I am out in Southern California - where there are more operators during West Coast passes than possibly any other region of the U.S. I am not bragging, but just pointing out that the possibility for "abuse" is probably greater when more operators are working. But even on Field Day .. and JOTA ... and the weekend passes - I can darned near always "show off" low power sat ops to others during demos and presentations on '51, '27, and '50 ... Short road trip

I'll be headed to Knoxville tomorrow morning, and back on Sunday. None of the grids between EL88 and EM75 are particularly rare, but if you need something along the I75 corridor, let me know by email tonight. I'll also have email while on the road. Hello Paul & fellow AO-7 friends I will be improving my capability to reach out to some European dx. I am adding a preamp on 2M and finally making my CP switching actually work. I have heard 2E1EUB, RN1NW, UA1OEJ, a SM3???, and a very few others. So far my only contact is with Mika-OH8MBN. I would like to increase my satellite array to 40-50 feet. However that is approaching divorce height. My goal is to connect with Eric-PA1TNO in JO22Li, that distance will be 7837km. I must remember, "if this were easy, everyone would be doing it". ND9M Road trip Update #11

We spent the last several days camping in DL88 at Big Bend National Park, about a mile from the Rio Grande River. The riverside campsite we'd been assured three times was ours for the taking turned out to have been destroyed by flooding in 2008; so much for keeping current. But at least our backup campsite was 2000-plus feet inside the line. Six passes were worked from the campsite, another one from the river's edge itself (couldn't resist the photo op!), and three more from the DL88/DL89 line. The only downside to the stay was the last pass on Tuesday (AO51, 16/2355Z) when the FT817ND that I use for RX failed to fire up. After basic troubleshooting and with the bird only five minutes from making its appearance, I broke out the back up 817 that had never been used before and configured it for use just in time. By the way, if my XYL, Cori, hadn't earned her driving stripes after several thousand miles leading up to arriving at Big Bend, she certainly did on the way to the campsite after dealing with what turned out to be a very notorious "Black Gap" roadway. It wasn't until we returned to the park's registration office as we left the park this afternoon that we were told that travelling on that particular roadway was not advisable! Our muffler looks like someone took a baseball bat to it, but at least it's still intact. Tomorrow (18 Feb), we'll backtrack to DL79 for the AO27 which rises at 2018Z. We may stick around for the next AO27 pass at 18/2200Z, but we're not sure about that one. In any case, we'll shoot for operating from DM80 on both So50 (18/2128Z and AO51 (18/2238Z and 19/0016Z). Worked the "three Ps" last night on AO-51 - Palm Springs, Palo Alto, and Portland! About twenty folks showed up for the 5:37PM PST pass of AO-51 - although the real meeting and presentation didn't start until 7PM. My thanks to the Desert RATS club for packin' the house last night - we had a great time! The old and the new: This Friday my "Work-Sat.com" show goes to the Los Angeles Maritime Museum and the K6AA club. They started up in 1925! Spacewalks

I was thinking while watching last nights EVA on the ISS, has anyone here ever tried to intercept the space suit communications during EVA's? I'm not sure what the output of the transmitters are, but with a good system you still should be able to hear 100 - 200mw. Probably a weird digital transmission mode so you still wouldn't be able to tell was they were saying, but that's why there is NasaTV.

The satellite drop down tab and the letters at the bottom right are out on sync. Placing the mouse on a letter bottom right does not correspond to the letter under the satellite tab. Suggestions? Hi Nick. This seems to happen when names or numbers for satellites change in the keps file. The 1530z 16Feb pass of HO-68 over North America had more packet on it than I've ever heard before. I'm not sure that the BBS is working properly but the satellite is sending a lot of packets in response to user requests. Maybe those who are using the BBS can comment on how it's working. Yesss it's works!! I've just worked HO-60 with Software And YESSS No hardware TNC used !! WISP AND MIXW did all the Action via virutal VSPE connector and soundcard. Hi! Later this week, I will have an AMSAT table at the Yuma (Arizona) Hamfest & Emergency Preparedness Show: http://www.yumahamfest.org/ on Friday and Saturday, 19-20 February 2010. The hamfest is at the Yuma County Fairgrounds - east of downtown Yuma, south of the I-8 freeway, and just north of Yuma International Airport and Marine Corps Air Station Yuma: http://www.yumahamfest.org/directions.html Last year's event drew hams from all over Arizona and southern California, along with the "snowbird" population spending their wintertime in the Yuma area and along the nearby Colorado River. Many Mexican hams from the neighboring Mexican states of Baja California and Sonora also visited the hamfest and the AMSAT table I had there last year. During these two days, I will have on-air demonstrations using various satellites (AO-51, SO-50, AO-27, VO-52, possibly AO-7 in mode B) using my callsign WD9EWK if I am able to get away from the table and go outside the main hall at the hamfest.
