HEO naivete

Hello I have never complained on this BB before. However, I do have a fair amount of naivete (as many of us) regarding our next HEO. The lack of information from AMSAT as well from our DL friends is frustraiting. I read in the news about many countries sending up satellites virtually every few weeks. . The shuttle is going up every few months. With all this traffic why can't we get a ride? I know it's all about money. In the latest AMSAT Journal there is an article talking about using frequencies at 5650 and 3400Mhz. Talk about scarr ing away curr e n t members let alone attracting new ones. AO-40 (sobsob) was supposed to be the best of the best for everyone. The current mentality seems to be to put all our "over the top" technology in one basket. I subscribe to the KISS (keep it simple stupid) principle regarding my ham radio endeavors. An example, when L or S mode is open on AO-51 how many are there? Yes, I pay my dues, buy AMSAT shirts, and contribute to the Presidents Club fu nding, and can be found on many of our satellites. I build and sell antennas and send a portion of those proceeds to AMSAT. I believe I have earned the right to complain. I have read the background of many of our members and BOD, we indeed have many very smart educated people in high places. Am I naive about the details? No doubt. I'm just a retired old ham with a back yard full of unuseable antennas, and a lack of comprehenson about what is going on (or not). If this diatribe is all wet I can take the slings and arrows. Hi All I agree with most of the comments made re Amsat I know that there are many obstacles to over come to get a bird in orbitInformation on the progress of new satellites seems to be a little scarce Could somebody from Amsat-US and Amsat-DL give us a current update as to the build progress on there satellite ie 100% built 50% built etcThe most common cause for complaint is lack of information if we knew the current Status we will know where to direct our donations 73 Keith GU6EFB

Newcomer with a question

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the contacts so far. I am new and an getting the hang of working the various modes and splits. I am curious if there is a rig control program for the IC-706mkiig that does the doppler correction for both up and downlink frequencies. I have been using HRD but I can only get it to control one VFO at a time. I have tried both the new beta version and the older standard and I just can't get it to work. I know the 706 is not really a satellite rig but I have been using it and my 275H together to make 40 or so contacts so far. Now I have come up on the AO-07 and really need both controlled. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Joe KI4TZ

Good Book on Astrodynamics

Came across this book recently at a local flea market - "Fundamentals of Astrodynamics". Great book explaining basic 2-body and N-body equations, classical orbital elements, and orbital transfer maneuvers. A little history is sprinkled in as well. Mine is a 1971 edition, but looks like there are still a few available on Amazon, new, old stock, I guess - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0486600610?ie=UTF8&tag=outoftheeth-20&link… Gets a little deeper than I want to go with some topics, but an interesting read, none the less.
