Hello, The CAMSAT CAS-5A amateur radio satellite will be piggybacked on the Smart Dragon-3 Y1 launch vehicle and launched from the sea launch platform in the Yellow Sea at UTC 06:35:02 on December 9. ARISS News Release No.22-65 Dave Jordan, AA4KN ARISS PR aa4kn(a)amsat.org FORIMMEDIATE RELEASE ARISSContact is Scheduled with Students at Stella Maris College, Gzira, Malta December8, 2022—Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) has receivedschedule confirmation for an ARISS radio contact between an astronaut aboardthe International Space Station (ISS) and students at the Stella Maris College locatedin Gzira, Malta. ARISS conducts 60-80 ofthese special amateur radio contacts each year between students around theglobe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboard the ISS. Stella Maris College is part of a network (La Salle Malta) of LasallianColleges that include De La Salle College and the Mellieha Retreat Centre. LaSalle Malta was founded as a single school in 1903 by the Brothers of theChristian Schools and is now the La Salle Malta’s Lasallian Colleges, run bythe Malta Trust of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Stella Maris College ishosting this ARISS contact for participating students in grades 5 through 10(ages 9-15 years). Stella Maris College has partnered with members of the MaltaAmateur Radio League (MARL) (9H1MRL) who will provide support during the ARISScontact. Members of MARL have also made presentations to students about amateurradio, and demonstrated satellite tracking and talking to other hams throughamateur radio satellites. As a member of MARL, Stella Maris College haspreviously operated their own amateur radio station. Members of otherorganizations that are also part of educational activities surrounding thisARISS contact include; the University of Malta, the Malta College for Scienceand Technology, Malta Council for Science and Technology and Malta College forArts, Science and Technology. This will be a direct contact via Amateur Radio allowing students to take turns asking theirquestions of Astronaut Koichi Wakata, amateur radio call sign KI5TMN. LocalCovid-19 protocols are adhered to as applicable for each ARISS contact. Thedownlink frequency for this contact is 145.800 MHZ and may be heard bylisteners that are within the ISS-footprint that also encompasses the relayground station. The amateur radio ground station for this contactis in Gzira, Malta. Amateur radio operators using call sign 9H1MRL, willoperate the ground station to establish and maintain the ISS connection. Kenwood TS-2000 - FalconSat-3

Has anyone on the list used a Kenwood TS-2000 to communicate with FalconSat-3? If so, can you pass along the menu settings that work? I'm using a borrowed TS-2000 and am still in the learning phase on the menu settings. The audio chain is working with local packet at 1200bps consisting of a DigiRig, using UZ7HO SoundModem and EasyTerm. For FalconSat-3 the chain is DigiRig - UZ7HO hs-soundmodem - G0KLA PacSatGround. Based on my interpretation of the hs_soundmodem waterfall display I'm seeing no data from the TS-2000 when attempting FalconSat-3 communication. I'm certain I have a menu configuration problem and am looking for suggestions. FalconSat-3 does not have long to live, predicted to de-orbit in February and is now active for 24 hours or so on the weekends. Any assistance will be appreciated. Jim McCullers WA4CWI

Missing Sat name for 47853

Hi all, I have never seen this message before. This morning I went to update the Keps in Nova and I got an error message for a missing sat name for sat number 47853. When I updated SatPC32 I did not get an error. The sat seems to be located in the Stations.txt file that I downloaded from Celestrak but the sat name was blank. Has anyone else noticed this? Anyone have an idea for the sat name? I did do a quick search and it seems to be called ISS DEB (EP BATTERY) but I am not sure if Nova wants the full name or part of it or something else. ARISS News Release No.22-64 Dave Jordan, AA4KN ARISS PR aa4kn(a)amsat.org FORIMMEDIATE RELEASE ARISSContact is Scheduled with Students at British School in the Netherlands (Junior School Leidschenveen), The Hague, TheNetherlands December6, 2022—Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) has receivedschedule confirmation for an ARISS radio contact between an astronaut aboardthe International Space Station (ISS) and students at the British School in theNetherlands located in The Hague, The Netherlands. ARISS conducts 60-80 of these special amateurradio contacts each year between students around the globe and crew memberswith ham radio licenses aboard the ISS. The British School in the Netherlands (Junior School,Leidschenveen Campus) is an international primary school composed of a studentbody with ages 4 to 11 years and who represent 43 nationalities. In preparing for this ARISS contact, theschool incorporated space exploration/technology into its STEM curriculum. In addition,students have been working together on space-related projects andage-appropriate activities. Students are learning about radio communicationsand what it is like to live and work in the ISS and the training required. Intheir STEM program, first year students have been learning about space relatedchallenges such as building robotic arms like the Canadian-made robotic arm (Canadarm2)installed on the ISS. Students are also being supported by the school’sspecialist Science and Technology Lab. Guest expert speakers have alsopresented different aspects of space-related topics two of which included the spacetrash (space debris) orbiting Earth to the science-fiction writings of JulesVerne. This will be a direct contact via Amateur Radio allowing students to ask their questions ofAstronaut Josh Cassada, amateur radio call sign KI5CRH. Local Covid-19protocols are adhered to as applicable for each ARISS contact. The downlinkfrequency for this contact is 145.800 MHZ and may be heard by listeners thatare within the ISS-footprint that also encompasses the relay ground station. The amateur radio ground station for this contactis in The Hague, The Netherlands. Amateur radio operators using call sign PE1RXJ,will operate the ground station to establish and maintain the ISS connection. GreenCube IO-117 via Direwolf?

Hi folks, My digital station is built around a Raspberry Pi 4B. While in theory I could try running the UZ7HO Modem in Box86/Wine (VARA is supposed to work there, for example), I would much prefer to run native on the Pi, with Direwolf being the software of choice. Is there a way to configure Direwolf to respond to the GreenCube tones? Thanks, Greg KO6TH

Gpredict and IC9700

Hi. I'm having some issues running Gpredict with an IC9700 using Hamlib as the interface. I wonder if anyone has a solution or any ideas? It seems Gpredict is unable to receive or send data to the radio. I have the Hamlib programme rigctl working OK. When I run it alone I can use the command line to send and receive data from the radio. e.g F 435910666 will change the radios frequency via USB without problems. I'm using the following in the shortcut and it seems to work. rigctl.exe -m 3081 -r com6 -t 4532 -s 115200 However, when running Gpredict, I cannot get any radio commands, so no Doppler tracking etc. I've used the Youtube guide by VA2CST, but clearly I've made a mistake somewhere. It looks like Gpredict is not talking to rigctl. Any help appreciated. Trying to get onto IO-117 before the radiation kills something. 73 David G0MRF

The satellite project is managed by the S5Lab research team at Sapienza University of Rome, and involves ENEA (the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) and University of Naples. The satellite carries environmental and thruster payloads and as well as a 70cm digipeater for amateur radio use. At the request of the GreenCube teams, AMSAT hereby designates the satellite as Italy-OSCAR 117 (IO-117). We congratulate all the involved teams, thank them for their contribution to the amateur satellite community, and wish them continued success on this and future projects. Several individuals have blogs describing their operational set up that enables them to take advantage of the great DXCC and VUCC opportunity: Burt DeMarcq, FG8OJ, offers some nicely detailed instructions and good advice on his blog at: https://bit.ly/3FjqM1f. Greencube / IO-177 problem

I've been tracking Greencube all week and while I can hear the bird well and decode packets but I'm having very little success with transmit. Out of at least 100 attempts I think I've had/seen 4 replies. I think I should be seeing my own packets being retransmitted by the bird but I do not. I'm using an FT-847 with the audio interface connected to the TRS port for AFSK. I've used the same radio and interface for terrestrial FT8 on 2m and 432 with no problems. The antenna is an 11 element m2 yagi which, along with an 8 element m2 2 meter yagi, is the same array on an az-el rotor that I use for other satellites. I'm running the new version of SatPC32ISS, UZ7HO's SoundModem V.005b and GreenCube Digipeater V0.15. Doppler tracking seems stable and the received audio is centered around 1500hz on the waterfall. I've tried a couple different sound cards and experimented with transmit audio level thinking that I might be overmodulated. I've also tried power levels from 10 to 100 watts and I've tried adjusting the TXDelay ins SoundModem from 400 ms to 1000 ms. At this point I am at a loss and don't know what to try next. Given the difference between connections with geostationary satellites and leo or meo, wouldn't it be appropriate to distinguish diplomas between geo, meo and leo? To reach 100 grid with QO100 is far less difficult then the same with leo! Pietro I2OIM
