Good background, Jim! Based on my reading of the documentation, the Fox-1 satellites ran on an STM32L151VBT - an ARM Cortex-M3 running at 32 MHz with 16K of RAM. There's also 128K of flash storage and 4K of EEPROM. Additionally, there was 128K of MRAM on the IHU board. AMSAT's PACSAT board - a modern version of the microsats - uses a TMS-570, which is an ARM Cortex-R, running at up to 160 MHz with 1280K of flash storage and 192K of RAM. MRAM will be used for BBS storage. ARISS conducts 60-100 of these special amateur radio contacts each yearbetween students around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboardthe ISS. ThriveHome School Academy (THSA) opened in 2009 and serves home schooled students ingrades K-12, with 367 students. The school offers students a one-day-per-weekfull school day programthat is highly interactive and experiential andengages students in hands-on activities. THSA also offers an array ofextracurricular activities to further enhance students’ learning outside of theclassroom. THSA has also worked with GrowingBeyond Earth on the NASA Veggie Project with Dr. Goia Massa for the last sixyears, allowing one of their students, who has worked on this project over thelast two years, to ask a question based on that work. While STEM education is afocus within the district, in the 2023-24 school year and leading up to thisARISS contact, the curriculum is focusing on space technologies and radiocommunication. Recently,the school district hosted astronauts Kevin Chilton and Susan Helms to come andtalk to students and their families about space communications and travel,space technologies, and their experiences in space. Members of the Pikes PeakRadio Amateur Association and ARRL Colorado Section Manager Amanda Alden havehelped students to learn about orbital mechanics and ham radio and satellitecommunications. I might add a couple of things. The 1990 AMSAT NA microsats ran on NEC V40's, essentially an 80286, at 2.5MHz clock speed. They nicely handled 4 simultaneous uplinks and one downlink at 1200 bps, along with store and forward messages and telemetry collection and downlink. Later we we used that same processor board design in Falconsat-3 for the Air Force Academy which ran for the AFA, then in amateur use for 16 years. It had the same store and forward messaging, plus several experiments on board. And, all of those satellites had 256k of memory. Some years ago we built a couple of cubesats that ran on an AtMega64 8 bit processor with a 11Mhz clock speed. First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 07:30 – 19:30 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking up and about an hour before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. Roughly the same memory and computing power, plus the '328 consumes orders of magnitude less space, power, weight and dollars. Saturn and Apollo computers likely were better in radiation resistance and reliability though. AMSAT used radiation hardened RCA COSMAC 1802 on several spacecraft, and I think one is still running on UO-11. That thing ran very slow, with a machine cycle of about 100 kHz, with opcodes taking 2 or 3 cycles to complete. de KM1P Joe

AMSAT alerted the US Space Force 18th Space Defense Squadron of a glitch in their systems that prevented updates of publicly available element sets for BeliefSat-0 after January 4th. USSF 18 SDS thanked AMSAT for the notice and restored public updates on January 30th. BeliefSat-0's Principal Investigator Professor Shinde of K J Somaiya Institute of Technology thanked AMSAT for arranging the fix and requested reception reports. Hams in equatorial regions are encouraged to submit reports to the AMSAT status page<http://www.amsat.org/status> and/or schedule observations in SatNogs<https://satnogs.org/>. The spacecraft is in an equatorial orbit and rises above the horizon for ground stations located between approximately 20 degrees south and 20 degrees north latitude. First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 07:30 – 19:30 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking up and about an hour before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. And don’t forget that the packet system is sometimes active. Check the status at https://www.ariss.org/ or http://www.issfanclub.eu to see if the packet system is active or not.
