To add my comments, I also used the Eggbeaters for 2 years before "upgrading" to small beams on an azimuth only rotor. I did see some loss of signal mid-pass on FO-29, but otherwise anything over 10 degrees at my location was usable on the linear sats. While I have an IC-910, typically its running low power on SSB and CW. Given the lack of activity on the linears sats, you shouldn't have any trouble hitting them with your gear. Hi, I would like to know if I'm dreaming, but will it be possible for me to use these two satellites with my pair of FT-817 running on SatPC32?? Am I asking too much for my 5W only radios ?? I'm using 2 Eggbeater antenna from M²... Hi, Could somebody send me his doppler file for SatPC32 ?? I'm a newbie, and I would like to figure it out how FO-29 and VO-52 are configured in this file. I actually trying to "calibrate" my setup to use those birds. I'm using 2 FT-817ND with SatPC32. Ho yes.... probably easier to solve that way. I got this problem yesterday when editing my doppler file. The problem is your doppler file.... Check if you did not change the ACSII format of the file. Be sure to use colon , and not coma . to seperate each parameter..... an example of a line in my doppler file: AO-51,435300,145920,FM,FM,NOR,0,0,VOICE No coma at all when editing, always colon to separate parameter. Be sure to save in ASCII format. Other mode sometime add unusual control that are not needed and cause the problem. Frequency 145.800MHz 4 to 5 seconds of silent carrier approx 4 minutes into pass followed by a shorter burst of 1 to 2 seconds. 2 seconds of silent carrier approx 9 minutes into pass. Above timing based on Keps which I believe to be wrong. After predicted LOS a further couple of carrier bursts were heard at approx + 2 minutes with a characteristic sound of an intermittent connection. David G8OQW

Or, another way of comparing the cost of $8000 for 3 weeks operation is: TubeSat $8000 for 21 days = $380 per day AO-51 $100,000 for 1850 days = $54 per day. and if it lasts for another 5 years. $27 per day. What a good deal AO-51 was. The space and mass required for the fuel and attitude control system would be prohibitve. CubeSats are better solution for a communications satellite as you get 10 years of 20 minute passes rather than 3 weeks of 10 minute passes. It had some problems, but the ground controllers were able to get it working again. IIRC, it was something to do with the batteries, and being eclipsed. I received my QSL card from the K5E event in the mail today... and I realized that some Thanks are in order. I have never put together an event but from my limited experience in activating grids - it's a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun. Special thanks to Tim Lilley, N3TL for organizing this event. I agree, the ITAR rules are outrageous and have done more harm than good to the U.S.. I received the following from a "Satellite Today" newsletter. It doesn't specifically talk about ITAR but indicates there may be a glimmer of hope when dealing with launches through ISRO...Howie AB2S ---------------------------------- ISRO Hails U.S., India Technology Safeguards Agreement July 30, 2009 | Satellite Today | Staff Writer [Satellite Today 07-30-09] India signed a technology safeguards agreement with the United States on July 20 to facilitate the launch of non-commercial U.S. satellites on Indian launch vehicles, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced July 28. The agreement also includes allowing satellites with U.S. components, previously prohibited on Indian spacecraft, to be launched on Indian rockets. ISRO estimates the total global market for non-commercial launches at about 40 satellites a year. India's contribution to that number has been minor. ISRO said it hopes the TSA agreement will enable India to claim a larger stake in the market. Using Object G as posted by Nigel Sunday (Aug 2nd) and freq 145.827 (plus doppler correction over that), I have todays results as below. At the start/end of a pass mostly POLLUX, and in the middle mostly Castor Most likely this has to do with difference in freq and the sats moving out. Anyone a most scientific view on this :-) ? Sadly, same again, approximately 30 seconds of silent carrier at 3 minute intervals. Latest Keps would appear to be wrong, a signal being received nearly 1 minute after predicted LOS on this and previous pass. David G8OQW
