G-5500 rotor motor intermittent

Andrew and group, Read this post and others about the 5500, and I am trying to figure out what do with my rotor or my controller. My rotor has become more and more intermittent over time, so I opened up my cables and put molex connectors in line so I can debug. I started with impedance of the rotor. My Elevation is working now and my rotation is not. I pulled out the schematic and see that the rotor motor is on 4-5-6 with the common on 6 each and the up/down or left/right on 4-5. I measured the impedance of 4 & 5 against 6, and the Ele was near 2-3 ohms and the Ele was open. I am wondering if this is an intermittent internal limit switch? Taking my rotor apart is a huge deal, so I want to be sure I am looking at this situation correctly and what else should I be looking for or measuring? I had my G-500 a month before the motor went out and had to send it to Yaesu. Everything was balance as well. What I think happened is one of the buttons on the control box got stuck in one direction and caused the motor to burn up. What I did was change the fuse that Yaesu uses from a 2 amp AGC to a 1 amp slow blow fuse. Another Field Day Call

Greetings, I will be the satellite station (VHF/UHF terrestrial too) for the Alexandria Radio Club (W4HFH) operating in FM and SSB modes only. It will be interesting this year since there is a big high-tension power line and substation in one quadrant, buildings in two other quadrants and high steel overpasses from I-95 in the other quadrant. I wonder if I'll be able to hear anyone? Perhaps I'll only hear my own reflected signal or maybe I can resonant all the metal around and talk down to the horizon! Nothing like a little RF anarchy while operating in harsh conditions I say! What did you say your call sign was? Which station is going to be near the center of the passband? Hi, hi!!! Jim, N8OQ

Special Event operation coming to the satellites!

Hey everyone, This time next week, at least nine of the Original 13 Colonies will be active on the amateur satellites as part of a special event organized by Ken, KU2US, in New York. Here is the Web site announcing the event, and the certificate available: http://home.comcast.net/~dzabawa/ThirteenColonies.htm You’ll also find updates on Ken’s QRZ.com page – look up KU2US. When I saw an email about this special event, I contacted Ken and asked if he’d consider including satellite operations in the event. He responded with an enthusiastic yes – then told me to get everything organized as quick as I could because we were running out of time! I’m glad to do it because this should be a fun event for us on the satellites. As I write this, we have commitments from stations in nine of the original 13 colonies, and they will be using the call signs for each that are listed on the special events page. For example, I’ll be operating as K2G daily during the special event. I intend to work at least one pass of every satellite as K2G, every day. Listed alphabetically by Colony, here are the stations that have confirmed to date. The calls they will use are in parentheses: Georgia – Tim, N3TL (K2G) Massachusetts – Dave, KB1PVH (K2H) New Hampshire – Rik, N1XED (K2K) New Jersey – Marc, W4MPS (K2I) New York – Peter, WB2OQQ (K2A) North Carolina – Jim, ND9M (K2J) Rhode Island – Fletch, N1RCN (K2C) South Carolina – Art, K4YYL (K2L) Virginia – Steve, NL7VX (K2B) As of now, there are four of the original 13 colonies NOT scheduled to be active on the satellites: Connecticut Delaware Maryland Pennsylvania Can anyone help with any of them? The process is simple: 1 – Please email me off the BB to let me know of your interest. 2 – You can work as many or as few satellite passes as you like during the special event. It’s supposed to be fun, not work! 3 – After the event, email your log(s) to KU2US, who will handle the certificates. I’ll provide more information after hearing from anyone who wants to activate one of the four remaining colonies. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to work one or more of us on passes from July 1 through July 5. W2RDX from Webster, NY (FN13) will be on this weekend for FD. As Tim alluded to, don't forget that you can work the same station on both SSB and CW on the analog transponders, so plug in those keys! Addtionly, according the ARRL FD rules, DX stations should send their operating class and "DX". The operating class for your typical home station would be "1D", so the exchange would be "1D DX". Should be a good time.... Help- Yaesu G 5500 installation

Hello group, I am planning to install a Yaesu G 5500 rotator with two cross pole yagis for UHF and VHF on a 2.5 mts 43 mm Poly-proplene solid rod to have a minimum droop and seperation. Also intended to use Orbitron with Labjack U12 & piggyback combo. Could some one tell me whether this combo would work and the boom length is sufficient. Though I have gone through some basic information about rotator installation, suggestions and guidelines from experienced people would be of great help and useful to me to incorporate before taking up the work. Andy, Grants explanation of I/Q modulation is excellent. Perhaps your conversation involved using complex sampling (I/Q) to double the bandwidth compared to simple sampling. The usable bandwidth is limited to about one half the sampling frequency (google NYQUIST). When looking at faster convertors you reach a point where doubling the conversion rate more than doubles the cost, or a convertor that fast may not exist. By using two simultaneous convertors, sampling the I and Q signals, the usable bandwidth is doubled. If two channels are available, there is a way to double the data rate without involving the I/Q signals. Of course I am speculating about the nature of your conversation, so I may be way off. AO-51 adjustments

I am working with the satellite to get the Field Day configuration operational long term.. I turned TXB back on during the 1300Z pass. During this pass I adjusted the TX levels to TXA 240 mW and TXB 290 mW. These are lower power levels than I have ever used before, but necessary to get the satellite through the 16+ minute eclipses each orbit. The SQRX receiver uses about 110 mA that must be subtracted from the total TX power used. I think I am close and expect to get the correct settings over the next 24 hours. It is also necessary to change the L/U analog operation to digital over the eastern US in order to download the telemetry to see how the satellite is performing over multiple orbits. 73, Gould, WA4SXM AO-51 Command Station
