However, if you are in the North then you need to generate a 'south pole' to repel the satellite. -Remember, the geographic north pole is a magnetic south pole- That's why the north pole of your compass points towards it. 73 David

How do you generate a north or south 'pole' in isolation? Probably not possible so you would generate opposing forces that cancel. I realise that you can have one pole closer to the earth than the other, but given that the relative sizes makes the satellites magnet 'infinately small' in comparison to the earth I think the forces would be virtually equal and opposite. Hence magnetorquing can generate rotational forces but not 'thrusting' type forces. Sound reasonable? 73 David

Petition to block Luc from the -bb

I propose that all who are tired of this individual poisoning what is otherwise a peaceful and productive environment with his abusive and slanderous posts against an organization that I for one am proud to be part of and will continue to support. Sign this petition or make it be known in some fashion that you are tired of this kind of behavior and that Luc Leblanc VE2DWE be blocked from the AMSAT and all affiliated -bb systems. Greetings to all! For those that know me, you will remember me as a condo dweller in McLean Virginia, just outside Washington DC. Satellite operations were virtually impossible, with just a discone on my balcony, 140ft AGL. So, I restricted my satellite operations to Field Day, when I helped the local club to cobble together a satellite station, to get the bonus points and to thrill the onlookers when the Az/El mount started stepping across the sky. Well, my situation has changed. I'm now back in Kingston Jamaica where I spent three delightful years in the past (2001-2004). In the next few weeks, I expect to know whether this will be a long term assignment. If it is (and I expect it to be), I shall be moving forward quickly to build a satellite station, basically from the ground up, to operate the existing LEOs. So I'll be activating 6Y5 on the sats shortly. Mr Davies- I enjoy seeing posts from luc. I dont always agree with him but support to right to free expression, something many people died for to preserve. He may be wrong at times but if you are expressive, you will get it right sometimes. I'm an american citizen who is disappointed that Americans drafted Werner Von Braun of Nazi fame to design the atlas 5 rocket for the appollo missions back in the 60's so luc isnt too far off. Take your blinders off. I have no problem with patriotism but in the extreme it led to the rise of the nazis in the 30's. Take the middle road and be open minded and maybe you wont repeat the mistakes of the past. As an observation, people are getting too personal on this BB. Simply delete the mail if you dont like it. Can orbit be raised by magnetorque ?

Thinking on a future LEO Sun-synchronous satellite project, this question was made. What happens if when satellite in the north we apply a north magnetic field on z plane, will satellite raise orbit ?. Same but opposite on south.
