2.4 GHz converter

I have a receiving converter that converts 2400 MHz to 144 MHz that is basically brand new. This is a UEK-3000 and is designed to be remotely installed. I got the converter from someone ,not local, who told me that the converter was for the 2304 MHz band. Unfortunately, when it arrived, it was for amateur radio satellites at 2400 MHz and not for the "weak signal" portion of the band. I did check the performance with my HP-8616 signal generator and a good level CW signal was detected at -130 dBm or 0.07-microvolts running through a 2-meter converter into a 10-meter receiver. The performance of the HP-8616 has not been verified since I obtained the signal generator about 3-months ago and I cannot guarantee the absolute accuracy of the attenuation pad in the unit. However, the converter definitely does work! If anyone is interested in the converter, I am definitely open for trades. Although the converter sells for a pretty good amount of money, I would rather trade because, that way, both sides are satisfied and one doesn't wonder if they paid too much or got a REALLY good deal! Thursday Morning May 1 Pete W2JV reported "The downlink was strong at 16 degrees at 13:39 U, I heard CO6CBF, well done to the team." Hector CO8CBF/KF5YXV posted "LituanicaSat-1 was sounding very good over the Caribbean (Cienfuegos EL92sd, Cuba). Nice signal for just 150mw! I heard Pete, W2JV and worked Frank, K4FEG. I was running just 5W into an ARROW antenna. Congratulations to the LituanicaSAT-1 team!" Thursday evening May 1 Paul N8HM reported "The transponder was indeed on for the 2140Z pass over North America. I heard a station in DN45 (I guess it was WC7V) right as the satellite came up above about 10 degrees (lots of buildings and trees in the way), worked AC0RA, but there was some difficulty getting into the satellite with just 5 watts and an Elk antenna, and then I heard and half-worked WB3CSY (probably not a valid QSO) before I lost the bird at about 12 degrees. I also heard the ID and greeting about halfway through the pass. "The signal is a few dB down from SO-50 and the uplink receiver is definitely less tolerant of being off frequency. My best signal into the bird was in narrow FM while tuning for Doppler on the uplink. At TCA, an elevation of about 55 degrees, the downlink signal was S9 on my FT-817s meter. SO-50 is usually S+ above 35 degrees here. "My station here is two FT-817s, an Elk Antenna, and a High Sierra Microwave LNAA432 preamp. I was having some desense issues and further inspection revealed a nick in my feedline as the probable cause." Roland PY4ZBZ posted the posted this report as the satellite passed over Brazil. This means it should be in Mode B daily for the next 16 weeks or so. Frank k4feg explains, Typically what this means is that the satellite will lose all power and by default go into "Start-Up" mode every time it comes back into the sunlight. Typically Mode B or C are the 1st mode of operations and the loss of sunlight prevents mode switches to A. Predictions had shown that the eclipse would occur either May 1 or May 2, depending on the orbital model you used, and May 2nd over the USA, AO-7 was in mode B. I have calculated the end of the eclipse cycle but I will update satellite information to assure a more definite date for AO-7 to go back into full sunlight. Hi Greg. Yes, the satellite has the transponder on for the whole orbit this weekend until around 20:30 UTC Sunday Looking at the red graph from the telemetry, you can see the power consumed is the same in eclipse and sunlight. The peaks in the red graph are due to the transponder being used. curious why you couldn't hear yourself. - Although there is a 10kHz offset on the 70cm uplink and for me it does go at the horizon. Can't hear -5 degrees here. Telemetry beacon was at about the predicted 145.935 +/-, and I was listening between 145.950 and 145.970 (and beyond both edges for Doppler) for other stations (none heard). While listening on 145.960 I tried transmitting around 435.140, +/- about 20khz; nothing returned. Antennae are "Oscar class" CP beams, with an RX preamp at the rotor, and full Az/El computer control. Radio tuning was manual. Not important for this pass, but I did notice that I could copy the beacon to -5 degrees (below the Southern horizon), with freshly updated keps. Balloon Found (and OOps!)

Crowded Air space today over PA! Saturday morning, launched the Naval Academy Balloon (W3ADO-11) from Harpers FY and noticed two other balloons launched about the same time (W3EAX-9 and 11) about 40 miles north. All was going fine until... Our sincere apologies to MD, VA, PA, DE and NJ! At about 3000' our balloon Arduino processor got stuck in a reset-loop and switched from 1 minute rate to one packet as fast as it could re-boot. Less than every 2 seconds! Fortunately they were direct only and at 100 millliwatts. Fortunately, we could still see some packets from the W3EAX balloons, and APRS.FI seems to have copied them all. Then ours went nuts! and appears to have come down very fast, and we raced to towards the impact point (20 miles away), but then 20m later, we got one packet at 38,000 feet 20 miles farther east. Then another race though Amish country and to our horror, the last position report was within 0.1 mile of the river and still at 2000 feet and heading right out to the middle! We were about to give up the search (no more packets heard and river current pretty swift) when our back up system (SPOT system?) gave another report about 60 feet from the water. Low an behold, there it was, 60 feet from waters edge after having flown almost 100 miles. Everything intact includeing HDTV video camera! Apparently the students used a non-high-altitide GPS and it went squirrely until it got back below 38,000 feet. But you should see the track (W3ADO-11) Bob, Wb4APR

Delfi-C3 6th birthday and still working

Hi all, Delfi-C3 has celebrated its 6th birthday on the 28th of April. The spacecraft is still operational, telemetry only, on 145.870 USB Delfi-C3 has exceeded its mission lifetime by six times now, and on-board telemetry still does not indicate degradation in performance. So far, our distributed ground station network (DGSN) has collected 2037513 frames as of today, received by 376 registered radio amateurs and many more on the guest account, using the free RASCAL software. This would not have been possible without your continued support. Thank you! Please note that the original team of students has long graduated, and delfi-c3 operations are done by very few volunteers. Hi! I just saw a new Wouxun KG-UV8D HT here at the hamfest in Sierra Vista AZ. Its FCC ID number is WVTWOUXUN07. I looked that up on the FCC certification database: http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid/ That database had photos of another Wouxun HT, not the UV8D. Wouxun could have tweaked the older radio to make it capable of full-duplex operation, but doesn't that mean the new radio should have gone through the FCC certification process?
