First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 0730 - 1930 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking and before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. And don’t forget that the packet system is active. As always, if there is an EVA, a docking, or an undocking; the ARISS radios are turned off as part of the safety protocol. I bought an arrow antenna at the Raleigh Hamfest this past weekend. It has been about 15 years since my last satellite QSO. This evening I walked out in my backyard and with the TH-D72 I had contact with a couple of hams. on SO-50. I apologize that I could not remember the calls as I heard them. I am 78 now and the brain is not as acute as it used to be. I had no way to write them down. Holding the antenna and the handheld and trying to shift downlink frequency and uplink back and forth is a challenge. I guess I will need to try a voice recorder.. If I worked you I would love to have your info so I can put you in my log. Thanks for the QSO's and it was good to be back on the satellite after all these years. 73<<John N4QWF

It's an attempt for educational purposes and will be joined by an academician from Chinese Academy of Sciences. AMSAT BB, The AMSAT IT Team does have it on our list of projects, to update the Satellite Status page. We do want to include the feature that will allow for comments. There are other ideas like enabling the AMSAT Discord bot to check the "last heard" info for any given satellite. The initial plan was to try to open source the code, so that more people could contribute to make it better. That is still the plan. However, we identified some code that is pretty dated; and has some security issues. We have to resolve some of that before we can open source it. That all being said, if people are interested in contributing their time to this or other AMSAT IT projects, please e-mail us at IT(a)amsat.org. We would love to have a couple more people on the team that have development experience. We are a small team; and we all have family and full time job commitments. Our AMSAT volunteer time is largely limited to keeping the lights on, so to speak. We try to develop new capabilities or improve existing ones as best we can. But if any of you out there are passionate about this and have some coding experience, please reach out to us! AO-109 is a very weak signal bird due to issues on orbit. Most people without very directional antennas can't hear it a lot of the time. We have only speculation as to what went wrong with it, but I've only had very sparing luck with it and that was using FT-4.
