The Frontiers of Flight museum in Dallas, Texas, Love Field, is again this July 22, having it' annual "Moon Day" event on Saturday July 22nd. This is a large Space theamed STEM event held at the Museum for 15 years now. Regularly attracting 1200-1500 people, from young children and families, to the young at heart. Many organizations have tables, displays demos and presentations. I have been representing Amateur Radio Satellites, and AMSAT for many years now. We show off the types of satelites that AMSAT has/is developing, explain orbits/footprints, show off the cubesat simulator, and do live satellite pass demos. We do present how Amateur Radio makes space accessible to the average person. We are located right next to the Dallas Amateur Radio Club, who also is a regular participant. There are a couple of other satellite enthusiasts who usually assist in manning the inside display table, but there is always the need for additional folks to work the table, explain concepts, and do satellite communications demos out on the parking lot. If you live in the DFW area, are planning o be visiting, or just want to come and have a fun time explaining Amateur Radio in Space to a broader audience than just licensed hams, (We though routinely bump into lots of folks who have a license, but haven't gotten going with the hobby), please get in contact with me off list and I will give more details. First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 0730 - 1930 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking and before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. And don’t forget that the packet system is active. As always, if there is an EVA, a docking, or an undocking; the ARISS radios are turned off as part of the safety protocol.
