Tonight (11-Oct) I'm staying in DM93 and will try to work several passes from the DM93/83 grid line outside Lubbock, Texas. I can also work a few passes in the morning by request. The next night (10-Oct) I'm staying in in DM82 (New Mexico) and will travel down to the DM81/82 line for a few passes. I will only do the grid line Thursday evening but can do DM82 Friday morning for anyone who needs it. Each year, ARISS provides tens of thousands of students with oppor- tunities to learn about space technologies and space communications through the exploration of Amateur Radio. The program provides learning opportunities by connecting students to astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) through a partnership between NASA, the American Radio Relay League, the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation and other Amateur Radio organizations and worldwide space agencies. The program’s goal is to inspire students worldwide, to pursue interests and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through Amateur Radio. Educators overwhelmingly report that student participation in the ARISS program inspires an interest in STEM subjects and in STEM careers. Ninety-two percent of educators who have participated in the program have indicated that ARISS provided ideas for encourag- ing student exploration, discussion, and participation, and 78 percent said that ARISS was effective in stimulating student interest in STEM. ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. Students can learn about satellite communications, wireless technology, science research conducted on the space station, what it is like to work in space, radio science, and any related STEM subject. Students learn to use Amateur Radio to talk directly to an astronaut and ask their STEM-related questions. An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at The Alice Smith School Primary Campus, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 11 Oct. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 15:24 UTC. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and 9M2RPN. The contact should be audible over portions of Malaysia and adjacent areas. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The Alice Smith School, established since 1946 in Malaysia is one of the oldest British international schools in Asia. The school is a not-for-profit educational foundation situated on two campuses. The Primary Campus is at Jalan Bellamy and the Secondary Campus on Jalan Equine. The Alice Smith School follows the English National Curriculum with a strong international flavour. In 2011, the school was one of the first in Asia to be fully accredited as a British School Overseas by the Department for Education in London. 'Excellent' was the grade given in the most recent British Schools Overseas report for both the Primary and Secondary School Campuses by Tribal, a DfE approved inspectorate. Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows: 1. Were you afraid when you first launched into space? 2. What is the most interesting object that you have seen from the ISS? 3. Is space a good place to live? 4. When you wear your full spacesuit, what happens if you get an itch? 5. How do stars look like from the ISS as compared to from earth? 12. What is the temperature of the interior surface of the windows in the ISS? 13. Is there a doctor on board in case a crew member falls ill? 14. Do you think space tourism will become a future reality? 15. Do you observe national holidays and weekends in space? VUCC-R SAT!!

After 6+ years of casual Roving, I finally made it to VUCC-R Satellite! My friend John K8YSE, who got me started on this, was the QSO that put me at #100 when he called me on SO50 yesterday at the EN72/73 Line. Thanks to John and everyone else that put me in their Log on SATs to reach this goal. More to come since my joy is to give "new ones" to fellow SAT Ops. 73, Bob K8BL

FS: Jetstream dualband yagi

I have for sale the Jetstream JTBM270 dualband yagi. It has 3 elements on 2m and 5 elements on 70cm on a 3 3/4 foot long boom. The elements use wingnuts to attach to the boom which makes it very easy to assemble and disassemble for portable operations. I have used it on the satellites from my home QTH with good results. These sell new for $80, I am asking $50 shipped, and will include a N male to SO239 connector as this yagi uses an N connector. I can take paypal/check/mo. 73 John AF5CC
