First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 0730 - 1930 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking and before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. And don’t forget that the packet system is active. As always, if there is an EVA, a docking, or an undocking; the ARISS radios are turned off as part of the safety protocol. There are several ways small satellites can be deployed from the ISS: NRCSD (NanoRacks CubeSat Deployer), J-SSOD (JEM - Small Satellite Orbital Deployer), SSIKLOPS (Space Station Integrated Kinetic Launcher for Orbital Payload Systems), Bishop, and manually during a spacewalk (EVA). When using NRCSD, one or two pods, containing up to three Cubesats each, are placed on the deployment mechanism in the airlock of the JEM (Japanese Experiments Module, KIBO). The Japanese manipulator arm on the outside of the JEM, retrieves the deployment mechanism from the airlock and points the pods towards the aft of the ISS, at about 30 degrees below the horizon. At the required deployment time, the door of a pod is opened and the Cubesats are pushed out of the pod by a spring. Actually 11 deployments from the ISS are planned in the coming weeks, involving up to 29 satellites (details to be announced). About the TLE sets, from my experience, if you keep the TLE set of the ISS the moment of the deployment it can be useful from a 3-4 days to 1-3 weeks depending on several factors like the size of the cubesat or the height of ISS at the deployment time. By useful I mean that you will be able to spot the signal of the satellite in a waterfall but not exactly in the expected frequency, especially when the TLE set is too old. ISS Launching Method of NanoRacks and CubeSat TLEs

I recently became interested in learning about how the ISS launches the cubesats that arrive on the NanoRacks. Where do they launch the cubesats from on the ISS? Also, when a cubesat leaves the ISS, and it likely has no propulsion to prevent orbital decay, how long are the ISS TLEs relevant to the CubeSats position? Days weeks? -- 73, ko4aqf(a)gmail.com

First off the crew is very busy on the ISS and they simply may not have the time to just pick up the microphone and talk. Also, one needs to be aware of their normal daily schedule. I have listed below the constraints that we at ARISS have to follow in order to schedule the school contacts. Hopefully this will help you better schedule your opportunities. Typical daily schedule Wakeup to Workday start= 1.5 hours Workday start to Workday end=12 hours Workday end to Sleep= 2 hours Sleep to wakeup= 8.5 hours The crew's usual waking period is 0730 - 1930 UTC. The most common times to find a crew member making casual periods are about one hour after waking and before sleeping, when they have personal time. They're usually free most of the weekend, as well. SSTV events are not that often. So please check out https://www.ariss.org/ for the latest information or watch for the ARISS announcements. And don’t forget that the packet system is active. As always, if there is an EVA, a docking, or an undocking; the ARISS radios are turned off as part of the safety protocol. EO88’s re-entry competition from AMSAT-UK

After 6 years in space EO-88 / Nayif-1 is heading towards re-entry. To mark the event of it's demise, AMSAT-UK is offering two awards. These will be individual framed certificates. Firstly, to the station who submits the last telemetry to the FUNcube Data Warehouse and also to who “guesses” or calculates the re-entry time and date most accurately. Submissions for this award must be made to EO88(a)amsat-uk.org before midnight (UTC) on July 4th 2023. So time is short to get your entries in. This spacecraft, with it's mode U/V linear transponder, was launched in February 2017 into a 496x507 km polar orbit. Currently the orbit parameters show a height of around 320 km with the drag at 0.00319. It is now well below the ISS and much lower than at launch. It is not possible to accurately predict the likely deorbit date but it seems that it will certainly be before the end of this year. As the spacecraft continues to perform 100% nominally this is a great shame. Presently it is switching autonomously from high power telemetry when in daylight and with lower power telemetry and the transponder active when in darkness. The solar panels, battery and power system also continue to be reporting nominal numbers, essentially unchanged since the day of launch.It will therefore be a really sad moment when re-entry occurs but in the meantime everyone is encouraged to use the spacecraft whilst it remains available.https://funcube.org.uk/Good luckAMSAT-UK

Hi All, I see a report on AMSAT status page, regarding TEVEL-8 sat. Please be aware that TEVEL-1,8 can not be active due to technical problems. We are still trying to resolve the problem of TEVEL-8. However, both sats are transmitting telemetry beacons every 20 seconds. 73, David 4X1DG

Greencube digipeater and linux

Hello all, I am trying to setup Greencube Digipeater GUI that is provided by S5labs under Debian Linux but unfortunately I have some issues. The first issue is that gnuradio script is for very old gnuradio 3.7 and the second issue is that DigipeaterGUI.exe throw's an unhandled exception that can not find config.ini.
