The last event at the NASM was Space Day, which included a live ARISS contact and AMSAT display stands with a variety of equipment and presentations. Event: Hispanic Heritage Month Family day—Argentina in Air and Space Location: National Air and Space Museum Date: Saturday, October 16, 2010 Time: 10 AM – 3 PM I am volunteering to organize AMSAT's participation for the event. Please contact me through e-mail if you are interested and able to participate in any form. I will need to know: * Can you volunteer any exhibition/display resources (pictures, posters, etc.) ? * Can you volunteer your time on October 16, 2010 for any portion? * Can you provide any presentation materials relevant to Argentina in Air and Space? * Will you require transportation? etc. etc. Additional info from NASM: NASM is looking for AMSAT members who would be interested in talking to the visitors about satellites. Because the focus of the day is Argentina, we are particularly interested in people with expertise in Argentinean satellites. Bonus points for members how can discuss Pehuensat-1 because Pablo de Leon, who was the payload manager, will be a featured speaker at the event. Expectations: AMSAT members would set-up tables with equipment, posters, and other items of interest to visitors. These tables would be staffed throughout the day by AMSAT members. You are welcome to volunteer for a couple of hours or the whole day. Free parking will be provided all, and lunch will be provided for people who volunteer the whole day. This event will celebrate both the centennial and bicentennial of Argentina. For the centennial celebration we will focus on Jorge Newberry and lighter than air. For the bicentennial (which is this year) the focus will be on Argentina’s accomplishments in space. The linchpin of this portion of the program will be Pablo de Leon. He has been involved with a number of projects for the NASA and CONAE. Based on his accomplishments a special feature will focus on space suit design, development and production—ILC Dover has agreed to bring some of the people who make the actual suits. I have already outlined some of his involvement in satellites. In addition to that, CONAE is sending a large model of the SAC-D satellite and I am hopeful to have some the Aquarius team involved as well.

Got radio? Great! You are in! Got laptop? Great! You are in! There are many jobs to do. Sign-up sheets are available. I will be holding a ten-minute planning session at the next Carroll County Amateur Radio Club meeting in Westminster, Md., on Monday night, September 13, complete with a demo of the three different PICetSat module types. (Two types of the module have their 433.920 MHz FM telemetry downlink in Morse Code and the other in Packet Radio.) We will choose to fly one of them. USA Science Festival on the Mall in Washington DC

Hello everyone, I received this information from Pat Barthelow AA6EG. He is the guy who organized the Arecibo EME Project. This science festival begins the same weekend as the 2010 AMSAT Symposium - passing it along for any hams on the east coast who may be interested ... http://www.usasciencefestival.org/ Oct 10-24 2010 Perhaps a great venue for an EME DXpedition/Field Demonstration. Perhaps an opportunity for Arecibo to get on, and have small yagis on the Mall in DC demonstrating EME with Arecibo. Perhaps an opportunity for ARRL/AMSAT/EOA/??/EME booth? Booth & Forum at GBHC Timonium March 27-28

http://www.gbhc.org Hello all, Lotsa plannin' goin' on in these parts for March and April . . . I am preparing for the Greater Baltimore Hamboree and Computerfest / ARRL Maryland State Convention at the end of this month. See the official web link above. So far, I am flying pretty much solo, but I have some big plans that I think can be pulled off without much sweat. You are invited to pass by to chat while you are there. Or, if you are so moved, you can join forces with me, regardless whether or not you are an ARRL or AMSAT member. (I could use a hand or two. ;-) The basic plan: I have TWO tables reserved for an AMSAT booth in the Exhibition Hall, not far from the main ARRL booth. I will set up there in Timonium on Friday night, March 26, so that we can hit the road "running" as soon as the hamfest gates open to the public on Saturday morning, March 27. I have two one-hour forum slots to fill on Sunday morning, March 28, for AMSAT. I am working to get a visible AMSAT official to start with a short talk (any subject), and then I will backfill the remaining time with a Microcontroller- based simulated satellite project that Amateur Radio beginners and long-time experimenters will be sure to enjoy. My segment will culminate with a small balloon launch, not unlike what Bob Bruninga, WB4APR, did years ago except that the "flight modules" got smaller, cheaper, more powerful(!) and expendable. I will publicize a local AMSAT-DC Workshop that will be held in Greenbelt in late April like last year. I welcome your advice and recommendations.
