I never would have considered a preamp with the Baofeng. But it's an interesting concept. Comparing my 2AT to the UV5RA is like comparing night to day. Even with a simple dipole mocked up with a BNC to Banana Post adaptor, most passes are solid with little fading or drop outs. Coupled with my HTX404 and a pair of Lindys should make for a really good station.

I agree about the Baofengs being somewhat deaf. In the past, I was able a few times to work SO-50 with the UV3R that I used to carry...and recently the UV5RA and dual-band whip has been used during the day while I'm out working. I thought that AO-91/92 sounded pretty good. That is, until I hooked up my 40 year old IC-2AT to my turnstile. AMAZING how well the ancient Icom can hear. Who knew?! KB2HSH

Unsuccessful Uplinks - AO-92

I’ve just started playing with talking on satellites. I’m able to hear all the satellites (AO-85, AO-91, AO-92 and SO-50) that I have programmed on my Kenwood TH-D74, which I use with my Elk dual band periodic log antenna. However no one can hear me or responds to me. I’ve only been successful with my uplink (being heard) on AO-91 on several passes. I triple checked my frequencies on my radio and the 67 Hz tone and they are set as follows: Sat. Xmit Tone SO-50 145.850 67.0 Hz AO-85 435.170 67.0 Hz AO-91 435.250 67.0 HZ AO-92 435.350 67.0 Hz These are the frequencies used when the bird is at its peak. I adjust for doppler on 440 by starting out 10 khz less, e.g AO-85 435.160, 435.165, 435.170, 435.175, 435.180. Any ideas if something has changed from what is published or am I missing something? Like I said, i’ve been able to communicate on AO-91. — Hugo Dominguez, Jr.

Rotor control with SatPC32ISS

Long-time SatPC32 user but new to SatPC32ISS. Rig control works fine, but I can't get rotor control working in SatPC32ISS. Guessing that SatPC32ISS is not launching the rotor control server SatPC32 uses. Suggestions? Does SatPC32ISS default to the same config file as SatPC32, or does it default to Confguration 1? (I'm using Config II with SatPC32). Have not found anything (yet) in the SatPC32 docs. Thanks, 73 Steve KS1G

SATPC32 reinstall issue

All, I recently (today) had to reinstall SATPC32. I was getting the following error on start up: Ungultiges argument zum Codeieren des Datms. If I clicked OK the program would open, but with a blank window. Move on if I try to open the Satellite menu, the following error popped up: E/A Fehler 6. So Anyway, I save my data, uninstalled, and reloaded (Upgrading while I was at it), restored my data. Same thing is happening. Any Ideas? I'd like to get things running by Field day. IC-9100 USB driver issues with WIN10 PRO ver 1803

I'm having an issue with the USB drivers for my IC-9100 WIN10 1803 setup that I'm setting up for FD. Odd thing is I have it working on other WIN10 PC's running 1803. Is anyone having the same issue? I'm trying to setup an HP Spectre PRO x360 G1 i7 laptop. I've tried all the fixes online and none seem to work. 73 Jeff kb2m

Thanks to all those who are roving to grids that are rarely on the birds. They are doing most of the work! EDITORIAL: Excuse the bandwidth. I took a little detour from chasing grids to try FT8 on 6 meters. What amazed me was the quickness of QSLs on LoTW, often finding the QSL awaiting when I uploaded my QSO. Why are the FT8-ers so fast compared with my experience on satellites. My guess is that FT8 QSOs are done with computer software with logging capability. But that can't be the entire reason. Most of our wonderful rovers are extremely fast getting their audio recording logs uploaded to LoTW. So motivation has to be part of the solution. Satellites can be worked without computer assistance, but Doppler control, pass prediction and logging make the activity more enjoyable for me. Some of the rovers should publish their procedure for logging to LoTW. Most logging programs will upload to LoTW. Even the TQSL program for LoTW handles hand-input parameters. And LoTW is the easiest way to apply for ARRL Awards. Perhaps my disappointment after working a needed grid and not getting an LoTW QSL can be relieved. 73, Ron W5RKN
