DownEast Microwave has provisions for Changing the LO Crystals by using a simple switch in their Transverters I did this in their 70cm transverter using a 28mhz IF Mike KA2AEV In a message dated 6/12/2007 3:17:20 P.M. Kenwood THD7E Problem with PC connection.

I thought I would fire up my THD7E and the arrow to work some sats mobile and tried to program the required frequencys in with the PC lead and software. PC and lead are ok as I can talk to the internal modem no problem. However when trying to use the Kenwood THD7(G) software version 1.10 it returns the fault of "The Radio Is Invalid" I tried the newer version of software with the same result "The Radio Is Invalid" I'm sure my radio is the older THD7 and has worked to upload/download without problem before. TASCO Radio Modem AX.25 Level 2 Version 2.0 Release 08/18/98 2Chip ver 1.00 This is the info the modem outputs in TNC mode. Full band transverters for satellite operations?

With the advent of rigs like the FLEX-5000, features are becoming available which exist in no traditional rig. However, for operation on VHF, UHF, and microwave frequencies, you are obviously going to need a transverter. Using a 28-30 MHz IF, you can cover 2 meters with 2 LO crystals. However, once you get to 70 cm, it would take 15 crystals to do this. Now admittedly, you wouldn't necessarily want to cover the entire band, as an FT-847, TS-2000, etc do. But you would want more flexibility than just one or two 2 MHz segments for both space and terrestrial operations. More if you wanted to include basic FM repeaters. Given that there are no (?) transverters which have a 20-30 MHz IF width, has anyone seen a transverter with a tunable IF, instead of crystals? Or alternatively, a VFO-like "VLO" which could be plugged into the transverter crystal socket, or something equivalent? There used to be such VFOs for crystal rigs 3-40 years ago. O.K. I have a Icom 820 and for field day I intend to try VO-52 with out computer controlled anything. I have Dos 6.22 , IT and a 386 notebook. Yagis for 2M and 70cm. Question should I adjust the transmit (70cm) or the receive (2 M ) for Doppler? I relize that either will work but this is a protocall question covering only the FD operation in June. Looking for some sound advise not lectures. Thanks, Art, KC6UQH

I think the key to the HOA's power of restriction lies in the definition of "Premises". If the definition includes the land and the home, then they can govern what happens in the backyard. If the language eg. says no antennas on the premises, then nothing will be allowed on land or building. In most cases they can even tell you to mow your lawn if it's too long in terms of the docs !! I used to manage HOA's and also lived in one. Hence the move to a non restricted area. Sorry to hear about the issues Steve. HOA's can be pretty unpleasant and unfortunately have a lot of power. Don't lose faith, just make sure at your next purchase.
