Hi miles- de patrick n2oeq- nice to see you thinking of the future. I miss the MIR days. I think there was a simple kenwood dual bander on the MIR. I looked at the icom ID800 and my first impression was that it was not a simple radio and I am not interested in buying a new digital radio to work the ISS. Since there is no rush, please consider other radio models of SIMPLE design. Within the past couple of years I purchased a very easy to operate Yaesu FT8800R dual band rig capable of cross-band repeat, 9600 baud packet, and narrow FM operation to name a few. I looked at several rigs before deciding on it. Of course, it was a personal preference and others may prefer other models but I found this to be my choice for satellite work etc. I think it would be safer to consider a rig that has been around a while that has been refined in production and proven in use. Most important is that it be as simple as possible so as not to be disinteresting to the crew. Well, its all academic since it has to be approved but I'm happy to see you working on it. PCSAT-1 not heard over New Zealand

A short report on PCSAT-1 ========================= Just have two good passes over Wellington, New Zealand at 20:35 and 22:20 Hrs, 2 June 2007, UTC. (Sunday morning, 8:35 am and 10:20 am local time) Nothing heard from PCSAT-1. 2 days ago, I heard three packets during that pass, but my TNC has not connected, so unable to determine if they came from PCSAT-1 or someone or something else on the same frequency at that time. AO-51 QSO with KI4PSR?

Of course he is NOW a believer in having a recorder.) Brief trip to CM86

I'll be in uncommon grid CM86 on Saturday (with a slight possibility of a pass on Sunday). CM86 consists of the western half of Santa Cruz, CA and ALOT of ocean. NOTE, given that the preferred AO-27 pass will be occuring during the Rochester Hamfest, please allow for that and please call me WITH YOUR STATE/PROVINCE as well as your grid square. Thus those at the hamfest unfamiliar with satellite or VHF/UHF operation can know how far our satellites reach. That pass (in UTC) is: AO-27 Sat 02Jun07 22:04:28 22:11:07 22:17:50 00:13:22 130 67 3 21.8 and barely reaches into Vermont. Given this and the hamfest, please minimize routine hellos to other 'regulars'. I will also try to make this pass: AO-27 Sat 02Jun07 23:43:04 23:50:23 23:57:51 00:14:47 184 261 340 41.8 and note that which SO-50 is overhead at the about same time, it will not be high enough in the sky to be reliable for me. Bruce, I was not clear, my concern was just the opposite --- Their point was AO-51 is not a single channel FM satellite, but a dual channel satellite. That implies there would be no limit to the number of contacts you could make on AO-51, as there are no ARRL restrictions on dual channel birds.
