ITAR sucks

I am also certain White House is much too preoccupied with other things to deal with it. As proof that ITAR has completely outlived its usefulness, I give this example: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/30/science/space/30india.html?ref=space India, denied access to nearly all of our space technology here in the US and even put on denied access lists, simply goes around us and helps other nations build technical capabilities and then orbits the moon with a probe. Our involvement? Continued shooting our industries and technical status in the derrière. Bob

Keps for AO40

Hi All, Just for curiosity I would like to know why the AMSAT WSR-Weekly Satellite Report in Part 3 (3) lists the frequencies of the Non Operational Satellites including AO40 while long time ago the Keps for AO40 has been removed from the AMSAT Orbital Elements for OSCAR Satellites sent from WA5QDG Fort-Worth,TX There is someone that time to time is listening for a possible AO40 awakening ? No working keps for rs-30?

I can't get any working keps for rs-30 into satpc32, it just crashes after what looks like an iterative calculation that doesn't work. This is true for the RS-30 keps today at: http://www.amsat.org/amsat/ftp/keps/current/nasabare.txt and for the YUBILEINY keps (same satellite) just uploaded onto the bb. I assume that either there is something fundamentally wrong with the keps from whatever source, or that the orbit falls outside that scanned by satpc32. any thoughts, guys? 73 de andy g0sfj

hi, i am new to this and have heard alot of stuff that i know is data or telemertry but not sure what kind or mode is TX'ed in the 435-436 mhz area from satellites or know what decoder to use to see what it is, if not in CW as you said some are AX25, PSK, DOKA, CW ..ect really intersting, i found these and hope they help? Possible EM88/EM98 Grid Activation Sunday 20Sept

Weather permitting I will be operating on the EM88/EM98 grid boundary in West Virginia on Sunday, September 20th. The current forecast is a 50% chance of rain so it might not work out for all passes. Although Google Earth etc. can give you some idea of what to expect, you just don't know until you get there and see for yourself. For those in the West, AO-27 at 2022Z and SO-50 at 2319Z will offer the best chances to work me. It will be sunset around the end of the last SO-50 pass. Operations on AO-51 will be on the non-QRP pair, 435.300/145.92. If the grid boundary doesn't work out, I'll focus on finding a spot in EM88 first. If conditions permit, I might then operate from EM98. Hopefully the grid boundary will work out. My progress enroute can be monitored on aprs.fi or findu.com using k8yse-8. There are no digi's near the grid boundary location but you never know until you get there. I plan to have another radio on 145.825 and could be digi'd through the ISS during the 1911Z, 2047Z, 2224Z and 0000z passes. The ISS radio will use k8yse-9. It's about a 4 hour trip each way. There is no need to send or request a qsl card. I will send a card to everyone that I have in my log. EM88 is fairly rare so this should be a good one for grid chasers, especially for those in the western states. Thanks to all of you who have operated from grids away from your home QTH. Hopefully you will benefit from this operation as I did from many of yours. EM97 may be a possibility in October if you need that one. 73, John K8YSE

WD9EWK from DM24 (possibly DM23/DM24), Saturday afternoon/evening

Hi! Another Saturday without work at the office, another quick road trip to an unusual Arizona grid. I will head west toward grid DM24 for the afternoon AO-27 passes, the late afternoon SO-50 pass around 0030 UTC, and the afternoon/evening AO-51 passes on the normal 145.920/435.300 MHz transponder. I think I may have located a spot that straddles the DM23/DM24 boundary in western Arizona, with a good view of the sky for satellite work. If it looks good when I get out there tomorrow, I will park on that grid boundary. The area I'm looking to work from in DM24 or on the DM23/DM24 boundary would probably be in La Paz County, a very sparsely-populated western Arizona county - for anyone looking to work counties via satellite. I worked from DM23/DM24 last year, from a different location on the California side of the Colorado River. In July 2008, I worked from DM24/DM25 further north near Bullhead City AZ and Laughlin NV. Both DM23 and DM24 are rarely heard via satellite, but DM24 appears to be more rare than DM23 in recent years. If you work me an want a QSL card, please e-mail me directly with the QSO details.
