Delfi-C3 - Not Heard - - - - - Yet!!!

Congratulations on what appears to be a successful launch and satellite deployment!! Listened for Delfi-C3 from 0500 UTC to 0510 UTC here in Northern California on .870 and ,930 +/- 10 KHz and heard nothing - - - - but the satellite was in eclipse until late in my pass and then it was getting near the horizon. Just listened for Delfi-C3. Perhaps Alaska will have better luck!!! Regards...Bill - N6GHz

Dear All, Just witnessed the very successful launch of Delfi-C3 and all other satellites launched from India via DD National live. My congratulations to all those involved in making this launch a success. Now awaiting the reception of the first signals some 9 hours from now. Will have to wait for tomorrow morning to copy the first signal from Delfi-C3 due to it being in eclipse during the first pass over West Malaysia. Delfi C3 launch succes

I am watching the PLSV-C9 launch from India and at 0408Z PSLV-C9 was at 2932 km downrange at an altitude of 626KM and the launch was perfect at 0353Z. The tentative Delfi C3 KEPS "seems" to be ahead of the actual PSLV-C9 position. We will not be able here on the eastern North American side to get the sat before 1329Z (0929 EST) RASCALS is working tracking is ready i just wait for the real KEPS and the first report from the western coast of NA. Congratulations for the launch team in India and it's could be a world premiere a 10 satellites launch on a single rocket. P.S. Delfi C3 first orbit

Hi all. Delfi C3 is being launched at 03.53 UTC on Monday. I've loaded the keps from the web site, and it looks like the first stations to hear the satellite will be on the west coast of the USA at around 05.01 when the satellite exits eclipse heading north. Can anyone confirm this sounds about right? It doesn't look like the satellite will have a good pass over the University ground station until around 4.5 hours after launch. All the more reason to collect some valuable telemetry in the first few hours. Exciting times...... David

I use Compuserve 7.0 which is related to AOL. I am usually able to recover the bulletin as a download, but it does not display as a part of the message like other ANS-Bulletins and most other messages. I mentioned this to Joanne at Dayton (or Pittsburg) last year and neither of us can explain it. Do you send the bulletin as an attachment or embedded in a message? I occaisionally miss an ANS-Bulletin altoghther, but that is another problem. 73 - Keith, W5IU

AO-16 status update #3

Hello all, A quick look at the telemetry suggests that AO-16 is doing fine. The current transmitter output power is about 1.5 Watts. This is reduced from the earlier setting of about 1.8 Watts. As of 21:37 UTC 27 April 2008, AO-16 is again configured for voice mode and is open for normal operations: Uplink: 145.920 MHz FM Downlink: 437.0260 MHz DSB (LSB and USB). Users of AO-16 are encouraged to report any aberrant operations by either posting to the AMSAT-BB or by emailing the command team at n8mh AT amsat.org "Aberrant operations" might include the following: complete loss of signal from the spacecraft or significant change in the transmitter frequency. Hello all, I was able to command AO-16 ON during the 19:52 UTC pass over my QTH. The satellite is currently in 1200 BPSK digital MBL telemetry mode on the 437.026 MHz transmitter. Frequencies

Where could the satellite frequencies be found? I'm thinking that I would use the USB mode. My 2M/70cm antenna is a arrow OSJ 146/440 which is a J Pole vertical. Do I need a hand held antenna to get the satellites?Thanks, newbie - Walter

AO-16 status update

Hello all, There are reports at http://oscar.dcarr.org/ that AO-16 has gone silent. Should this be the case, there is no cause for alarm. Over the last month AO-16 has gone from full illumination (0 minutes of eclipse) to over 250 minutes of eclipse. Since the bird has no fancy housekeeping code running, a reasonable explanation is that the battery voltage dropped low enough to put the bird into a protected (and silent) mode. Over the next few days I'll work at collecting telemetry and restoring the voice mode operations of AO-16. Please refrain from transmitting to the satellite until further notice. Nevada Trip Update for grid square activity

I am doing the last bit of packing for my trip to Las Vegas tomorrow. I am taking gear with me to operate AO-16, AO-27, SO-50 and AO-51. Just before posting this email, I saw an update from N8MH that AO-16 may be silent due to the eclipse period it is now in, so operating from that one may not be an option. That should still leave me the FM birds to work with. If I get off the plan and to the rental car in time Monday, I should be able to operate a couple of the morning passes. I have a mid day meeting with a vendor which should finish in time to operate a couple of the afternoon passes. No sure how much time I will have during the week but will try to operate when I can. I try announce my presence on the passes I will be on as KA4KYI Portable followed by the grid square I am operating from. My signal may not be the best since I will be operating with handhelds and minimal antennas. I hope to operate with mag mount antennas on the rental car and a 3 element uhf beam from Arrow for the downlink. I am taking an AL-800 and my trusty IC-W32 for some operating possibilities from where I will be in Vegas. Ron KA4KYI

Clive says, "Unless there is an unexpected change of status (such as occured with OSCAR-7), I'm expecting this to be my last report." This report covers the period from 17 March to 21 April 2008. During this period the satellite has not been heard and no reports of reception have been received. Transmissions were expected to resume on 24 March, after the beacon switched-off on 14 March. However, permanent eclipses started a few days beforehand, which probably caused the transmission period to be terminated prematurely. It is now unlikely that the satellite will support any sustained period of operation, and will only transmit for a short time, possibly less than a single orbit, every 21 days. In the years ahead, it is possible that you may hear OSCAR-11, by accident, when tuning around the frequency. If you are able to record the satellite on audio tape or as a WAV file (not MP3), please do so, as it is unlikely that it will be heard on the next pass! The National Air and Space Museum (NASM) in Washington, D.C. has been approved for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Saturday, May 3 at 15:52 UTC via the telebridge station NN1SS in Greenbelt. This year Space Day will celebrate the 50th anniversary of NASA and NASA’s achievements through space exploration. Youth, ages 12 -18, will participate in the contact. The Washington Post, the NASM Web site and NASM e-news will cover the event which is open to the public. Thousands are expected to attend. 2. New Jersey School Contact, a Success On Monday, April 14, students from Central Middle School in Parsippany, New Jersey, participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact with alumnus Garrett Reisman, KE5HAE. Eighteen questions were asked and answered. Over 900 students, parents and others gathered at the school to witness the event. One radio station, three television stations (ABC, CBS, NJ12) and four newspapers including the Star Ledger, the Daily Record, Parsippany Life and the New York Times reported on the contact. The school also had its district communication, “Video on the Go” hooked up. The activity was recorded and available for viewing on their Web site. All 14 district schools had the opportunity to view the contact live. ARISS - Korean Museum Contact Successful Students visiting the National Science Museum of Korea participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Friday, April 18. Spaceflight participant Yi So-yeon, HL0ARISS, answered nine questions posed to her by the students in front of an audience of approximately 800. Over five television stations and four newspapers covered the event. 4. ARISS International Team Meeting Held The monthly Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) teleconference was held on Tuesday, April 15.
