Hi, I was very interested in Jeff's and Dave's comments. Was there more than one 'Chicken Little' competition? AMSAT-UK took over the competition which was originally started by UoS. The winner was Geoff G3ENY, who sadly is no longer with us. I spent quite a lot of time attempting to predict the 'burn-up'of OSCAR-9 and Salyut7. I'll put together what information I can find, and post it here in a few days time. I would be very interested whether any one can find any references in the AMSAT Journal or elsewhere, other than in OSCAR News, which I already have. I see a lot of discussion on here about the difficulty of receiving our present low orbit satellites... Admittedly, I have not tried other than AO7, AO51, VO52 and SO50... AO51 requires not much more than a "wet noodle" for both up and down link, so relate your sig strengths (both up and down) with relation to it, and I can help...Also tell me if your problem is up or down... Can they hear you? or cannot you hear them... It would sort of give me a guide as to the capabilities of both your receive and xmit systems. There are many factors that relate to the above questions, but let us start there. And many factors that can lead to success... This is sent with my OLPC. What a great idea this project is. It goes to show what can be acccomplished ny dedicated individuals, something familiar to a lot of people in these two groups. The thing does appear to have sufficient horsepower to do some DSP. I would like to think we can make several things available to this project. For example, I think a tunable HF receiver for shortwave AM broadcast is easiy achievable for very modest cost. Further out, I would to see the use of this machine and OFDM skywave to provide WAN capability to large areas of the world without such capability. At least one Negroponte clearly has heart and vision. Happy holidays and I hope everyone is looking forward to 2008 with as much anticipation as I am. Bob

Hi all, Does anyone have any experience making a RigExpert "Tiny" Model: TTL-I-1 for the Yaesu FT-100, FT-817, FT-857, FT-897 work with a Yaesu FT-847 or Kenwood TS-790. I know I will have to rewire some plugs or make adaptor wires to match the radio's but I was hoping not to re-invent the wheel if someone already figured it out. The people at RigExpert say they don't make a version for the FT-847. RoD KD0XX

I have a little signal source of 10mw on 434 MHz I would like to use it as a source to dest the directivity of some antenna projects. I am finding it it too loud How can I dampen it down besides drive it 3 kms that way ? FT-847 Disaster

Hi All: I'm afraid that I reversed the DC Polarity to my FT-847. Needless to say, "the smoked leaked out", therefore, the 847 has ceased to operate. I understand that the 847 has protection for careless hams like myself.. I was hopping that someone on the board has had this experience (no need to reveal). Hi all, Perhaps someone can clarify this for me as well, the elset number for ANDE keps on Spacetrack seem to be "jumping around". I downloaded 07464 yesterday morning, when I looked last night the current set was back to 7297 which is what it is still showing. There is about 2 minutes difference between these two elsets. Is this a correction or something else? Great that so many stations keep triggering ANDE APRS and thereby get ANDE to provide telemetry ! Looking at: http://web.usna.navy.mil/~bruninga/andeTLM1.html we see now for the first time the temperature go up inside the spacecraft. How much more time is left (now it can go VERY fast) Henk

KiwiSAT - Not just another one!

KiwiSAT; we're building it for you! Did you enjoy using the Phase-3 satellites? Remember the UoSATs? Are you using some of the current units? Over the years AMSAT-ZL has contributed some $10,000 to these programs and are now quietly getting on with completing KiwiSAT for your enjoyment. ( See http://www.kiwisat.org ) We want this to be a truly radio amateur satellite and while we could get some extra sponsorship, which we will do for the launch, the satellite itself needs to be completed using amateur radio resources and amateur radio money. So far our investment is some US$15,000 cash and perhaps US$100,000 in time and effort. We have a further US$12,000 in the bank reserved towards the cost of the solar cells (US$30,000 est.). We spend a lot of time looking for economy without engineering compromise thus this is a real cost effective satellite. We have abandoned purchasing ready made modules and opted for self design and construction. Yes, some areas we have had to use professional services, for instance our SMD handing ability is limited by our standard ham-shack tools and techniques. However we have made much of the test equipment ourselves - including the thermal vacuum chamber. To finish the satellite to flight-ready status, (less solar cells) we need to raise some $10,000, which is about what we have given to other projects. Hi Andrew for sure its essential to be able to switch polarization sense or at least switch between vert and horiz if you don't have a phasing harness. RS-22 a bit poorly

Hi All, Decoded RS-22 this morning on the 09:00 GMT pass and it would appear that the voltages are fine, she decided to send “RS22 UBS” “RS22 long tone....” “TTXA tone.......” “RS22 UBS 139 IBS32 TTXA111 TTXA110 tone” I have recorded the pass and it would appear that there was 0 volts & amps on the solar battery. The one I copied the last telemetry from burned up in the pacific on 13oct89..... The on going satellite re-entry prediction chats on here are very interesting, and may be of interest to those predictors in the following: I made the statement on the bb a while back that "I had the last qso on Oscar 9 (Uosat 1) launched by the University of Surrey. Jeff, wb3jfs, kindly reminded me that I could not have had a "qso" as it was digital only!! And I thank him for that. I recorded the last telemetry, as proven by the U of Surrey.... Sooooooooooooooooo...I dug out the paperwork I have from 18 years ago (it has faded about as much as I have!). Signals were variable in strength, mostly weak. The real time clock has lost a further 4.29 days since 08 October. When last heard it was 74.26876 days slow. I am indebted to Kevin WA6FWF, Peter ZL3TC, Armando N8IGJ and Thomas HB0SKA for their reports. Many thanks. Eclipses have continued and are expected until mid January 2008. Although the maximum duration of the current eclipses is less than those earlier this year, it is doubtful whether the satellite will be heard for any sustained period. Even in continuous sunlight during September and October the satellite was unable to support continuous operation. It is likely than the satellite will only be heard by chance, by stations listening for other satellites on 145.826 Mhz. The current status of the satel lite, is that all the analogue telemetry channels, 0 to 59 are zero, ie they have failed. The status channels 60 to 67 are still working. The real time clock is showing a large accumulated error, although over short periods timekeeping is accurate to a few seconds per month. The day of the month has a bit stuck at 'one' so the day of the month may show an error of +40 days for some dates. The time display has switched into 12 hour mode. Unfortunately, there is no AM/PM indicator, since the time display format was designed for 24 hour mode. More data is required to determine exactly when the date changes. The spacecraft computer and active attitude control system have switched OFF, ie. the satellite' attitude is controlled only by the passive gravity boom gradient, and the satellite is free to spin at any speed. When telemetry was last received it showed that one of the solar arrays had failed, and there was a large unexp lained current drain on the main 14 volt bus. After 23 years in orbit the battery has undergone around 100,000 partial charge/discharge cycles, and observations suggest that it cannot power the satellite during eclipses, or sometimes during periods of poor solar attitude. The watchdog timer now operates on a 20 day cycle. The ON/OFF times have tended to be very consistent. The average of many observations show this to be 20.7 days, ie. 10.3 days ON followed by 10.4 days OFF. However, poor solar attitude may result may result in a low 14 volt line supply, which may cause the beacon to switch OFF prematurely, and reset the watchdog timer cycle. When this occurs, the beacon is OFF for 20.7 days. The Beacon frequencies are - VHF 145.826 MHz. AFSK FM ASCII Telemetry UHF 435.025 MHz. OFF S-band 2401.5 MHz. We need to be ready for this event. Phase IV will enable AMSAT to concentrate more fully on the development of space communications. The Intelsat platform will provide hundreds of watts of power for 15 years eliminating the need for AMSAT to provide solar cells, it will perform the station keeping and earth pointing tasks, internal housekeeping will be simplified. Once we have shown funding sources what AMSAT is capable of additional launch opportunities will arise. Intelsat can drop off sub-payloads into LEO, GTO, or GEO orbits on their way to their primary mission. There are more doors open to the future if we realize and pursue the new reality. As we recognize and work within the new reality of commercial spaceflight we will provide exciting new services for amateur radio, emergency preparedness, and education. The side effect of developing "services" will be that we still gain what everyone is asking - high orbit transponders for us to use and enjoy. Orbital Classroom -Where is it?????????

Hi folks, Having read through many, many emails about Eagle, GEO's and other stuff I would like to introduce an idea that has captured me for a few years (!) now and has never come up. We all agree (I assume) that amateur radio and satellites is a great combination and fun. I assume most of us love it and those that don't at least make a living from it otherwise they wouldn't do it. In addition, the big majority of us have some grey hairs, but we are still trying to learn and challenge our brains (scary thought). Having said that, when I came back from the AMSAT annual meeting (symposium) this year I felt we missed a great opportunity and to be more specific we have absolute nothing in place to teach and educate our members and the community. Yes, we go to hamfests and events and have a pretty PowerPoint or in the "parking lot" demo, but where are the courses, the classes that help us better understand for example the orbital mechanics of a satellites, the satellite communication principles for VHF and UHF, the design of L and S band antennas? All the stuff that goes beyond our basic license and would keep us learning???? I look at the ARRL and see many exciting courses and AMSAT has nothing in place. Some of the material has been written up and I applaud Gould Smith and others that took the time to write these documents. The problem is that they are books! No interaction, no feedback, etc. I believe we can do so much more. Why don't we have pre-conference courses at AMSAT meetings that allow our participants to learn? Why don't we offer certificates for continuing education based on accomplishments in learning and become much more educated? Where is the course on emergency preparedness and satellites (GEOs anyone). How do I interpret two line Keppler data and what will happen if I modify some of those numbers (ANDE re-entry anyone)? How about a basic course in SRD or building small beautiful satellites and lessons learned (Bob Bruninga's ideas). All this would add value, probably generate some resources for AMSAT (course fees) and make us proud of learning and sharing knowledge and not just opinions. For example, I would have no problem adding $ 30 -50 to my registration fee for the AMSAT symposium and having a full day workshop. Everyone else is doing it and all the conferences I go to. No, I am not talking about amateur satellite 101 for newcomers (that still is important), I am talking about "meat" for those that are part of the hobby already and want to move to the next level of knowledge. We have thousands of members and our pool of potential instructors is big. I would highly encourage the board to seriously look at this. I know that Rick Hambly is fully committed to make the education a bigger part of AMSAT and we need to support him. I for one have no problem in teaching and volunteering for a course at the next AMSAT meeting but it would be very nice if you share your thoughts about this. Maybe it is just me and everyone else is fine but maybe the next "Orbital Classroom" is finally that, a classroom and not just a two page paper in the journal! Signals were variable in strength, mostly weak. The real time clock has lost a further 4.29 days since 08 October. When last heard it was 74.26876 days slow. I am indebted to Kevin WA6FWF, Peter ZL3TC, Armando N8IGJ and Thomas HB0SKA for their reports. Many thanks. Eclipses have continued and are expected until mid January 2008. Although the maximum duration of the current eclipses is less than those earlier this year, it is doubtful whether the satellite will be heard for any sustained period. Even in continuous sunlight during September and October the satellite was unable to support continuous operation. It is likely than the satellite will only be heard by chance, by stations listening for other satellites on 145.826 Mhz. The current status of the satel lite, is that all the analogue telemetry channels, 0 to 59 are zero, ie they have failed. The status channels 60 to 67 are still working. The real time clock is showing a large accumulated error, although over short periods timekeeping is accurate to a few seconds per month. The day of the month has a bit stuck at 'one' so the day of the month may show an error of +40 days for some dates. The time display has switched into 12 hour mode. Unfortunately, there is no AM/PM indicator, since the time display format was designed for 24 hour mode. More data is required to determine exactly when the date changes. The spacecraft computer and active attitude control system have switched OFF, ie. the satellite' attitude is controlled only by the passive gravity boom gradient, and the satellite is free to spin at any speed. When telemetry was last received it showed that one of the solar arrays had failed, and there was a large unexp lained current drain on the main 14 volt bus. After 23 years in orbit the battery has undergone around 100,000 partial charge/discharge cycles, and observations suggest that it cannot power the satellite during eclipses, or sometimes during periods of poor solar attitude. The watchdog timer now operates on a 20 day cycle. The ON/OFF times have tended to be very consistent. The average of many observations show this to be 20.7 days, ie. 10.3 days ON followed by 10.4 days OFF. However, poor solar attitude may result may result in a low 14 volt line supply, which may cause the beacon to switch OFF prematurely, and reset the watchdog timer cycle. When this occurs, the beacon is OFF for 20.7 days. The Beacon frequencies are - VHF 145.826 MHz. AFSK FM ASCII Telemetry UHF 435.025 MHz. OFF S-band 2401.5 MHz. There is a distinct shift away from the aegis of government/military sponsored spaceflight to a field that will be more and more driven by commercial consideration. This development signifies that space missions will become driven by a business-case model. While our new missions will provide great new services to the Amateur Radio community, we cannot afford to pay millions for them. The reality is that no one will pay for more "toys" for us to play with. To gain the funding necessary our missions must excite the funding sources. AMSAT will be required to fit into the business-case models of just about every launch opportunity we wish to pursue in the future. Your Board of Directors and Officers have identified two key areas which capture the attention and imagination of potential funding sources: + Education - The Phase IV geosynchronous satellite will enable TDRS-like support of ARISS. Ten minute school contacts will grow to hours-long contact with the Space Station. We are working on an expanded curriculum with the ARISS and NASA teams. We are planning the establishment of the AMSAT Institute which will train educators to bring space into the classroom using AMSAT's Phase IV facilities in conjunction with ARISS. + Emergency Communications - The Advanced Communications Payload is being co-developed as spaceflight and ground station gear available for rapid deployment or pre-positioning into disaster areas to provide 365/24/7 communication capability. This proposal is gaining some attention within the Homeland Security organization. AMSAT's Current Development Plans Consistent with our Vision Statement we are continuing development of Phase III satellites. Budget and staffing for the Eagle satellite will continue for 2007-2008. AMSAT-NA is contributing staff and money toward completing AMSAT-DL's Phase 3 Express Satellite in 2008. AMSAT-NA teamed with AMSAT-UK to donate 25,000 Euros to AMSAT-DL for the completion of P3E. Phase IV is not a replacement program at the expense of Phase III. The same transponder gear already in development for Eagle and P3E remains applicable to Phase IV. The new commercial launch reality mentioned previously indicates we may actually be able to be launched earlier to a high orbit if we fit into the Intelsat ride sharing model. We need to be ready for this event. Phase IV will enable AMSAT to concentrate more fully on the development of space communications. The Intelsat platform will provide hundreds of watts of power for 15 years eliminating the need for AMSAT to provide solar cells, it will perform the station keeping and earth pointing tasks, internal housekeeping will be simplified. Once we have shown funding sources what AMSAT is capable of additional launch opportunities will arise. Intelsat can drop off sub-payloads into LEO, GTO, or GEO orbits on their way to their primary mission. There are more doors open to the future if we realize and pursue the new reality. I invite you join AMSAT's exciting future. As we recognize and work within the new reality of commercial spaceflight we will provide exciting new services for amateur radio, emergency preparedness, and education. The side effect of developing "services" will be that we still gain what everyone is asking - high orbit transponders for us to use and enjoy. folks I am done whinin about not getting it but want to say my last words about it, and state the facts, First they promised us delivery by the 24th if we orderd on the 12th, which I did. Second, some got theres when they orderd later say on the 15th.(first come first served) Third they all knew, being xmas time, that we would buy one for our child and then get another bought for someone else. (THE TIMING) SAY not as many would be sold if it was at another time of the year. They choose this time. Fouth It looks like they allready had there little cards all set to go knowing this was the plan, and the 30 days to cancel your order, is up.Remember I orderd the 12th of November. The first day! And I really dont care how much they are on ebay, who buys anything from them anyway. not me And I'm certanly not in it to make money. So now I either have to go out and buy my child another expensive gift here at the last moment, as the other boys are getting 1 expensive gift, (then he will get two) or just hand him this printer card and call it even and he can wait till January or Febuary for his present. Pre-amps

I got a couple of cheap and nasty BFR91 pre-amp boards from out local electronics store. I built one and the gain was equal or worse. It had two sets of components for VHF and UHF. So I took a gamble and put in the VHF parts instead. Bingo S1 to S9 improvement. Ok, so lets cascade them. Sure enough the front end of my radio on 144 MHz overloaded with other signals. It has bought up GO32 from S1 to S9 GENSAT is S4 from S nothing. Now this is just before the radio. I am now keen to throw it in a box and up at the antenna. Having fun, also building a Power Break out box with meters and switches. I knew the Phase 4 issue was going to produce LOTS of AMSAT-BB traffic and i didn't want to take the time to read it at the time. But i did want to make clear my views on the subject. So i sent a modest check to AMSAT-NA specifically for future satellites that would serve amateurs worldwide. 5400B Rotor Problem

First, many thanks to W7PN, VE4YZ and W0SAT for their help in troubleshooting my rotor problem. Problem: Both az and el indicators moved to just past the mid position with the rotors moving full travel ( They moved all the time the rotors were moving but at a slower rate). Both indicators have the same circuitry differing only in the scale on the face plates so all voltage readings should be the same for both az and el. Mine were. On the back of the controller, terminal 1 should read a constant 6 vdc. Terminals 2 and 3 voltages will vary according to rotor position but added together should total 6 v. My terminal 1 reading was 3.2 v, approx half what it should be. Following the circuit back towards the voltage regulator, R9 and R10 also both read 3.2 v ( should be 6 v). At the voltage regulator (Q2 on the diagram, Part # ua7806c) readings should be approx 16 v on the input pin, 6v on the output pin, with the center pin ground. My readings were 16 v in, 3.2 v out, center pin ground, isolating the problem to the voltage regulator. I hope this info can be of use to others. Bill KB2RC Amsat 6986

Sorry, I can't forward into the packet system myself. I downloaded ASatLogger, but maybe some issues with Windows Vista, but could not get it to play fair. Also, seems I need an ID to send into the server anyway. A few volunteers needed

I am putting out a call for volunteers to help with some specific prototyping tasks that AMSAT needs to do in the early part of 2008. http://www.amsat.org for those unfamiliar with the organization. The skills needed are 1) TIME ;-) 2) I need FPGA programming help for a Virtex 2. It will be used to prototype several different functions but a specific parallel channel demodulator, single carrier modulator, FEC generation and decoding need to be done. Existing cores that are not encumbered with IP are required so if that has to be new work, that is what it is. I also need for a separate task to develop a PWM modulator to drive a switching power supply. 3) I need switching power supply designers to come out of the wood work and join in with an RF development effort. While AMSAT has some power supply volunteers, they are mostly engaged. 4) I need up and down converters for 3.4 and 5.7 GHz that will be used to generate and receive hard limited constant envelope signals. Efficiency is paramount but this is a prototype. Functioning would be ideal! 5) We could use people with RF test equipment and labs at their disposal to do tests on these prototypes. I think we are moving into an exciting and higher intensity time in AMSAT and it is my hope that some of these things will interest you. There will needs to be a meeting in January in the D.C. area, absolutely no later than Mid February if you are interested. ANDE final tracking

ANDE was doing well on the last pass at about 2000z on the 21st. I have to leave now for Grandma's and so cannot command high telemetry rates. This means ANDE will not be heard over the east coast unless she wakes up on her own and she hears packets. Then she will only beacon telemetry once a minute. So, I am taking a risk here and authorizing unattended beacons at a 30 second rate. This should keep the channel busy enough to wake ANDE up. Once she wakes, you can back off to let others in. The original primary lithium cells are doing just fine. No drop in voltage apparent since launch. In fact, voltage appears up these last few days due to higher temps. Good luck. Hi John, The physical installation is listed in the documentation with the UX-910 1200Mhz Band Unit. If you look on page 73 of the Instruction Manual for the IC-910H it also gives instructions for installing the unit. The operational display is explained in the 910H manual on pages 19-21. Pressing and holding the BAND M/S button the front of the radio will switch the unselected band in place of one of the displayed bands. You basically only have to bands that you can operate at a time. I hope that I have not confused you. It is explained in the manual. Ron, same here. During my best AM pass, I only decoded one packet! Warming and cooling is expected. The warming we have been seeing is mostly due to ANDE's orbit precessing into a full sun phase that also happened to coincide with the winter solstice. That peak for ANDE just passed yesterday, so it will be cooling. (Eclipses are getting longer). It will be interesting to see how much of the warming was due to the sun angles and if any of it yet is due to friction.. Hi Andrew, to receive AO-51 I have 38 elements cross yagi, left and right polarization, SP 7000 pre-amp and 30 meters RT 50-20 coaxial cable. Les, Of course P4 is not even on the drawing board, but P4 will be very similar to Eagle as I read from Rick and Bob. So that means: mode-UV (maybe) - Linear analog tranponder. mode-US or LS - Linear analog transponder mode-SC or CX - Digital Voice/Video/Data SDX as main radio. Will that mean channeled operation? I suppose for EMCOMM that would be best (hopefully, multi-channel). Will it be trunked? Or will it resemble packet UI or APRS? Because of the digital coding this does mean buying a ground unit designed by the P4 engineering team. Whether it will be built by AMSAT or the design licensed to private commercial mfrs, I do not know. Perhaps it can be made as a (partial) kit. I think it is easy to get confused between what will the EMCOMM ground station look like and what the "apartment" ham station look like for the digital mode (remember that is voice-or-video-or-data). Since power is provided by Intelsat, I am guessing that there will be ample power for transmitters. That might permit using smaller dishes for the mw digital mode. That might be 12 or 18 inches...or maybe permit use of a flat phased planar array (patches). 18-inch offset feed dishes are readily obtained from Direct-TV/Dish Network suppliers. Gain at x-band is about 32 dBi. So I disagree that EMCOMM automatically implies big dishes or expensive custom transceiver (It should be a mw xvtr followed by a SDR plugged into a computer). I have no idea what the Eagle Team is thinking the SC-Rider package would run (Bob and guesses this early?). Everything is speculation at this point! Les, Then how do the "civilians" set up those nice mw satellite terminal phones? I have seen some that the case cover is the antenna and it comes with a compass. The cover is rotated to settings from a chart. Flip a switch and pick up the handset. The digital stuff of P4 will "inside" (sort of like Intel is inside my computer). With good packaging and instructions I think it can be made simple enough. I am kind of hoping that the main-stream P4 will be more generic satellite that requires some skill in operation, but for the EMCOMM unit KISS. ANDE ramping down: now almost at 200km

ANDE is now at ~202 km height. On my website I updated the plotted height, and its perfectly following the shape of the predictions. Signal vs. Noise

Vanguard 1 Reception?

Anyone with an EME dish that can mount a 108 MHz feed? Rumor has it that Vanguard 1 should still be emitting a tiny singal on 108.00 MHz since it was directly powered by solar cells. It has gotten weaker and weaker over the last 50 years using the 1957 solar cell technology, but what the heck. It would be a nice challenge for someone with a really big dish.. Just thought I'd post, since I had not heard of this frequency and the fact that it is radiating.. You just have to have good ears. And with some of the really good sound-card DSP stuff these days, maybe it would show up on a waterfall. The exact frequency depends on temperature... But it was at 108.00 MHz last time it was heard. My dish is kaput right now, so I'm out... If you need to hear what the satellite sounds like, please visit my website www.users.zetnet.co.uk/clivew/ The satellite transmits on 145.826 MHz. set receiver to NBFM. --------- During the period 15 November to 19 December 2007 no signals have been received from the satellite. No reports of reception have been received. Eclipses have continued and are expected until mid January 2008. Although the maximum duration of the current eclipses is less than those earlier this year, it is doubtful whether the satellite will be heard for any sustained period. While in continuous sunlight during September and October the satellite was unable to support continuous operation. It is likely than the satellite will only be heard by chance, by stations listening for other satellites on 145.826 Mhz. The current status of the satellite, is that all the analogue telemetry channels, 0 to 59 are zero, ie they have failed. The status channels 60 to 67 are still working. The real time clock is showing a large accumulated error, although over short periods timekeeping is accurate to a few seconds per month. The day of the month has a bit stuck at 'one' so the day of the month may show an error of +40 days for some dates. The time display has switched into 12 hour mode. Unfortunately, there is no AM/PM indicator, since the time display format was designed for 24 hour mode. More data is required to determine exactly when the date changes. The spacecraft computer and active attitude control system have switched OFF, ie. the satellite' attitude is controlled only by the passive gravity boom gradient, and the satellite is free to spin at any speed. When telemetry was last received it showed that one of the solar arrays had failed, and there was a large unexplained current drain on the main 14 volt bus. After 23 years in orbit the battery has undergone around 100,000 partial charge/discharge cycles, and observations suggest that it cannot power the satellite during eclipses, or sometimes during periods of poor solar attitude. The watchdog timer now operates on a 20 day cycle. The ON/OFF times have tended to be very consistent. The average of many observations show this to be 20.7 days, ie. 10.3 days ON followed by 10.4 days OFF. However, poor solar attitude may result may result in a low 14 volt line supply, which may cause the beacon to switch OFF prematurely, and reset the watchdog timer cycle. When this occurs, the beacon is OFF for 20.7 days. The Beacon frequencies are - VHF 145.826 MHz. AFSK FM ASCII Telemetry UHF 435.025 MHz. OFF S-band 2401.5 MHz. OFF Listeners to OSCAR-11 may be interested in visiting my website. If you need to know what OSCAR-11 should sound like, there is a short audio clip for you to hear. There is an example of the latest telemetry received from the satellite. The website contains an archive of news & telemetry data. It also contains details about using a soundcard or hardware demodulators for data capture. There is software for capturing data, and decoding ASCII telemetry. Those using a Buxcomm adaptor

Greetings, I bought a Buxcomm adaptor for my FT60 to run some sound card packet. I really like the unit and it sure works great. The only thing I noticed is when you reboot or lose the packet engine, the unit "keys" the mic and transmits. It only stops transmitting when you restart the packet engine. Everything here is so far apart that altitude is needed to get out of our backyard, so to speak.
