Ever have one of those nights where everything just went weird in front of an audience? Well, MICROHams in the Puget Sound region was the "recipient of weird Clint" tonight. Although I have truly never given the exact same show twice - as each is customized to the group to whom I am speaking - I pride myself in having it fairly well "scripted" and under control. And always allowing for questions any time. And although the club president Grant WB7WSD (former ARRL Northwestern Division Vice Director) just emailed me ... "Thanks again for a great presentation and a lot of laughs tonight! People had a great time. I can see why your program is so popular. You and Karen are quite a team and have quite a good routine!" ... so it looks like all went well. But attendees know otherwise. It started as pressed a wrong button within Zoom. Not sure what occurred. Been Zoom-ing for more than a year. But I couldn't get up and running. Thank goodness my wife, Karen (she handles the Chat Room) was on the call - and kept the assemblage entertained while I sweated out the Zoom stuff. Then the Chat Room exploded with downright hilarious banter ... Oh, and then we had a "Getting Started" satellite presentation ... (g) Their Q&A kept us going for almost two hours. We had a great time. Got a new member for the club - Glenn plans to join this week! Forgot from where he was calling ... but was a first-time attendee there specifically for the satellite show. ARISS is thegroup that puts together special amateur radio contacts between students aroundthe globe and crew members with ham radio licenses on the International Space Station (ISS). This will be a Multipoint Telebridge Contact via Amateur Radio between the ISS and students fromLycée Jean Moulin. Students will take turns asking their questions of ISSAstronaut Thomas Pesquet, amateur radio call sign KG5FYG, during theARISS radio contact. French is the language that will be used for thiscontact. The downlink frequency for this contact is 145.800 MHZ andmay be heard by listeners that are within the ISS-footprint that alsoencompasses the ARISS radio telebridge station. ARISS team member David Payne, using call signNA7V in Portland, Oregon will serve as the relay amateur radio station. Each student asking a question onthe ARISS radio will be conferenced in from home or social-distancedat school. TheARISS radio contact is scheduled for May 20, 2021 at 10:38 am CEST (LesAndelys, France) (8:38 UTC, 4:38 am EDT, 3:38am CDT, 2:38 am MDT, 1:38 am PDT). Lycée JeanMoulin (LJM) is a rural, vocational school with about 1000 students ages 15 to20 years. Students in the local primary and junior high schools will alsoparticipate in the ARISS contact. The school also offers internship opportunities in theaeronautics and space industry. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is March 31st, 2021. Proposal information and more details such as expectations, proposal guidelines and the proposal form can be found at www.ariss.org. An ARISS Introductory Webinar session will be held on February 25th, 2021 at 8 PM ET. A few days ago, AMSAT's web servers were under attack from multiple malicious IP addresses. This forced a shutdown of the Fox Telemetry server as well as general slowdowns of our web server. As a result, we upgraded to a paid premium version of Wordfence to better defend our web presence against attacks. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is March 31st, 2021. Proposal information and more details such as expectations, proposal guidelines and the proposal form can be found at www.ariss.org. An ARISS Introductory Webinar session will be held on February 25th, 2021 at 8 PM ET.
