In the last two decades, over 1,400 contacts have connected more than one million youth using amateur radio, with millions more watching and learning. ARISS is constantly pursuing educational opportunities that inspire student interest and outcomes. ARISS-USA is pleased to announce that the ARRL Foundation awarded funding for the first year of a two-year project called the “ARISS *STAR* Keith Pugh Memoriam Project” with *STAR* being the acronym for Space Telerobotics using Amateur Radio. The ARRL Foundation very generously provided $47,533. The project honors the memory of highly-respected Keith Pugh, whose call sign was W5IU (Silent Key, May 2019). He was an expert supporter of ARISS for many years, a star ARISS Technical Mentor assisting schools with their ARISS contacts, finding educators who might be interested in learning about ARISS, and going to schools to lead youth in a variety of lessons about wireless radio technology. ARISS *STAR* (short for ARISS *STAR* Keith Pugh Memoriam Project), is a brand-new education program that will enable US junior high and high school education groups to remotely control robots through digital APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) commands using amateur radio. Year 1 focuses on systems development and initial validation of *ARISS* STAR, and Year 2 focuses on evaluation and final validation. Systems development and evaluation will be led by university staff and students who will undertake hands-on-wireless and telerobotics lesson development, learn about Amateur Radio, and support the development of the *STAR* engineering hardware and software. Next, youth teams will be selected to experiment and critique *STAR* telerobotics scenarios along closed courses and radio lessons. Some participating students will want to prepare for, and earn, their amateur radio licenses, using ham radio to learn and practice concepts in radio technology and radio communications. Overarching goals for *STAR* are to improve and sustain ARISS STEAM educational outcomes with youth. Robotics is gaining popularity among youth and adults alike. Telerobotics adds a wireless accent to robotic control. *STAR*, therefore, gives ARISS a new educational dimension to attract the attention of more education groups and their students and educators—outreach that promises to attract new audiences. The ARRL Foundation was established in 1973 by ARRL, The National Association for Amateur Radio ®, and advances the art, science and societal benefits of the Amateur Radio Service by awarding financial grants and scholarships to individuals and organizations in support of their charitable, educational and scientific efforts. As it has been noted in older posts, both satellites offer voice communications in FM and data retransmission in FSK or AFSK up to 2400 bps, such as AX.25 or APRS frames. They also transmit voice beacons in FM with the callsigns AM5SAT and AM6SAT, as well as CW, and, in the case of Hades, SSTV live images too. We thank you in advance for trying to receive their signals and of course for trying to use the repeater. EASAT-2 one will be automatically active 30 minutes after the launch although it would be a priority for us trying to have some telemetry frames first to check if all is working properly. I tell you a bit more about the satellites: EASAT-2 has been designed and built jointly by AMSAT-EA and students from the European University of Degrees in Aerospace Engineering in Aircraft and in Telecommunication Systems Engineering, with contributions from ICAI in the communications part, and it incorporates as an experimental load a basalt material from Lanzarote, similar to lunar basalts, provided by the CSIC research group on meteorites and planetary geosciences at the Institute of Geosciences, IGEO (CSIC-UCM) and that could be used as a construction material on the Moon. This project was promoted and has the collaboration of the ETSICCP (UPM). The UNESCO world geopark of Lanzarote and the Chinijo archipelago has been used for different investigations as an analogue of the Moon and Mars, also including the training of ESA astronauts. The selected basalt material meets the requirements to be used as a simulant of the existing basalt on the Moon. The purpose of the experiment is to determine its evolution in space based on periodic measurements of some of its properties. Although the experiment is limited and constitutes the first phase of this type of study, it represents an important milestone as it is the first of its kind to be introduced on such a small satellite. As for Hades, its payload consists of a miniature camera module that outputs the captured images as an audio signal in SSTV mode. The SSTV formats it uses are compatible with Robot36, Robot72, MP73 and MP115. The design of the cam module is based on the one used in the successful mission of the PSAT2 satellite, an amateur radio satellite of the United States Naval Academy and the Brno University of Technology. This camera has been operational since June 25, 2019: (http: // www.aprs.org/psat2.html). The camera chip is the Omnivision OV2640, which provides a resolution of up to 2M pixels and compressed JPEG output. The resolution is limited by the internal memory of the CPU (MCU) that controls the camera to 320x240 (typical) or 640x480 maximum. The MCU selected for the control is the STM32F446RET6, which has the smallest possible footprint with connection to a DCMI peripheral, necessary for the connection with the camera. Images can be stored in 2MB serial flash memory. The complete SSTV encoder has managed to be implemented on a 4 layer PCB with dimensions of only 38x38mm. The MCU can be fully controlled from ground stations. The firmware allows the sending of live camera images, images previously saved in flash memory, or images encoded in ROM. It also provides PSK telemetry and imaging advance scheduling with current status (event counters, temperature, voltage, light conditions, etc.) and a brief summary. The described module has been developed and manufactured in the Department of Radioelectronics of the Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic. Both hardware and firmware designs with the source codes will be available on Github under the MIT license (https://github.com/alpov/SatCam). As noted, initially only the EASAT-2 repeater is active. Hades one will be activated by remote control a few days after launch. ARISS News Release No.22-27 Dave Jordan, AA4KN ARISS PR aa4kn(a)amsat.org FORIMMEDIATE RELEASE ARISSContact is Scheduled with Students at Istituto Comprensivo Tolfa, Tolfa, Lazio, Italy April27, 2022—Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) has receivedschedule confirmation for an ARISS radio contact between astronauts aboard theInternational Space Station (ISS) and Italian students at the IstitutoComprensivo Tolfa in Tolfa, Lazio. ARISSconducts 60-80 of these special amateur radio contacts each year betweenstudents around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboard theISS. Istituto Comprensivo Tolfa, an urban primary and middle school(student ages 8-14 years) in Tolfa is about 70 Km north of Rome. Theschool’s three-year curriculum focuses on the improvement of language skills,both in Italian and in English, and on STEM competencies. During the lastthree years, students have taken part in the projects: ESA (“Send your drawinginto space with Cheops”); ASI (sending mission ARTEMIS-inspired drawings to theMoon); and INAF (learning about the effects of light pollution). In preparationfor the ARISS event, students participated in activities drawn from ASI – ESA andNASA materials and were introduced to space-related technology and spaceexploration. These activities allow students to focus on what it’s like to bean astronaut, and the high-tech fields involved in space exploration and theISS. One such activity allowed primary school students (age 8-10) to work onISS-inspired scratch projects and middle school students took part in the AstroPi Challenge - Mission Zero. Members of the local amateur radio organizationinvolved the students in activities about radio science and demonstratedoperation of the radio equipment that will be used in the ARISS contact. This will be a direct contact via Amateur Radio allowing students to ask their questions ofAstronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, amateur radio call sign IZØUDF. LocalCovid-19 protocols are adhered to as applicable for each ARISS contact. Thedownlink frequency for this contact is 145.800 MHZ and may be heard bylisteners that are within the ISS-footprint that also encompasses the relayground station. The amateur radio ground station for this contactis in Tolfa, Lazio, Italy. Amateur radio operators will use the call sign IKØWGFto establish and maintain the ISS connection. Istituto Comprensivo Chieti is an urban school in Chieti with about1,000 students ages 4-14 years. The school’s STEAM program includes lessons andprojects for students at every grade level in the school. Previous school yearshave engaged students in robotics, and enabled students to participate in theINDIRE project (coding and robotics). Students have also participated in projectESA "Zero Mission- Astro Pi", and in 2021 met with ESA Astronaut LucaParmitano. The last valid telemetry signals of MIR-SAT 1 (worldwide) was received in Mauritius with the UoM ground station by YOG-3B8 (Dr Yogesh Beeharry, Lecturer of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Mauritius). Yogesh, member of this forum led a team of UoM students who build their own ground station. This was at 01:36 Hrs local time this morning and JA0CAW (Tetsu, an experience Satellite HAM) confirmed to me by mail that no signals was received from MIR-SAT 1 at 05:03 (MRU time). More many other regular reporting HAMs confirmed to me that no signals received from our bird today. This confirms that MIR-SAT 1 re-entered between 01:36 and 05:03 Hrs and probably burned up around 110Km in a blast of flame, unfortunately the location is not known as mainly over oceans during the time window. I also confirm that a few minutes before last observation from Yogesh that I received the TLM of MIR-SAT 1 and also made successful Digipeats through it (see attached screenshot), the bird was at about 160km altitude at that time, this was my farewell to MO-112. Final assembly of a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket began Wednesday with the hoisting of a first stage booster onto a mobile launch platform at Cape Canaveral, kicking off a campaign to prepare for liftoff May 19 on a delayed unpiloted test flight of Boeing's Starliner crew capsule. ULA's ground team raised the Atlas first stage off its trailer transporter, and a crane lifted the rocket into the Vertical Integration Facility Wednesday morning. Help identifying mystery antennas

I was asked to help ID two possible satellite antennas by a fellow club member; he was storing them for another ham (now SK). The antennas have no identifying manufacturer labels or model numbers. (The bar code visible on the 2M antenna is from the U-bolt plate.) Appears to be a 5 el 2M and a 10 el 70cm, circular polarized, the elements are mounted above a square boom. DE looks like an insulated from boom split element fed through a balun and semi-rigid feedline. I'm guessing some long-gone manufacturer, or an import or a well-constructed homebrew from a published design, and not M2, HyGain, or Cushcraft. SATPC32/SATPC32ISS com port issue on IC-9700

SatPC32 is giving me a com port error: "Could not open COM8 for Radio 1!" It was previously working and there have been no config changes on the computer or the radio. What's stranger, if I run SatPC32ISS, there's no error and it controls the radio normally. I have switched back and forth between the two programs in the past without error, so not sure why all of a sudden I have this issue. Things I've tried I've rebooted both the computer and the radio, same result Computer is Win10 -- recent update broke something? COM8 is the correct CAT port for the 9700 as verified by running with SATPC32ISS as well as HRD, Win4Icom, etc. No other software that connects to the radio is running at the same time as SatPC32 or SatPC32ISS. I've run SatPC32 as the first program after a reboot. I reinstalled SatPC32 to make sure I have the newest version (12.10) - same results. AMSAT-INDIA Conducted Two Days Amateur Radio Workshop at PDEU University, Gandhinagar – INDIA

*Dear Hams,* Full featured Two Days Amateur (Ham) Radio Workshop was conducted by Rajesh Vagadia VU2EXP (Regional Coordinator, AMSAT-INDIA) on 5th & 6th April 2022 at renowned PDEU University (Gandhinagar – Gujarat) INDIA. Highly interested 40 Students of EC & ICT (plus faculties) dived in the fascinating World of Amateur Radio for two days. Total 8 hours of packed program was scheduled, on day 1 from 1330 to 1730 & for day 2 0900 to 1300 (all IST time). On day 1 (5th April 2022), step by step I covered History & Introduction of Amateur Radio, Operating procedure, Modulations, Bands & Frequency allocations, Morse Code, RST Systems, Phonetic, Q-Codes, License Grades, Procedure to obtain Ham License etc. I always encourage students to ask their doubts at any point of my presentation, and with such practice I really get a number of interesting questions which I enjoy to answer all. I tried to convey the real image of Ham operators Life - how Ham Radio is involved in our daily life. Students have been crazy when I said, a bachelor male operator is free to roam here & there and hence he’s known as VFO, but when he gets settled (after marriage) he is known as Crystal Controlled (Universal fact)! Also they wonder to know how we ham community extends our respect to even 75 year old female operator by mentioning them as Young Lady (YL). I explained how we use different numbers like 59 & 73, but warned not to use random figures like 88 for any YL as you might be in trouble (hi..hi..). All phases of life from being a Harmonic, OM, YL, Fundamental, Silent Key etc terms are part of radio operators’ life! A good collection of Radio stuff was carefully displayed for the benefit of students, which includes, HTs, VHF/HF Base, PSU, Cables, Connectors, Adaptors, SWR / Power Meter, Frequency meter, L/C meter, NanoVNA, Dummy Load, Sound Card Interface, RTL-SDR Dongle, CPO, Morse Key, Electronic Keyer, Paddle, Fox hunt tape measure Antenna, GP Antenna, Telescopic Antenna, Dual Band Yagi Antenna, IOio Antenna, Attenuator, Offset Attenuator, Cube Satellite Model etc. Also I displayed my IC-705 SDR QRP Rig with LiFePO4 Power pack for various Demos! All EC & ICT students really enjoyed & learnt the feature/functioning of most of the displayed stuff by trying it themselves. Additionally hundreds of my QSL cards, Log Book, Call book, various Awards, Ham Radio study books and interesting articles were kept on display which was thoroughly observed by students. They were amazed to see NASA QSL for Juno flyby experiment, Japan & German research center’s QSL from Antarctica, Awards for ARISS SSTV event and many more from IOTA, FD etc activation. I explained how we can send and receive paper QSL Cards very economically via QSL Bureau worldwide. Highlighted our ARSI’s QSL Bureau services from India. All over first day was fully packed with lots of learning, enjoying radio stuff & clearing dozens of doubts of students. I got nice support from my family ham members VU3EXP Sakshi Vagadia & VU3GLY Priyesh Vagadia who accompanied me from my QTH Rajkot. On day 2 (6th April 2022) we started our workshop at 0900. We had planned a series of practical demonstrations on this day. Initially I presented roles & objectives of various Ham organizations like AMSAT, ARISS & ARRL and informed how giant efforts are made by these organizations to promote Amateur Radio Satellite Activities, Encourage School Students towards STEM, and offering the ultimate knowledge base for radio hams. Also highlighted AMSAT-INDIA’s activities and its contribution of two Satellites VO-52 & AISAT. We gave an idea on how ARSI represents the interests of Indian Hams before national & international regulatory. GIAR Club was also recognized for their excellent Emergency Communication support to the State Government during natural calamities. We have gracious presence of GIAR ham members’ incl. VU3IKI Ke Ke, VU3DVA Dipakbhai, VU3VDC Vitthhalbhai & VU3HXS Dhirenbhai at the workshop. I presented how students can be engaged with ARISS ISS SSTV Events by receiving sstv Image with simple RTL-SDR Dongle & small homebrewed yagi antenna. We gave a live demo of the student's SSTV Image transmission & reception with the help of two stations installed in the venue. Participants were wondering to see the Picture being transmitted in audio format & received/converted back to Student image. Thereafter Morse code demo was carried out which was equally interesting for Students. I randomly asked the student's name & generated his code with paddle & electronic keyer, the name was decoded by the software and projected on the screen! Students were taught the importance of Morse code (SOS) even for emergencies, though advised not to use codes during college exams! hi..hi.. For the Digital Communication demo, I invited students & faculties to send me a few messages. I converted those text messages into PSK31 audio signals & transmitted from station one, second station received & decoded each message mentioned with students’ name. It was fun to view student messages/ feedback projected on a big screen. Also briefed on various digital modes Ham operator uses. Students then very well understood why Ham Radio is also known as the oldest Social Media, by seeing all such techniques we use since decades, that too without any mobile network or internet !! Our Satellite Communication Demo was scheduled at 1047 (IST) with AO-91 Cube-Sat. The reason to choose this bird was suitable pass time & very good elevation of 63 degree, two days back we already checked this bird & it was functional. I already requested a few VU Hams to respond & support our Sat Demo. All students & faculties get assembled at Rooftop by 1030. I used a pair of HT, IOio Dual Band Antenna and Tracking app in my simple setup. I explained various terms of satellite & basic procedure of operation to the group. All the students were very curious to see how a tiny cube-sat of 1.3 kg extend long distance communication within its footprint. I connected a wired (bluetooth) speaker with a bit of a long cable so the group can hear Reception. But as some of us have experienced, Murphy strikes at the last moment and my speaker failed just before appearing of AO-91 !!! There was no time for troubleshooting, I immediately used my headphone to avoid the audio loop, as it was my full duplex configuration. Two minutes later I could hear a strong signal of VU2LBW Lucky, I copied him 59, exchanged reports and established a successful Sat QSO. Lucky was really loud & clear with his decent setup. I was willing to let faculty/student experience this live contact, I ask Lucky to address & respond again and I handed Headphone & Mic to Prof. Jigar Shah, Lucky patiently talked with him conveyed his Callsign, Handle & QTH Bangalore (MK82TV), Prof. enjoyed the live demo and responded well. We also gave a chance to one more student girl; meanwhile I was continuously tracking the satellite & aiming the antenna towards it. Before LOS I heard another good Station VU2UUU Kaustav Saha from Gurgaon (ML88NK), I worked with him too with 59 reports. So it was a semi successful Satellite Demo as I could not allow all students to listen to ongoing (Rx) conversation. But participants were very happy to learn the complete procedure; they were thrilled to witness the potential of amateur radio satellites. Later on Lucky VU2LBW favored me by sharing our Sat QSO recording, which was circulated amongst all students for reference & memory! At 1100 there was short tea break, participants were so enthusiastic that even in leisure time they been to radio stuff exhibition area to have closer look and learn more on devices like NanoVNA, CubeSat (model), Morse Keyer/Paddle, Signalink USB, RTL-SDR dongle, Icom IC-705 etc, I enjoyed interaction and satisfying their queries. We were towards the ending session. I presented what are the interesting events radio amateurs enjoy & carry out globally, which includes Sp. Callsign Activation (highlighted my activated call AT1JCB), Field Day, Contests, Light House operation, IOTA (illustrated AT2SL), JOTA, Hill Top, Fox Hunting (ARDF), High Altitude Balloon Deployment & Tracking, EME, ARISS SSTV & Student outreach Program, SatCom, Satellite Telemetry decoding, Radio Astronomy, Meteor Scatter, Ham Fest etc. I conveyed objectives & brief procedures of all these events into which Radio Hams love to be engaged. Participants learnt that Amateur Radio is much more than a Communication device! I always promote Ham Radio as an experimenting platform which has something for every genre. At the end, students were asked to split into four groups to enjoy VHF Demo, students learnt how to operate a HT, Started giving calls to other groups, responding to the caller, giving feedback & comments over radio! Our fellow hams incl. VU3EXP, VU3IKI, VU3HXS, VU3VDC, VU3DVA and VU3GLY nicely assisted each group. Faculties’ incl. program coordinator Prof. Jigar Shah & HoD ICT Prof. Gangaprasad Pandey Sir conveyed Vote of Thanks over Radio. On behalf of our Ham team Sakshi Vagadia VU3EXP thanks to all participants & PDPU University for organizing this memorable workshop. At 1300 our workshop concluded. Was nice to see students come out with learning something new & exciting, many showed their interest to be Radio Ham & enjoy this fascinating and unique hobby. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held between January 1, 2023, and June 30, 2023. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. The deadline to submit a proposal is March 31, 2022. IC-9700 / SDR Console Issue

All: I like the idea of having a larger spectrum display when working satellites so I setup SDR Console to run my SDR Play along with my IC-9700. I use HRD's Satellite tracking and I have the Doppler correction working in sync with SDR Console via Omnirig. The setup works well, but I found that SDR Console mutes when I transmit in Satellite mode i.e., transmitting on 2 meters with the IC-9700 mutes the 70cm reception on SDR Console. This does not happen when I disconnect HRD and transmit with the SDR Console running so it would appear that HRD is causing the issue. SDR Console does have an auto-mute feature but I have it disabled. I switched over to HDSDR and it does not mute when transmitting so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what might be going on with HRD. Also wondering what other SDR software I can use with HRD Satellite tracking to accomplish the same goal? Either liking via Omni-Rig or DDE. Tony -K2MO

MIR-SAT 1 (MO112) re-entry

Dear All, Please see below mail I sent on the 3B8 local forum which is self explanatory. I wish to thank all who help, provided advices and support on this mission. The list would be too long to publish but in a nutshell is a great proof of HAM solidarity worldwide. Without you guys we would not have make it as successful mission. I wish also to request all to accept our apologies for late commissioning of the digipeater due to many issues, in spite late we strive to live to our commitment to IARU and believe succeeded to provide a high quality digi but unfortunately for a too short period. Hopefully we will do better in future. 73 Jean Marc (3B8DU) "Dear All, It seems to be confirmed that MIR-SAT 1 re-entered. The last valid telemetry signals of MIR-SAT 1 (worldwide) was received in Mauritius with the UoM ground station by YOG-3B8 (Dr Yogesh Beeharry, Lecturer of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Mauritius). Yogesh, member of this forum led a team of UoM students who build their own ground station. This was at 01:36 Hrs local time this morning and JA0CAW (Tetsu, an experience Satellite HAM) confirmed to me by mail that no signals was received from MIR-SAT 1 at 05:03 (MRU time). More many other regular reporting HAMs confirmed to me that no signals received from our bird today. This confirms that MIR-SAT 1 re-entered between 01:36 and 05:03 Hrs and probably burn out at around 110Km in a blast of flame, unfortunately the location is not known as mainly over oceans during the time window. I also confirm that a few minutes before last observation from Yogesh that I received the TLM of MIR-SAT 1 and also made successful Digipeats through it (see attached screenshot), the bird was at about 160km altitude at that time, this was my farewell to MO-112. Congratulations to Yogesh to be the last recorded person on this planet to have successfully decoded our 3B8 bird. RIP MIR-SAT 1, you have been a great tool for educational and HAM experiments. ARISSconducts 60-80 of these special amateur radio contacts each year betweenstudents around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboard theISS. Bellefontaine High School (BHS), is a rural, public high school(about 900 students, ages 13-18years) about 50 miles northwest of Columbus,Ohio, in Logan County. FS: Icom 910H 2m/70cm all mode satellite radio

The Icom IC-910H sets the standard in amateur radio satellite radios. The IC-910H contains a full 100 watts of power on VHF, eliminating the need for an external high power amplifier for satellite uplinks. For mode-B satellites, Icom provides 75 watts of output on UHF. With dual high sensitivity DSP compatible receivers (with optional UT-106 DSP board), weak signal DX and satellite communications are second to none. Optional preamplifiers for each band are available for installations requiring additional receive gain. The optional UT-102 unit may be added to announce the operating frequency in English or Japanese. This radio does dual receive, full duplex operating for the satellites, as well as satellite tracking. It is in good physical condition and works fine. Hi Pedro, Thanks for your input which is really appreciated. Would be great for me if it re-enters over NZ tomorrow morning as it will give me an opportunity to get another overhead pass tonight (my time). A word of cautious to all: most sources of TLE for MO-112 are presently erroneous due to fast decay, thus frequency has to be adjusted manually and better use an omni antenna as antenna pointing is totally off. Quite difficult to predict exact re-entry time and location with many assumptions, without accurate data and limited means (no onboard GPS as in the case of BobCat 1, unfortunately). It is a moving target while decaying quickly particularly for us here with limited experience. Dear All, MIR-SAT-1 (MO-112) is decaying faster than we expected, a simulation done today shows that re-entry is expected now in a few hours. We expect it to re-enter in the Atlantic between S.America and Africa tonight at around 20:00 hrs UTC, to be taken with a "pinch of salt" as using TLE which may not be precise anymore for calculations. Also, MIRC and MARS will jointly issue a special Award (with some goodies, T-Shirt etc..) to the station capturing and sending to Satnogs the last telemetry before re-entry. Running from May 20 to 22, 2022, this will be the 70th Anniversary of the legendary Amateur Radio get-together. After a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID pandemic, everyone is anxious to return to examine the latest in technology and to visit with old friends. As before, Hamvention will be held at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in Xenia, Ohio. AMSAT's presence will be felt in with eight adjoining booths in Building 1. Highlighting the exhibit will be: - CubeSat Simulator hardware and software demonstrations - SatPC software demonstrations - AMSAT Engineering staff question and answer table - AMSAT Youth Initiative (KidzSat) introduction - OSCAR ground station for live satellite operations - Annual Membership sign-up and renewals - AMSAT President's Club recognition - AMSAT Board of Directors and Senior Officers Meet and Greet - AMSAT Store offering AMSAT trinkets, books and Arrow Antennas Everyone is also invited to two special evening events: - The annual "Dinner at Tickets will be held on Thursday evening at 6:00 PM at Tickets restaurant located at 7 W Main St, Fairborn, Ohio. - The AMSAT/TAPR Annual Banquet will be held Friday night at 6:30 PM at the Kohler Presidential Banquet Center located at 4548 Presidential Way, Kettering, Ohio. URESAT URESAT (HADES-B ITU designation) is a 1.5 P Pocketqube mission sponsored by AMSAT-EA. It will offer licensed radio amateurs around the world the opportunity to relay FM voice and AX.25/APRS 300/1200 bps communications. This will be achieved by implementing a SDR based FM and FSK repeater. A SSTV camera module by Brno University is expected to fly depending on time restrictions. Images would be taken randomly but the SSTV module would contain some ROM coded images to be transmitted as well. URESAT hardware and software subsystems are enhanced versions of the previous AMSAT-EA HADES satellite mission launched on a SpaceX Transporter-3 mission on January 3, 2022. A downlink on 436.888 MHz and an uplink on 145.975 MHz have been coordinated for a V/U FM voice repeater, a beacon with FSK, AFSK and APRS telemetry plus a CW beacon. The launch is planned for a 525km polar orbit with SpaceX in October 2022 managed by Exolaunch/Alba Orbital. More info at https://www.amsat-ea.org. LightCube LightCube is a 1U CubeSat educational mission sponsored by Arizona State University. Its aim is to inspire and provide a learning experience to people across the planet by producing a light visible to the naked eye. The flash, expected to be as bright as the International Space Station, will be produced by two Xenon flash tubes. The spacecraft will be triggered by Amateur Radio operators. This mission with its outreach goal of increasing the accessibility of satellites will inspire more people to become Amateur Radio licensees and to continue interacting with more CubeSats. In addition to triggering the LightCube flash, radio amateurs can also download and decode the telemetry information. A downlink on 437.175 MHz using 1k2 AFSK with AX25.has been coordinated. One of the agenda items for the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC23) is AI-9.1b - Measures to be applied in the frequency band 1240-1300 MHz to ensure the protection of the radionavigation-satellite service (RNSS) in accordance with Resolution-774. SE40 is the CEPT ECC working group that looks at Space Service compatibility issues. Software-defined radio can be used in satellite systems as a replacement for these traditional platforms, and have numerous benefits. SDRs can also be configured to various form factors for different payloads, for instance in CubeSats. In addition to all these, SDRs are extremely rugged and radiation-resistant and area able to withstand the harsh conditions of space.
