apr 19) and the GBHC hamfest in Timonium (Sat Apr 5) ... http://www.gbhc.org Steve KS1G suggested to add the VA QSO Party dates to avoid and I agree: Sat Mar 15 ... http://www.qsl.net/sterling/VA_QSO_Party/2014_VQP/2014_VQP_Main.html This means that Sat Mar 22, Sat Mar 29 and Sat Apr 12 are looking good for our workshop. Please check your calendar for the dates of other public events to avoid and PLEASE let me know asap, especially for these three "going" dates noted. I will look for free and low-cost venues with our date options starting with the one from this past workshop. Namely, the NASA Goddard VC. If you have a personal contact with another free (and roomy and accessible) venue in the MDC area and can lead the effort to capture it then let me know about that too! AMSAT-DC Co-Sponsorship of next year's AMSAT-NA Meeting?

We just returned from the AMSAT Annual Meeting and Space Symposium this past weekend in Houston. It was co-sponsored by the JSC Radio Club and the Clear Lake Amateur Radio Club, who did a great job supporting the planning and operation of the symposium, and organizing the tour of Johnson Space Center and W5RRR club station following the symposium. Next year's meeting will be in the Washington/Baltimore/NoVA area at a date and exact hotel location yet to be determined. If AMSAT members in our MDC section would be interested in supporting this meeting in any capacity please get in touch with me (Dan Schultz N8FGV) or with Frank Bauer KA3HDO. I expect that planning sessions will begin in January right after the holidays. (Not to be confused with the planning of the AMSAT-DC Spring Workshop 2014 which begins this month and which is scheduled to occur in the month of March.) Thoughts?
