Hello bird peoples, I'll be venturing to HP74 in the morning (Friday 7/7). This grid has only a tiny sliver of land in it. My must-work passes are: 1208Z FO-29 1313Z SO-50 1358Z FO-29 Planning a fixed transmit of 145.940 on FO-29. In case of QRM (lids, EO-88 beacon, etc), I'll plan to move down. When FO-29 goes to polar bear country on the early pass I may QSY to AO-7 if I'm not getting any more customers. AO-7 of course needs to be in mode B or C (overhead pass in EU, who knows), but it has good footprint to the US, but the QSY assumes I'm not working anyone further on FO-29. There are some other passes on various birds while I am there, I may get on randomly or can get on by request. There are some good looking SO-50 passes later which will cover most of the Eastern US and Europe that I will plan to be on, although I cannot guarantee grid (likely not HP74, probably 84 or maybe 94). With that being said, it is a three hour drive to the HP74 in the morning and I need to get a bit of sleep for this one. I'm gonna go ahead and call it QRT for the day. To those on the west coast who still haven't worked me, I'll get on more of the late-night western passes in the coming days. Find a decent horizon, seriously. You have a rover in TF who can work the horizon and I happen to be here during apogee season, this is a rare opportunity to work Europe from the North American west coast, try not to keep blowing it. As far as future plans for the trip, I am looking to get back to HP93 and hopefully IP03 (maybe IP04 also). Possibly a grid line (dare I say, a corner). I'll try to get on some NA bound passes from these, possibly even FO-29 on Saturday morning. Howdy all, In case anyone was looking for one of these gems, there's a E4406A w/ the baseband inputs on eBay for an amazing price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Agilent-E4406A-VSA-Series-Transmitter-Tester-7-MHz-… I suspect this unit is in perfect shape, judging from the displays pictured. If anything, the input RF connector (N) might have some damage which is not obvious, but that's easily replaced. I snapped up the first one. :-) --- Zach N0ZGO

QRZ Now, which has 180k followers on Facebook, shared it to their page and the livestream consequently reached 189 viewers simultaneously. Also, SO-50 had a max elevation of 80 degrees for me in Cary, North Carolina, almost straight up, and since it was right over the east coast of the United States (the most populated part of the U.S.), It was a busy and exciting pass. Tanyusha 1 (RS6S) heard over southwestern USA earlier today

Hi! It looks like Tanyusha 1 was activated on schedule today, as I heard it on 145.800 MHz as the ISS passed over the western USA around 1918 UTC today. This was a very high pass over central Arizona, maximum elevation of 62 degrees. As I tried (unsuccessfully) to work stations on the 145.825 MHz packet digipeater with my TH-D74, I used the audio recording function on the HT to capture the signals on 145.800 MHz. My recording would momentarily cut out whenever the HT transmitted, but I only missed the identification before one of the 3 messages I heard. According to the ARISS press release from last week, Tanyusha 1 transmits messages in Russian, English, Spanish, and Chinese. I copied 3 of those 4 messages, missing only the Spanish message. Before each message played, the satellite would identify itself in English, "Romeo Sierra Six Sierra". I have posted links to the recordings I made in a post on the QRZ satellite forum earlier this afternoon. Little Cayman EK99/FK09 SO-50 and FO-29 paases

Happy July 4th! I hope everybody is enjoying a wonderful day enjoying festivities, friedships and fireworks. Someone is going to owe me a couple of big steaks and a few cases of decent beer after this adventure!! I have had multiple requests to make it to FK09 and I managed to secure a ride to the EK99/FK09 line here on Little Cayman for the next two nights. I am returning to Grand Cayman on Thursday the 6th at noon time. Assuming no issues with the equipment, (it is very hot and very humid here) and assuming the mosquitoes stay away after some heavy DEET action, I plan to get on the following passes this evening and tomorrow evening: SO-50: 0123Z to 0135Z July 5thFO-29: 0203Z to 0222Z July 5th I know Sean KX9X/9 will in on SO-50 at the same time. I will defer the early part of the pass to him. Tomorrow: SO-50: 0148Z to 0201Z July 6thFO-29: 0253Z to 0313Z July 6th I anticipate SO-50 will be tough. Please, please make sure you can work full duplex if possible. The last time I operated from FK09 many years ago it was mayhem on SO-50 and few stations managed to get through. I had a great couple of passes on FO-29 from Grand Cayman a few days ago and I really appreciated the very orderly contacts during that pass. I hope we can do the same again this time.
