I have one of these that was given to me some time ago which I plan to use this summer. So I thought I would repair it. The plastic covers of the terminal connections have cracked and need replacing, I either need a source for them or the same socket as my 5500 would allow me to swap them over. (My 5500 has a failed pot I think) does anybody have a source for these bits? I tested the 5400 last night and all's working fine except: The azimuth rotator refused to move CCW until I worked CW/CCW a few times, I'm thinking thats a sticky relay in the control box as it was totally silent when the CCW button was pressed. That will possibly cure it's self with a bit of use as it's working now. The elevation feedback was erratic to start with but has now settled down, I'm supposing dirty pot in that one which will also cure it's self with a bit of use. The issue I really have is should I strip them down? Both have quiet operation C/W and elevate but both are nosier on return CCW and descend. I checked the bearings on the elevation unit through the inspection cap and under the terminal screws and they look fine, shiny and greased. I'm unable to check the azimuth unit without cracking it open. What's the feeling on preventative maintaince on these units? Does anybody add a drain hole to them? Hi Paul, I have repaired my KR400 and KR500 for the same reasons. After inspection I found out the rotor was very dirty inside. SatPC32 Question

Just recently on my last fo-29 pass.. I attempted to have SatPC32 do my doppler correction for me. This is what I noticed.. and I am looking for any Ideas. When I found my downlink freq using the VFO mode the doppler would jump every 5-6 seconds.. not a smoothe tune. and eventually I lost my downlink freq altogether. How often does the program tell the radio to move the frequency? I have it set to the recomended 90 setting.. Im just wondering is this normal.. or should it smoothly tune a ssb signal at all? -Steve Raas N2JDQ FN20vg

Also, can someone confirm the spelling. I see references to Peheunsat and Pehuensat on the web. The AMSAT Argentina site shows the latter. Has anyone from the "command group" confirmed that there have been signals heard? I saw one message that they heard signals shortly after lift-off. One last "brainstrom :-) : I see ISS is in close proximity (haven't checked PCSAT-1, that would be even better to pick up the packet burst) to the satellite. Any chance of getting one of the astronauts to turn the radio to 145.825MHz? After all, they're not TOO busy, huh?? :-) . Hi Andre, I used to have a KR-010 and there was no program for it. You send ascii code for U (up), D (down), L (left) and R (right) to control it. You must have a tracking program that sends these codes to the KR-010 to control it or do it manually from your PC. My very first ORBITS II program was setup to control the KR-010 but I dropped the KR-010 support when the KCT came out and programmed to support it instead. I'll look around and see if I still have the KR-010 documentation. I'm not sure that I ever had any, other than verbal instructions. Somewhere I still have the KR-010 packed away however. -- Roy -- W0SL
