I have made numerous AO-85, 91, 92, and SO-50 contacts from my truck, mostly while stationary due to the desire to log the contacts, with a 25 year old Kenwood TM-733a (~25 watts) and a dual-band antenna on the roof of the truck. Even a simple 2m quarter-wave works fine and offers a decent match on 435 MHz. The feature that helps the most is the radio's full duplex capability. Hopefully I’m the only one who received a defective copy of the latest Journal…when I get to page 8 the pages start again with the front cover thru page 8! It’s missing pages 9-24. Yaesu 5400B Problems

Thanks so much to everyone for the links, manuals and info. I'm going to look at it again with fresh eyes tomorrow on the bench with a short piece of cable. Visual inspection of the inside of the control box doesn't show anything suspicious. I'll report back tomorrow if I can get this old dog going again. 73, Rick, W2JAZ

Yaesu 5400B Issues

I thought I had found the problem with my old 5400 EL rotor when I discovered shorted wires at the terminal due to those awful old screw type terminals. Unfortunately after installing it the summer QTH I found that EL rotation worked only in one direction. I could use some help trouble shooting this as it could be in the control box or at the rotor and I have no manual with me. It could be that I'm off the air this summer in terms of satellite operation. 73 Rick, W2JAZ

EL84 next weekend, sats and 6m

One week from today, Robert KE4AL, Rich N4ESS, and myself, NJ4Y will be on Garden Key, EL84np in the Dry Tortugas. Robert and I will be active on all amateur satellites, while Rich will be operating HF CW for the grid chase. I will also be on 6m FT8, SBB and CW for as long as my batteries hold up. We will be arriving on the island mid-day on Friday July 6, staying all day Saturday, and then leaving Sunday morning July 8. We will be using the callsign K4R, and all logs will be uploaded to LOTW after the trip. Paper cards will be available on request via NJ4Y. The K4R QRZ page is up to date with our info, as well as k4r2018.com. We will also be able to tweet via a satellite messenger from the island, to our public twitter account at twitter.com/k4r_EL84. Our goal is to work anyone within ~7500km who needs EL84 on satellites. Weather sat imaging

To get images from NOAA weather satellites I have been using an RTL-SDR with SDR# software and the WxtoImg decoding program. This has worked successfully for a couple of years. I use the VB virtual audio cable to connect SDR# to WxtoImg. But about a month ago I had to reinstall SDR# as it wasn't working. I think it may have been due to an update in Windows 10. So, SDR# is working fine, but since the reinstall of SDR# I can no longer get viewable images in WxtoImg. The pictures look they have been through the shredder. I tried the slant correction and the resync as described in the Help section, but it didn't fix anything. It looks like a sync problem, but if the resync doesn't fix it, I'm not sure what to try next. I know these aren't amateur radio satellites, but I'm hoping there's at least a few of you out there who are downloading weather satellite pictures and can help me out. All reasonable suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Steve AI9IN
