Hi, I need to make some changes to the services which support the data warehouse and there may be some outages between 10:00 and 20:00 on Sunday 15th Feb. Specifically I am moving from Tomcat to Glassfish as the web application server to enable better long term control of the system and from Java 7 to Java 8. I will try to limit these outages to when the satellite is over the Pacific. 73 Dave, G4DPZ

K1N Sats QSOs

Hello to all Congratulation to all station made QSO wit K1N. I tried morning and aftenoon pass days agi. NIL The morning pass in better for South South American stations the mutual visibilty are 3 to 4 minutes but the afternoon are 1 min to seconds. I'm not sure they attention to very low pass in AOS and LOS. This morning I could not be on radio. I will be this afternoon an tomorrow and the Sunday also. 73 de Juan LU2DPW - GF05gi

ATV-5 Undocking on Web Streaming

ESA Space News reports that web streaming will be available (in French and English) when ATV-5 undocks from the ISS. Live coverage via CNES begins on 14 February, Saturday 14:00 Central European Time (CET is UTC + 1). Coverage via NASA begins at 14:15 CET. Colorado Amsat net checkins 2/12

When connected to the East coast reflector, I get quite a few check-ins, but dont' do anything with them, they just sit there. Great to hear so many stations working K1N on FO-29. I worked them on the 2008Z pass and listened to the 2151Z pass. K1N - Worked at 2011 UTC Wed- Check on the next pass

After my long list of instructions, K1N showed up on the east coast pass of FO-29 this afternoon and was listening almost exactly on his own frequency. I managed a QSO by ignoring all my previous advice (!). Only a few stations were on. I'm guessing that he will be on during the next pass (AOS around 2150 UTC). Good luck and Good DX to all. I'm looking into a different approach - USB extenders that use Cat-5 or better cables. For home use, Cat 5 is MUCH cheaper than decent coax, even if I have to replace it periodically from exposure or errant lawn mowers. And ZERO possibility of transmitting directly into it (probably still have to protect against 3rd harmonics when operating mode VU). As an interim test, I used my usual LMR400 into the shack, then the dongle and a coil of about 50ft of cat 5 and the USB extenders. Seemed to work well receiving AO73 telem - no worse than dongle straight into the PC. Need to try it again with the dongle at the antenna. Goal would be a weather proof enclosure and as close as I can get the dongle to the antenna. Bought the cable and extenders from Monoprice; don't recall the model. This approach would work well, I think for portable ops, too. Maybe without extenders, just a long USB cable.
