Bulkhead Connectors

Greetings, I thought I would ask the list about their experience withbulkhead coax feed-throughs. I’m running coax into my shack and thewalls are made of 2” x 6” construction. I have seen both UHF andType ‘N’ bulkhead connectors that are 10 inches long. This shouldbe long enough to get me all the way from inside to outside with alittle extra space for a grounding plate. Has anyone ever looked athow these bulkheads perform? I am hoping to run up to 1296 MHz throughone of the type ‘N’ variety. Personally, and with all due respect, I think that even suggesting the use of any single or dual channel voice satellite during FD is fundamentally flawed, on equal status with suggesting next year FD be held on 60M alone. You can put a glass of water on a table in front of 5 people, and they know there is a reasonable expectation they will get a sip, and act accordingly to each other. Put the same glass in front of 100, and they know there is reasonable expectation they will not, and their management of the situation will change accordingly. Regardless of the "rules". I acknowledge the importance of a satellite presence during FD, but I question the benefit to AMSAT and to the rest of the satellite community by openly advertising and offering "100 people a sip from a glass of water", and letting the rest of the ham community at FD watch what ensues. Think for a moment.... what did the non-satellite ops at your site think? Does anyone really believe that a tweak or a clarification of the rules will improve the situation next year? This issue, in my opinion, has been beat to death over the last five years right here on -bb. Check the archives of May 2005 for one instance. However, one of the problems with using -bb as a forum for discussing such things is there is no efficient way to tell who is a member and who is not. In lieu of another list discussion, I did speak with a great many members in person and via email about this proposed change, and to the last each was in agreement. It was also discussed with the entire executive team and the board of directors. I think it is important to remember here that the rule change only brought the ARRL rules in line with the already existing AMSAT Field Day rules. I simply asked the League to ask their contestants to follow the same common sense rule that ours were supposed to be following for the last several events.In that sense we really didn't change anything for those on this list. In any event, I appreciate your comments Alan. I do read every message on the -bb, and I try to be as open as possible about every aspect of what AMSAT activities I am involved in. As my involvement in AMSAT has increased, I often find myself naturally in the role of representing the general membership's interest. In years past it has been expressed here on -bb that the BOD members were more involved in the discussions online. Words of wisdom from a true gentleman of AMSAT. I was going to craft some sort of reply to this tempest in a teapot about Field Day, but Clare's words leave little left to be said. If anyone is unhappy about the ARRL rule change, I apologize. I was responsible for requesting it with the contest committee as VP of Operations for AMSAT-NA, and I followed up until it was considered and approved. I thought it to be in the best interest of AMSAT, especially on a day where many are getting their first exposure to satellites. Direct your complaints to me, and not to the ARRL. I am the responsible party. The real solution to this problem is for EVERY user of satellites to join AMSAT and support P3E and Eagle so we can have wonderfully wide and high transponders to make lots of QSOs on. I confirmed GO-32 came back with a mixture of BEACON and NORMAL signal. BBS version changed to the version 9.87 beta. This thread is getting so convoluted. The rules are simple. You can only CLAIM on your submission ONE contact per transponder on an FM satellite. PERIOD. If you want to make 100 to show your friends how satellites work, go for it but you can only turn in one of those contacts for credit. Everyone else will thank you for helping them make theirone contact so you should be proud that you were helping out a fellow ham. It just does not benefit you. So, my question is...
