This is the second call for speakers for the AMSAT-UK International Space Colloquium 2018 which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 13-14 at the Kents Hill Park Conference Centre, Timbold Drive, Milton Keynes, MK7 6BZ, United Kingdom. EN84 activation Monday June 25

Look for ops AA8CH and WW8W to be active from EN84 on Monday June 25th. Tentative plans include XWs in the 1300 hour, and the morning (our time) AO92s and the CAS4 passes. We might try AO07 and FO29 as well. Transmission on linears will be fixed frequency and tuning for callers. Bring your SAT gear to work with you if you need this grid. RF power required for linear satellites?

Hello AMSATers, I’m wondering if 5 watts is generally sufficient RF output to work the common linear satellites using a handheld satellite antenna (Arrow or Elk)? For example, would an FT-817ND (or the new FT-818) suffice for the uplink radio, or would you need an amplifier with those 5 (6) watt radios, or just a more powerful radio such as the FT-857D? Initially I planned to use N1MM+, and got it to work alongside SatPC32. N1MM & SatPC32 : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1lDiocYrz92OnfL1F0rttKhBOhfz68ShP However after reading old posts in the AMSAT-BB archives, I decided to log everything in a spreadsheet. And thanks to Erich, DK1TB, for enabling DDE in SatPC32, it makes things easier, the spreadsheet integrates with SatPC32 to grab the Satellite Name, Up/Dn Frequencies, Modes and Time. Then I can export the spreadsheet log as an ADI file. ( Since my other laptop does not have MS Excel, I ported it to Open Office Calc too. ) Spreadsheet using SatPC32 DDE : SatPC32_Logger.png I'll be using the club call KU6S for FD. 73! I don't mind paying for good software, especially if I can use it for my own satellite logging later. Or if an Excel spreadsheet is truly the best option then I'll consider that. Field Day Logging

Our club uses N1MM+ with the HF stations networked. I run a stand alone copy that is never connected to the network or to my satellite radio. I assign one band to each satellite/band and manually switch "bands" at the start of a pass. This let's me manage dupes on each satellite and see where I have been working someone. After field day, I export the log to a spreadsheet and remove the dupes per ARRL rules, this info goes to the person sending in our log. Works for me and I don't mess up the FD network. I haven't checked if the N1MM dx-satellite mode accepts the FD exchange instead of a grid. It doesn't distinguish between satellites, so no dupe checking in real time. Steve KS1G

Hi Folks, AO-73/FUNCube has just been switched mode, so that the transponder is now ON full time. This is to support Field Day this coming weekend. It will remain in full time transponder mode until at least Sunday PM (UTC). You may also wish to try UKube-1 and EO-88. W3OK - Field Day Sat operation and demonstration..

For this upcoming FD I will again be working Sat’s and giving demonstrations signing W3OK from the Delaware-Leigh Amateur Radio Club FD operation located in FN20 in Northampton County, Pa. I expect to be working linear birds only. FO-29, AO-7, XW’s, And both CAS’s. Steve NS3L

Upcoming ARISS Events

All, Several upcoming ARISS events: ARISS-Russia, in collaboration with the Southwest State University in Kursk, Russia, are developing a series of educational CubeSat satellites called Tanusha. Two Tanusha CubeSats were developed by students at Southwest State University and were hand-deployed by cosmonauts during an August 2017 extravehicular activity. These two CubeSats are performing cluster flight experiments through communications links. A second set of CubeSats, Tanusha 3 & 4 were launched earlier this year and are currently on-board ISS. Tanusha 3 & 4 are planned to be hand deployed by Cosmonauts in August. They will perform even more comprehensive cluster flight objectives than Tanusha 1 & 2. On June 20, Tanusha 3 will be connected to one of the ARISS Service Module antennas and will transmit from 0730-1200 UTC on 437.05 MHz. These FM transmissions will include greetings from students in several languages, including Russian, English, Spanish and Chinese. On June 21, Tanusha 4 will be connected to one of the ARISS Service Module antennas and will transmit from 0730-1200 UTC on the same frequency: 437.05 MHz. The ARISS-Russia team plan to also retransmit these signals on the standard ARISS 2-meter downlink, 145.80 MHz using the JVC Kenwood D700 radio that is still on-board ISS. All are invited to listen to the CubeSats from ISS on 437.05 and/or 145.80 MHz. The next SSTV image downlinks are planned for June 29-July 1. These images will commemorate the various satellites that the ARISS team has developed and hand-deployed from the ISS. These will include the first satellite deployment from ISS: SuitSat-1/Radioskaf-1 which was deployed in February 2006. More details on this will be forthcoming as the date draws near.
