Another FCDPP AO-85 telemetry observation

Quick share-- For the FCDPP (Funcube dongle pro plus)---This morning I looked closely at the baseline noise level in Foxtelem. It was quite high, around -50 or so. Since I can't adjust LNA or Mixer (both forced ON in Foxtelem), I went to the Recording Devices Control panel, and adjusted the audio level there---from about 25 (used in all my other SDR programs)---down to 4, so my baseline is about -75. That seems to have helped a good bit, and even unattended on the first pass tonight I see it grabbed 35 or so frames. That's good, since this morning it got ONE. Anyhow, those of you running FCDPP might check that out... 73, Mark L. Hammond [N8MH]

Your description sounds like you caught Fox-1a in high speed data mode. We are still doing some commissioning so expect mode switches without necessarily hearing any warning. If it sounds like "an old fashioned acoustic coupler" (and if you are old enough to know what that sounds like :-) try switching FoxTlm to high speed mode. For high speed mode you have to be especially careful that there is no LOW PASS filter in the path. You need 10KHz or more audio band pass. To follow up on this, I tried more telemetry decodes on two passes last night using the TS-2000 and no combination of settings (1200/9600, FM audio filters, 48K, 96K, 192K input rates) resulted in decodable data using either the RigBlaster Advantage or laptop's built in sound card (Mic input). I'm going to call the audio out of the TS-2000 unusable for this. Apparently, some low frequencies are being filtered regardless of the settings. Thanks, Brad Schumacher 307-631-6436

FOX-1A / AO-85 FM Voice Ops

The world has NOT changed overnight with the new AMSAT-NA Fox-1A / AO-85 satellite: When it is announced that it is in FM transponder mode, we do NOT call "CQ"on the satellite, as I have read elsewhere. Best source for operating sample techniques? seems there was a lot more deep-fades. Made decoding a bit more lengthily. Is she spinning? The "Eye" sometimes had a difficult time holding the proper, what I believe is, proper form to make a decode. A previous pass was the high-speed and got nothing off that with my Funcube That "FOX-1A Computer RT Battery 12c "FAIL "" is that an issue up there? This pass I fooled around with the Win-7 sound device settings for the FCDP+ .. I thought I might be seeing some flat-topping on the Sample view of the first tab. It was set at 100. I was able to get down around 15 and still decode. Left it about 90 . For unattended operation, should I set "Find Signal" ? I have frequency set to 145960 . track doppler (x) was Find Signal but I am not sure if this is desirable. Patrick, This is what I use on my Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines: http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Cable/ About 1/3 of the way down the page is the downlink. This will create new audio Playback and Record devices named "Cable Input - VB-Audio Virtual Cable" or "Cable Output - VB-Audio Virtual Cable" Cable INPUT is for PLAYBACK and Cable OUTPUT is for RECORDING.
