FITSAT Still Alive over Texas

FITSAT-1 was still transmitting over Texas (EL29) this morning. I first heard the signal at 1209UTC (7/3/2013) . Signal was strong and stable. I am using an IC-910 with M2 436CP30 antenna and Icom AG35 preamp. Antenna is on a Yaesu Az/El rotator. 73, -james W5AOO

Call sign change

Miraculously I passed my Extra Class exam and my call sign is changed from K0BAM to AA0CW. Still in DM68 Ouray County Colorado. So if yall hear this new call on the sats er sat don't go crazy, it's just me. Jim Adams - AA0CW

Birds from Colombia

Well, it was fun (and sometimes equally frustrating) while it lasted but it didn't last long enough. Had a good overhead pass of FO-29 tonight, but once that thing gets down below 40 degrees pointing toward the U.S. the noise gets to be a real PITA. I had on my best ears and some DSP but still couldn't get enough out of the buzzing and whistling to make a complete contact with but two stations. I hate that! Special thanks to Hector CO6CBF who was always on to let me test my doppler and get a signal report before the bird was AOS over the U.S. So it goes. I guess it will be a year before I get down here again, so I have some time and experience to put to use to see how I can make it better. Thanks to all who called, you made my days, just sorry I couldn't make all of yours. 73 Jerry HK5JY about to be N0JY again

I dug out some old books including OSCAR: The Ham Radio Satellites by Dave Ingram, K4TWJ, and OSCAR Amateur Radio Satellites by Stratis Caramanolis, and the AMSAT Journal from December 1974. All three agree that in the Northern Hemisphere, AO-7 polarizations are as follows: Mode B uplink and downlink RHCP Mode A uplink LHCP Mode A downlink linear 435.1 beacon LHCP The turnstile is shared on both 2m and 70cm. Roving on the east coast

I am not sure if this grids are active or not since I have not have the chance to work them yet, but I be portable and active on SO-50 only from 7/10/2013 till 7/15/2013. AO-7 Antenna Polarization

Can someone tell me what type and polarization the antennas are that are currently in use on the AO-7 satellite? I've done many searches and cannot find this information anywhere I have looked. Thanks and 73, Ed, K0NW

Ouch, just checked the price list for the KU LNC MKU LNC 23 TM ATV Converter mounted into water resistant case, in 2320 ... 2450 MHz, 1404 … 1534 MHz IF 216,00 € That is before shipping. If I don't buy litter for the cat in the ham shack this zone will soon become uninhabitable. That is before shipping from over there. Does anyone have options that are more reasonable for a LNC? I would really like to do this project but was a stretch to get just the PCI tuner card. If anyone has another option you may e-mail me off list. Not too technical please, I have not used a soldering iron except to do wood burning for wood crafts as a teenager. Will a US made universal work?
