W1AW/3 in DC Update

Good morning, I haven't been on as many passes as I'd like as I'm juggling other activities and shifts as an HF operator at one of the three stations we have on the air, but I've made 49 QSOs so far as W1AW/3 from the District of Columbia. If you are not in the log yet, I'll be on the 1445Z and 1621Z passes of AO-73 coming up today. I won't be on any evening passes tonight. I'm not 100% sure of passes tomorrow morning, but I do plan to work every pass on Monday and Tuesday after 2130Z, but before 0000Z. It is an article about "space junk". They point to Amateur Radio as one of the leaders in adding junk to the space above, indicating we ignore rules and others don't enforce the rules. If you don't enjoy talking on satellites, then yes, for you, it is spam. For others, I think it is something to be aware of and be prepared to address if in such a position. Not trying to cause harm to you or your computer. Just trying to help save my hobby and others livelihoods. You may ignore it... I meant for it to be read by those that have concern over our future in space. My apologies for that ending up in your mail box. K8YSE Western Grid Expedition wrapup

Our western grid expedition has come to an end. We traveled 7300 miles from Cleveland to Mesa, Arizona, which is normally a 2000 mile trip. Operations took place on AO-7B, FO-29 and SO-50 in 27 different grids. We didn't plan to go all the way to the Pacific coast in Washington but circumstances changed so we altered the route. We camped as time and weather conditions permitted and we saw the beauty of the country we live in. I would say that 75% of the visitors we saw in our National Parks were foreign travelers. Weather conditions ranged from 32F to 90F. We had a whiteout snowstorm in Glacier National Park due to a polar vortex sweeping in. The road through the park was closed. We experienced rain, thunder, lightning, hail, wind and fog. A thunderstorm hit Bryce Canyon on our way out and water was pouring off the sheer cliffs onto the road; quite the sight. Except for one problem with a weak battery, every attempted pass was successful. It's very difficult to work in a large number of grids when we don't have that many birds operational. Hopefully that will change soon. A Journal article will be written about the trip. There are many ways to do this kind of expedition but it helps to hear about what works and what does not. A special QSL card will be designed for the trip. As mentioned in an earlier post, you can send individual cards or a log excerpt of all the contacts you made. Be sure to indicate which grid I was in for each contact. Cards will go out in December. Thanks to all that got on to work me. It makes it all worthwhile when there are a lot of callers who need the grid your operating from. And a special thanks to Frank, K4FEG, for posting updates on my operations. 73, John K8YSE/7

I am actively in search of a video produced by Connecticut Public TV in the mid 70s, "Oscar and the Ham" it was commissioned by ARRL and served as supplemental material for use with Talcott Mountain Science Center's curriculum guide Space Science Involvement. Thanks for comment! Satrack does not need nor uses external programs or drivers. Tries helping receive/operate satellite, showing which are now or coming. My apologies to all. I assumed folks would have the intelligence to see where the article came from by reading the link (a rather popular magazine at that). Also, my name, call sign, and phone numbers were very much present in the original posting. I've apologized once for "assuming" it would be obvious... AND admitting that Assumption was a very bad mistake on my part. Including the assumption that most folks know to open links in a 'sand box' for safety concerns if concerned. I never intended to cause harm or waste so much bandwidth on this rather concerning subject. I just simply wanted to bring the concern to light before we really got a suprise. As in, I was only trying to be helpful. I now am very well scolded by half the folks here on the list it feels (off list)...... Please forgive me! I'll be glad to remove myself from this list if that is what it takes to appease the group. Or the moderator can do it for me considering the harm I've caused. .... Yes, that was sarcasm.
