First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 0730 - 1930 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking and before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. And don’t forget that the packet system is active. As always, if there is an EVA, a docking, or an undocking; the ARISS radios are turned off as part of the safety protocol. ARISS conducts 60-80 of these special amateur radio contacts each yearbetween students around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboardthe ISS. The MBRSC is a Dubai government organization working on the UAEspace program, which includes various space satellite projects, the EmiratesMars Mission, the Emirates Lunar Mission, and the UAE astronaut program. TheMBRSC actively works to promote space science and research in the region witheducational programs designed to promote a culture based on discovery andexploration in future generations at all education levels. MBRSC is hosting this ARISS contact for highschool students who will be asking questions in Arabic and/or English. This will be a direct contact via Amateur Radioallowing students to ask their questions of Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, amateurradio call sign KI5VTV. The downlink frequency for this contact is 145.800 MHzand may be heard by listeners that are within the ISS-footprint that alsoencompasses the relay ground station. The amateur radio ground station for this contactis at MBRSC, Dubai, UAE. Amateur radio operators using call sign A68MBR, willoperate the ground station to establish and maintain the ISS connection. My FD interfaces SatPC32 with a Yaesu G5500DC. I am using SAEBRTrackBox as the SatPC32 setting. SatPC32 is running on a W11 laptop. To interface with FD required installation of a CH340 driver for the com port to FD. HyperTerminal wasn’t necessary for FD installation. I didn’t have it and found that getting it and using it was more complicated than manually following the prompts from FD. Check into the http://www.igatemini.com/sat controller. It eliminates the need for SATPC32 and the GS-232 and works great with any browser. Much easier to work with and lower cost. If you are using and I come 9700 or a Icom satellite radio and they yaesu G 5500. You should look into the CSN SAT tracker you’ll illuminate the GS 232 interface. There’s no software to load no comport errors. If you have a yaesu rotator go with the GS-232. Its a bit pricey but I have and it works well. Hi again, I just ordered a Fox Delta controller which should get here in a couple weeks. Right now I'm studying configuration for use with Satpc32. In one place I'm seeing is use Yaesu GS-232 in Satpc32 for the Fox-Delta controller, in another place I'm seeing use SAEBRTrackBox in Satpc32 for the controller. Not sure which to choose. Any suggestions? I'd also like to get the list of LVB tracker controller commands for use in HyperTerm. Fox-Delta uses the same firmware, but I can't find the command list. Thanks KB7ADL

First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 0730 - 1930 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking and before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. And don’t forget that the packet system is active. As always, if there is an EVA, a docking, or an undocking; the ARISS radios are turned off as part of the safety protocol.
