Hi guys, We have about three weeks until our local AMSAT meeting and space seminar. Here is my status report. We have three speakers lined up and one demo. I have two (maybe three) volunteers lined up, but with a list of nearly twenty tasks not filled. The entire list is shown on the http://patkilroy.com/smsat-dc web page. Are we okay with this? Anybody want a surplused HughesNet setup?

We're out in the sticks so to get decent Internet access we had to get a bi-directional satellite dish from HughesNet. We recently had technical problems and they forced us to upgrade all our hardware. They abandoned all the old stuff here. So I've got a surplused 0.8 meter dish with feedhorn electronics and a modem. The installer that came out thinks it was the surge protectors that the original installer put onto the cable harness. He suspects all the electronics are fine. The dish has a scrape where the siding guys managed to scratch it. The dish has a pipe-mount on the back. (You'd have to supply your own pipe and concrete. 8) There is no harness as they reused all the old cabling in the new installation. I'm just looking to get it out of the yard and into a good home, I don't need money for it. But you need to come out to Warrenton, VA to pick it up! Since this is old stuff I don't think that HughesNet will let you commission it. ISS Crossband Repeater is ON

Print this message. FYI, YOU MIGHT WANNA TUNE in 145.800 MHz on your FM transceiver or scanner radio to listen to the international repeater as it flies overhead in the afternoon or evening. A given pass is less than ten minutes, so you will also need to know when it is flying by. See below for all the scoop you need to know to check it out! Helpful Newbee Notes: You may need to add or delete spaces in the header line of the pass list below to make the labels line up over the column properly. The dates and times (in hh:mm:ss) are given in EST -- NOT UTC -- for the greater Washington-Baltimore area. You may disregard the "Between" column of info. (I myself don't find it very useful.) Height is given in miles for the sub-satellite point, not your range to the ISS. When listening for the first time, don't worry about tuning for Doppler unless you are really picky, and then just tune for "best signal" at leave it at that for the moment. If you hear the chatter and enjoy it then tell your friends! Call to Volunteer for AMSAT-DC Meeting WE ARE LOOKING for a few good people to help make our meeting and space seminar on March 15 an outstanding success. We can make it happen. AMSAT members in the past have been great hosts and hostesses. More demos are sought. Do you have a piece of hardware that you built, software you wrote, an article of interest you wrote, any photos you took, or have an activity (done or to propose) that you would share with the group? Please do! OUR NUMBER ONE REQUEST Help boost attendance! Can you help spread the word for us? Bring a friend, tell a teacher, invite others, talk it up on a net, or distribute fliers? Hand out fliers at a club meeting or a hamfest? Can you post the "clip 'n' share" notice to an e-mail list? Could you come an hour early to help set up or stay a few minutes late to clean up?
