No 9K6 BBS as yet during this pass. Lots of stations working through the FM repeater though. Occasional bursts of 1K2 packet. Alan said the 9K6 Store & Forward BBS would be operational. Quoted below. Help for an old timer

Hi Everybody, After a 15 year hiatus from being an active satellite operator, I am in the process of pulling my satellite ground station together to operate the various LEO birds that are available to us today. While almost all of the equipment I have is new, I have one vintage item that I would like to put to use in my shack but I am going to need some help. While I was working at SSTL back in the early 90s, I purchased two of the JAMSAT TrakBox kits developed by JA6FTL, JG6MCG, SM0TER et al from AMSAT-UK. As I understand it the kit was made available by TAPR here in the states for a while as well. I built one kit up at the time and sent it to my Dad, KB5ZPK (SK) for him to use in his newly acquired store-and-forward ground station here in Texas. Since I was operating from the Command Center at the University of Surrey, I put the other one aside for use at a later time. Well, the later time turned out to be now and of course since that time the world has dealt with Y2K and all of the associated software upgrades and changes that had to be done. It miraculously appears that I haven't lost any of the components for the kit so from a hardware standpoint I think I am set but I am concerned about the availability of post Y2K software to run in the system. So my question is, can anyone tell me if there is any post Y2K software available for the Trakbox and if so, how can I go about getting a copy of it? While I realize there are now other options available for autotracking, for sentimental reasons I would like to get my kit up and running so any help that I can get would be greatly appreciated. HOPE-1

"HOPE-1" sounds really fine in EL29kq. The following information is assuming that my SatPC32 is configured correctly for the "HOPE-1". My keps read the 36th orbit, an ascending pass at a height of 1196. I picked HOPE up at 0109z on a heading of 97 degrees az from EL29kq, less than 1 minute after AOS and copied her until 0121z at 10.2 degrees az. I lost her signals at 1 minute after LOS. My copy was made with and without the sp432vdg preamp in line and using a 17 element yagi in vertical position. Her signals were very readable un-amplified. there was some fading on two occasions with out loss of signal. My fourth string of copy was: BJ6SA XW XW AAA TTT AA6 ABT ETT TTT TTT TTT TTT TTT TTT TTT TTT XW XW Great job CHINA! 73 louis kd5gm

I'm not suggesting that there's anything wrong with that. Time spent searching for configuration data procedures is time that cannot be spent doing more useful projects. I gave a quick (and uneducated) effort to adding XW-1 into my .SQF files from what I read here on -bb. No success. But no problem. I'll get back to worrying about XW-1 eventually. In the meantime I have other more pressing things to do. Rather than all of us reinventing the wheel each time a new satellite is launched and operational, why not have one of the 'experts' make the additions and make the subsequent .SQL files available to all somewhere on the Amsat web site?
