Yep, a great opportunity for someone to write code to check the ARISS.NET and pcsat.findu.com downlink pages and check for last heard packet from RS0ISS, from PSAT. If it is from PSAT-1 then it is only beacons. If it is from PSAT itself, then the digipeater is on. Though rather than randomly scarfing those pages, it might be more efficient if maybe the FINDU.COM page originated the status report to the AMSAT page every 2 hours. http://www.amsat.org/status/ But on the otherhand the page now is all manual and so it not only reflects the reported status it also shows the interest shown by the number of hams that take the time to report it. If PSAT and ISS DATA were automatically updated, then they would show solid bars of reports, and no one would bother reporting, and we would not see if anyone cared enough to update it? Besides, Steve just lives it when I suggest things for him to do... ;-) Bob, WB4APR

SSTV via AO-85

If you sent a SSTV image via AO-85 this evening about 2238 UTC, I just want to let you know that someone (i.e. me) received it. Unfortunately, it wasn't clear enough for me to identify the sender. I can see "CQ AO-85 SSTV de SPACE COMMS" and I can see that it is a picture of someone's face, but I can't make out a callsign. It is reasonable to assume that the lack of resolution in the image I received is due to the minimal receiving set up on my end. I like Experimenter Wednesday. It gives me another radio challenge. Joe's new duties will include implementation of AMSAT-NA's Strategic Planning. He will continue in his other duties as 2017 Space Symposium Chairman, AMSAT News Service Co-Editor, ARISS-NA Education, and Educational Relations until new personnel can be appointed or the task assigned is completed. Under the AMSAT ByLaws, the position of Executive Vice President is one of seven senior officer positions that are approved by the AMSAT Board of Directors. Included in the ByLaw stated duties, “the Executive Vice President shall act in the place of the President in the President's absence, and shall have such other duties as the Board may determine.” [Bylaws, Article II, Section 5B]. Joe is a Life Member of AMSAT-NA and has served in Educational Relations during the past six years. We will be putting in a new UHF ground station in Fairbanks next week and would appreciate any suggestions as to what sats to listen for when testing the downlink capability. 435 - 437 or 450 downlinks. They need to be polar-ish, Fairbanks is 64.8N. Jim

At the risk of inviting plenty of negative comments, but for the sake of experimentaion, I wonder if someone mkght want to try to make some CW contacts on the PSAT PSK31 HF transponder. THe problem is if there is other 10m PSK31 activity, the terrestrial users would not like to see CW in the PSK31 band. But if no one else was on, it wouldnt bother me if someone wanted to experiment with CW via the PSAT uplink. But if there is no one on PSK31, then the transponder wont come up... SO eitehr one of the experimenters needs to key down a PSK31 signal so others could send the CW. Or one person could try keying CW using their PSK31 carrier and then key that so that the 31Hz auto-key-up would bring the transponder up. I hate to admit that I don't listen enough to know if this is a dumb idea or not. Hello I am working on a little project here It is a raspberry Pi, that is connected to the APRS-IS and will eventually also take in user reports as well It is on my static ip http://59.167.159.165/ It is called "Satellite Reporter" It is intended to provide a dashboard, stats in graphical format and also data streams. Please let me know if you want any features added as this project grows. I see a user input screen and drop downs for satellites. I will make an iPhone and Samsung compatible version. The back end is MySQL and PERL and CGI I will add ISS for the time being, please check back often for updates. I think it best to use UTC times for the time being. Andrew VK4TEC
