You've got it right, Paul. If there are a lot of callers, the satellite's power has to be shared too many ways, especially since many of those callers won't stop calling even when the DX station is transmitting :-( I've made lots of low-power QSOs too, but I don't use SSB. CW works better for me. 73 Ray W2RS

Paul, As I see it, at least three things would help the next satellite DXpedition 1. As you said, the DX operator should get familiar with satellite operating before going on the big DXpedition. 2. The DXpedition needs a strong signal to be heard clearly. 5W to an Arrow produces maybe 25 W peak EIRP on 145 MHz, and if SSB then no more than 5-10 W average. That's not enough for an analog sat, especially if there are a lot of callers. 3. The practice of DX stations operating "split" is well established on HF but is virtually nonexistent at VHF/UHF, where simplex operation is the norm. Many satellite ops have little or no HF DXing experience. They need to learn. Hope this helps. 73 Ray W2RS

There is a report on Twitter that ARISS SSTV is being planned for PD180 mode images starting Feb 21 at 10:00 UT and ending on Feb 23 at 21:30 UT. funcube dongle

Got my Funcube Dongle PRO + today and was wondering about the consequences of transmitting into it. No I haven't done it yet, but in the past with such devices you operate on a system that requires you tx on 2 banks alternately this will happen. How do I know this? In the AO-40 days I think I replaced the front end in my 2.4 gig downconverter at least 3 times. It wasn't so bad after the first time, after I ordered several replacement chips to fix the one I fried in the frontend of the Drake D/C. I see the Funcube is sealed so I must ask, has anyone had the misfortune to do this? Or does anyone have a protection scheme to share? 73 Jeff kb2m

Is anyone using this type of setup? I have a system built but not much luck until my new antennas arrive. Got it setup to work with Orbitron for doppler correction. Jacob Tennant WF8S
