Rick, I'm in a single-story house and have health issues, my solution was to keep the antennas low my M2 LEO Yagis/Rotators are only 8ft off the ground and easy to manage and maintain Maybe worth considering before going the eggbeater route. Attic antennas or other options

Now that I’ve diagnosed that my AZ rotor has failed I’m wondering, at age 75, if I shouldn’t begin to make life a little easier. We do have a one story house but getting up and down from the roof and managing large antennas is getting more challenging and probably dangerous for me. I have an old pair of eggbeaters in the garage and I’m wondering if anyone has had any experience in using them, or something else, in an attic? This would make satellite operation more manageable for me, shorten my coax run and put me in a position of not having to find younger club members to help, and those are few and far between! 73 Rick, W2JAZ Sent from Gmail Mobile

The ISS usually works for me. It appears to be currently misconfigured. I believe there is a SSTV event coming that may have an impact. Service Module radio: IORS (Kenwood D710GA) – STATUS - Misconfigured. Default mode is for packet operations (145.825 MHz up & down). Powering off for SSTV on TBD. OFF TBD. ON TBD. Powering off for TBD on TBD. OFF TBD . ON TBD. Hi, This won’t be a consolation but. I had and have got new the 5500 It lasted me 10 years and seized. All for the sake of some drainage holes in the casings. I stripped it but was so far gone. I had such a great love I bought it again. Still no drainage holes, it has now! I take it down in Late October clean it and apply grease. Ring a local Sat TV Guy to take it down and put back when you have Bench tested. Richard, Voltage should be measured between terminal 6 as the common to terminal 4 or 5 depending on which switched is pressed. Remove the wires from terminal 1, 2 and 3. Measure the resistance between the wires that went to terminal 1 and 3. It should measure about 500 ohms. Then measure between terminals 1 and 2 then 2 and 3. The sum of those should be approximately the value you got between terminals 1 and 3. An infinity value indicates an open connection somewhere. To test the motor recruit someone to stand outside and watch the antenna as you work the switches to determine if the motors are working. This will work unless the rotor is at a limit and the drive to the other direction is either not working or a bad wiring connection exist. Terminals 1-3 comprise the position feedback and the rotor will work with them disconnected. Here is what I've learned: Voltage between terminals 4 & 6 and 5 &6 is 30 volts with the switch activated so that suggests voltage should be getting to the rotor from the control box. Checking resistance at the controller terminals 4 to 5 shows 8 ohms as it should There is no resistance shown between terminals 4 to 6 or 5 to 6 and I believe that should shw 4 ohms. So now I'm stumped. Could the problem be in the rotor connector or in the rotor itself? Any thoughts from the group. I'd like to get this repaired before the snow flies! Rick, W2JAZ

Check to see if you didn't do something like I did and cut the control cable while doing yard work. Failed G5500 AZ Help

I repaired recently the EL side of the control box. It was working through external control from the CSN SAT controller but it would not work manually. Now the AZ is frozen and won't work manually or through external control. I'm going to check out the roof top connection tomorrow but I'm anticipating the worst like a bad internal rotor pot. Can any one give me some voltages to check from the controller and what to look for externally at the rotor itself. Perhaps all this is available somewhere online so a pointer to that would be most appreciated. 73 Rick, W2JAZ

The event is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 11 at 11:50 UTC and to end Monday, November 18 at 13:40 UTC. SSTV transmissions will be paused during scheduled school contacts on November 15 and 16. Downlink transmissions will be at 145.800 MHz and the mode is expected to be PD 120. The transmissions will consist of 12 images featuring activities from the 2024 40th Anniversary Celebrating Amateur Radio in Human Spaceflight. If you are a past participant in our SSTV events, please note that we will be using our newly updated gallery at *https://ariss-usa.org/ARISS_SSTV/ <https://ariss-usa.org/ARISS_SSTV/>* . ARISS has a new way to request a special certificate. When participants successfully receive at least one image and submit it at the new gallery, participants will be moved to a thank-you page. There, a person can read text about data protection, and press the button that says “I agree,” and receive an email in two weeks or sooner with a certificate. If a person submits additional images, the thank-you page tells them they have already asked for a certificate. First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 07:30 – 19:30 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking up and about an hour before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. And don’t forget that the packet system is sometimes active. Check the status at https://www.ariss.org/ or http://www.issfanclub.eu to see if the packet system is active or not. HADES-D (SO-121) decayed

Dear friends, This is just to confirm that HADES-D satellite (SO-121) has re-entered the atmosphere, disintegrating as planned. AMSAT-EA would like to thank the amateur radio community for the support given to our satellite and specially the SatNOGS team and their users. We are pleased that, although its power was low, it was sufficient for many amateurs to be able to make voice contacts, including transatlantic ones, and that many people have enjoyed receiving its telemetry. Our next satellites HADES-R and HADES-ICM are scheduled as expected and we hope they will be even more useful for the community. It has been great to see people sharing videos in Youtube making QSOs and in Twitter sharing telemetry. We expect to count with you all for the next projects, 73, Félix EA4GQS (AMSAT-EA)

ARISS conducts 60-100 of these special amateur radio contacts each year between students around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboard the ISS. Bandello Primary School is located in Castelnuovo Scrivia, a town in the countryside located in the North of Italy. It is a small primary school, with 11 classes, a gym and a computer lab. Students have been studying the science of space since last year. This will be a telebridge Contact via Amateur Radio allowing students to ask their questions of astronaut Sunita Williams, amateur radio call sign KD5PLB. The downlink frequency for this contact is 145.800 MHz and may be heard by listeners that are within the ISS-footprint that also encompasses the telebridge station. The ARISS amateur radio ground station (telebridge station) for this contact is in Meadow Spring, Australia. The amateur radio volunteer team at the ground station will use the call sign VK6MJ, to establish and maintain the ISS connection. Thanks for this report from Japan. In the next few hours there will be some passes over India, North America and Europe. It is always interesting to see how long the spacecraft will remain operating, as the onboard temperatures increase over the next 24 hours. Also pass predictions tend to degrade in the last days of a spacecraft's life, so predictions may be a bit early or late depending on how old your TLEs are. Hello all, DE JI1IZR/Masahiro. I listened to HADES-D from 12:55-13:02UTC today, 5th November, 2024. I haerd the FSK50 sound at about 13:00UTC but I could not decoede on real time. I tried to decode with the recorded sound and got the data. It may be MY last report for HADES-D. I share it with you all. First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 07:30 – 19:30 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking up and about an hour before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements.
