It is time again for the HV SATCOM Group Net tonight on Echolink N2EYH-L node 429079.We have had trouble with the Echolink connection several times in the past and I apologize for this. Hopefully our club director of engineering has this problem solved now. We usually have a Amsat area coordinator or two check into the net to answer any questions you may have. MSFC's WA4NZD confirms ejection of NanoSail-D sub-satellite

For immediate release: 19 January 2011 Huntsville, AL USA The Marshall Amateur Radio Club (@ MSFC) - WA4NZD late Wednesday afternoon confirmed ejection of the NanoSail-D sub-satellite. This loaf-of-bread sized spacecraft was carried to orbit late last year on an Air Force rocket as part of NASA's FastSat project. This is the first successful deployment of a satellite, launched from a satellite already in orbit .!. The only communication from the NanoSail-D vehicle is via ham radio with 1200 baud FM AX25 beacon packets. The WA4NZD team of N4PMF and WB5RMG, was listening on 437.275 MHz FM with the NanoSail-D Principal Investigator Dean Alhorn at the club station when the beacon was heard and susbequently decoded onto the screen. Feb. Scientific American: Interesting Article on Cubesats

I call your attention to the article entitled "Citizen Satellites" on pages 48-53 of the latest Scientific American (my copy arrived just today). The article is by Alex Soojung-Kim Pang and Bob Twiggs. Many of you know Bob Twiggs as KE6QMD, a long-time AMSAT supporter who is widely known as having been "father" of the Cubesat concept when he was at Stanford. Bob is now a Professor at Moorehead State Univ in Kentucky. Many of you may have met him when he brought several of his students to the 2010 AMSAT Space Symposium in Chicago. You can read about Moorehead's space program at http://ssc.moreheadstate.edu/. AMSAT and OSCAR have a proud heritage in espousing the concept that there is real potential worth to small, "hitchhiker" satellites. Kansas City Tracker with a modern computer?

Hi, I picked up an old Kansas City Tracker, circa 1990, and was wondering if there is any way to use it with a modern computer. It is designed to plug into the ISA slot of a PC. I don't know much about computers, but my understanding is not modern computers no longer have ISA slots. Could it be adapted to plug into a USB port or something that a modern computer has? 73, Bill NZ5N
