IC-821H Satellite Radio All-Mode for sale

[reduced price for LARG, SPARC, AMSAT, see below] I am selling my IC-821H all-mode 2M/70cm satellite radio (funds to go towards acquiring an IC9700). I am the original owner; this was my 1st new true satellite radio, used at home non-smoking) and Field Day. More recently, this was my radio for roving. It is in excellent electronic condition, outputs full power on 2M and 70cm. Good-VG cosmetic condition: has some scratches on panels and abrasion of the front buttons, but EVERYTHING works as it should. Comes with MH26 mic, DC cable with Power Poles, acc plug, manual and schematics, and original packaging. This radio will let you work almost every FM and SSB/CW and Data satellite currently operating, including Falconsat-3 (9k6 data). Fully compatible with SatPC32, the new S.A.T tracker/controller (I helped them test the code for the 821H), and probably other software (MacDoppler, hamlib, etc.). Also good for terrestrial VHF & UHF modes (CW, SSB, WSJT modes, APRS, FM...). Ergonomics for manual satellite ops (e.g. managing doppler control) are excellent. We always welcome AMSAT participation at our events since many of our members and guests, to include myself and of course Dave Taylor, are avid satellite enthusiasts. We were thinking it would be constructive to set up a table in the indoor spaces where AMSAT could layout brochures, information, gadgets, etc. Of course, a demo would be awesome(!) if it could be arranged. If AMSAT can attend, then we would promote that fact on both the CARAFest website, and on the CARA Club website, and likewise via social media, etc., to get the word out. We'd also like to help celebrate the AMSAT's 50th anniversary - in some way. Please let us know if you would be interested. Some information for your reference: - CARAFest POCs are Andy Protigal (CARA Vice President and also AMSAT Life Member) and David Parkison (CARA Treasurer and CARAFest Vice Chair). Supporting an ARISS contact

A student at a Leesburg area middle school has approached my local club for help with an ARISS contact proposal. I'm the club's satellite guy, so the club president asked if I'm interested in helping. I am interested, I'd like to hear from folks who e supported a contact what amount of involvement I can expect to have to provide. I know there's a lot of preparation and advance coordination required. I have a copy of the proposal guide and have started reading it. For Sale: Ron Parise, WA4SIR Ham Equipment

All, I would like to do a final push for the sale of the last pieces of equipment that I have from Ron Parise, WA4SIR. For those that purchase Ron's equipment, all proceeds will go to the Ron Parise Scholarship Memorial fund at Youngstown State University, Ron's alma mater. For the few that might not have met Ron, he was a phenomenal individual, a ham's ham and astronaut on two Space Shuttle missions, STS-35 & STS-67. He operated the SAREX ham radio on-board both these missions, in 1990 and 1995 respectively. He lived in Silver Spring, Maryland, worked at NASA Goddard and was a phenomenal member and supporter of the Goddard Amateur Radio Club, ARRL and AMSAT. I took pictures of some of the equipment in my inventory. We originally planned to give some of these items to schools, but that has not worked out. The logistics of giving these out is unwieldy and we have not gotten any schools interested in taking these. AMSAT Field Day

Field Day is a week out. Who's going to be on the birds, and from where? I am again running the satellite station for Loudoun Amateur Radio Group. Will be using K4LRG, operating from our usual location near Lovettesville VA (FM19ef). You'll have to work us to get the rest of the exchange :) Running my Icom 821 and the M2 Leo Pack. Primary ops will be CW/SSB; FM if it's a good pass and I feel lucky. No digital because I again ran out of time to get PSK and APRS software onto my laptop and the laptop interfaced with the radios. (If I start right after FD 17, I might be ready by '18!) A sounding rocket carrying ten barium canisters is scheduled to launch from Wallops Island sometime between 9:04 -9:19 p.m. tonight (Sunday June 11). Canisters will deploy between 4 and 5.5 minutes after launch releasing blue-green and red vapor to form artificial clouds in the ionosphere. It should be visible throughout our area if skies remain clear.
