Reservations at AMSAT Symposium

I now have reservations at the Marriott in Huntsville, AL, but I did encounter one difficulty. I wanted to stay on one day after the AMSAT Room Block expired (5 November). The on-line sign up would not let me do that. I called the Hotel and was able to extend my stay but I had to do it at normal Hotel rates beyond the AMSAT Block that expired on the 4th. I was able to negotiate a reduced rate but not as good as the AMSAT Block rate for this additional day. 73 - Keith, W5IU

"Moon Day" satellite passes Saturday 7/21

AMSAT Will be represented at a large space themed STEM event at the Frontiers of flight museum in Dallas this coming Saturday. "Moon Day" will feature astronomy and space themed exhibits from many organizations from our area here in North Texas. Special speaker will be NASA Astronaut Douglas Wheelock, KF5BOC most recently on ISS Expedition 24. https://www.flightmuseum.com/moon-day/ Keith Pugh, W5IU, Mac Cody, AE5PH, Jay Cox, KG5BZW and myself, N5HYP will anchor the AMSAT presence at the event from 10-4P CDT We will have an opportunity to talk about amateur radio and especially amateur satellites to upwards of 1500 families and young people from all over. Most all of them will be non-hams. We will be doing contacts on all the FM satellites between 10AM and 4PM CDT using a shared call sign, W5FC, thanks to the Dallas Amateur Radio Club, our neighbors in the indoor exhibit area. Thanks also to Joe Spier, AMSAT president for loaning the Fox satellite mock up for display. It WILL be hot with a projected Dallas record high of 110 degrees so we won't be outside for long each pass but if you do hear W5FC from EM12 Moon Day, give us a shout please. I am sure Patrick Stoddard has done hotter passes, but this should be close. 73 and see you on the birds tomorrow. Tom, N5HYP

There are a few quirks with the site. However, I have found a work around that will satisfy everyone. You have the option of one King Bed or two Double Beds. You can choose how many adults and children. Just not off the first linked page. Please follow these tips to make it work right for your needs. I also added these instructions on the amsat.org Symposium page. 73...bruce Instructions for booking your room. Firefox blocked several of the features on this page. Try Internet Explorer or Edge, they worked fine. First, click on the link or copy/paste. You will be presented with one option... a King Bed with one person. Next, choose the dates for your stay. After that, click on Check Availability. This will allow you to choose either one King bed or two Double beds. After choosing the beds, click on Edit that appears under your check in and out dates and below the number of rooms and guests. Kansas City Tuner/Tracker Board

Cleaning out shack and found a Kansas City Tracker/Tuner board and 3.5" floppy with software. Board stencil reads "LLG02 Rev D" and has "6912" (a serial number?) handwritten on the solder side. Parallel port interface and fits in one of the old full height PC slots (16 bit?). No idea if it works. No floppy drives so I can't check if the disk is readable. I think I bought this used in early-mid 1990s. In excellent cosmetic condition (kept in a static bag in a box in climate-controlled shack for the past 2 decades+!). Photos of board on request. Physical ballots were mailed only to those members without email addresses on file. Members with emails on file got a link to the contractor's (SBS) online voting site. Voter participation in the few contested ARRL elections during that cycle plummeted, and the cost was pretty much a wash (it costs money to do electronic voting securely). The difficulty is that an email directing voters to a voting site is easily lost in the noise compared to a paper ballot received in the mail. This phenomenon is not uncommon; the same thing happened when the Virginia State Bar implemented online voting around the same time, with the same vendor. ARRL abandoned electronic balloting. VSB has kept it, and has dealt with declined participation. There are merits in both approaches, but the argument that electronic balloting is better and cheaper is fallacious. Rotator display needle problem

I recently picked up a Emotator EV700X elevation rotor.. Everything works fine, the rotor rotates on command via the control box,.. All lights work . There is one major problem,, The indicator needle does not move although the rotator works. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be ?? I don't believe this EMotator is being produced any longer. The rotatpr itself is built like a tank and works great. The shaft for the needle indicator is not turning at all .. Thanks for any help... Hello, A few years ago, I identified a bug in the HID implementation on the FCDP+: http://www.funcubedongle.com/?page_id=1073#comment-72288 I'd like to work with Howard to fix this, as it causes lock-ups on both macOS and FreeBSD when using the FCDP+ and gqrx. (Short summary: Reading a HID report endpoint should always return the most current report, even if that contains no data. This is why using HID as a general-purpose data transfer mechanism is A Bad Thing. Shame on Microsoft for encouraging people to use it that way.) Thanks, --- Zach N0ZGO

Dear All, I have been advised this morning that 1KUNS-PF is not transmitting images (confirmed from telemetry received this side) over Kenya and that the camera is off except when over Europe controlled by the Italian Ground Station.. The Kenyan Ground Station promised to inform me when it will be available in the region, some of us here are eager to received the pictures (me surely).
