Another roadtrip planned

Starting June 9th thru the 30th, we'll be on another vacation roadtrip, and like last year, will be taking the FT-60R and Elk yagi along for working the FM satellites at various stops. The only planned stops are in Yellowstone NP, Cody, WY and Mt Rushmore in SD, otherwise it is driving to other spots that look interesting. Possible other states to visit are ND, MT, ID, WA and OR on the return loop, but that isnt set in stone. There is a possibllity that we'll make a trek into Nebraska, so I can pick up my Gulf Alpha's that are ready, but not sure yet. More than likely I will be on passes early AM or sunrise and early PM or dusk. Hopefully I will be in some grids that are needed by some, and if so, just send me a QSL card (no SASE required) or email and I'll return a card. 73 de John W6ZKH DM06

SpaceX has also reserved a second launch day on Saturday 5 June, with the same hours. As always, weather will play a significant role in our overall launch schedule. The weather experts at the Cape are giving us a 40% chance of “no go” conditions for both days of our window, citing the potential for cumulus clouds and anvil clouds from thunderstorms. If the weather cooperates, SpaceX will provide a live webcast of the launch events, presently scheduled to begin 20 minutes prior to the opening of the launch window. g-5500 EL help

Since my previously reported issues of intermittent Elevation control of my g-5500 where it would work and stop based on heat of the day it has now stopped completely and will no longer raise at all. Can someone point me down the correct paths to start testing where my problems are and if I need to send the controller or actual EL rotor into Yaesu for repair? Is there a good trouble shooting document somewhere? Back to the Arrow for SATs for a while. Does anyone need any specific grids in Michigan I am willing to go activate on the arrow early mornings or nights. Mike Kb8zgl

>From ray w6fya for Elk Antennas Craftsman makes a small strap wrench that I have used to remove elements that were stuck by the use of too strong locking compound. It sells for around $5.00 There should be other manufacturers of strap wrenches that could be used. Apply the strap near the threaded end of the element, not farther than a half inch from the boom. The threaded insert should prevent collapse of the tubing. I recommend not using a pliers, it will chew up the outside of the tubing. Proper use of the strap wrench should apply enough torque to remove the element. The recommendation of the use of copper particle anti-seize compound is good. Any other suggestions ? There will be an AMSAT table at the Hudsonville, MI, hamfest on June 5th from 8am to 2pm. Doug KD8CAO and John K8YSE will be on hand to discuss satellites; AMSAT gear will be available for purchase. If you live in West Michigan, please stop by and say hello. There will be a satellite demo during the hamfest starting with an AO-51 pass at 1203 UTC.
