TransAtlantic Balloon on 28 MHz ?

Do you have a 10 meter (28 MHz) vertically polarized beam? We are working on a 28 MHz transatlantic Balloon with a CW transmitter on 10m using (of course) a vertical dipole. It will have no GPS, so tracking will be entirely by beam headings and some signal-strength assessment. Just wondering if anyone has a vertical beam. A horizontal beam will be useless for direction finding. All it will do is point to whatever is reflecting the energy into the strongest horizontal component... Hummh... Bob, WB4APR

SMA connectors

Hi guys, My two cents worth- using an SMA to BNC adaptor does not address the mechanical problem of an antenna or a coax flexing the SMA chassis connector- especially the plastic HTs- I had to do a number on my VX5 which is a metal case HT. I'd suggest a pigtail SMA to BNC for connecting to a coax for mobile use (even then I tie the pigtail to the HT case with a rubber band or ??) As for the HT antenna all you can do is be careful or brace the antenna a bit. My 74 year old hands and eyes had quite a time repairing the broken center conductor to circuit board, not to mention just getting to the location. The SMA is a great RF connector for fixed-in-place applications. Nuff said

QSL Cards

Hello all, I just returned from the post office where I mailed all the HI4/AJ5C Satellite contact QSL cards. Look for them in a few days. I know the post office is slowing down with all their consolidations of processing centers. It's crazy. We have a #1 rated processing center here in Harrison, but it is going to close and be consolidated with a below par processing center. It's your government at work! 73, Bob AJ5C

SatPC32: Viewing satellites from different kep files at the same time?

Hi, everyone -- During the fun surrounding the Vega launch, I made a new kep file for the experimental keps and loaded those birds into SatPC32. This got me wondering if my workflow is incorrect, or if I really do need to stop viewing the birds from nasa.all or amsat.txt when using this other file. Am I right in thinking that SatPC32 doesn't provide the ability to view at one time satellites whose paths are defined in two different kep files? 73, Bruce -- http://ve9qrp.blogspot.com
